Actually what opinion pieces editorial of a paper choose to publish does reflect on the paper.

Also this is the dunk tank and we're dunking on the opinions.

One of my good friends has a disabling birth defect and is still a very talented painter

I mean, I dont agree with NaNoWriMo citing ableism as a reason to allow AI but.

Doesnt this point have the same energy as "Half Cordinated is good at Dark Souls so therefor video games don't need accessibility features?"

If by classic you mean 2d I'd say VI or IV are the best.

IX is my favortite overall and is old af by now lmao but not pixelart.

I mean you said general personality. Genocide supporters can be gregarious! I'd compare him to a more charming villain than either of them. Someone evil underneath but charming on the surface. Like books!Littlefinger or something. (show ruined this by making him too obviously evil).

Tim Walz is actually charming on a purely personality level I wouldn't compare him to Craster on that basis lol.

Chaya Raichik makes me so viscerally angry. I probably shouldnt let her because its what she wants. But I just fucking hate her. Probably more than any other chud who's not in an actual position of political power (I mean its arguable she does have political power since she's influencing policy lol).

Nah you dont talk to casual libs enough. They read about a genocide of Uighers and believe it and thats it. Its an incredibly effective psyop. To believe noone actually believes its actually real is silly. Not that long ago i posted something from an anticolonial account posting awareness of all the ongoing genocides on the planet (you can find it in my post history). It wasnt one of the main ones, bit deep in the replies it did mention Xinjiang and the invasion of Ukraine as ongoing genocides too. Well meaning people sincerely believe it because its a psyop that targets well meaning people.

I saw a comrade calling this whole thing bad on twitter and one of his replies called Chuck his "fellown communist" lol

I literally didnt even realize that when I wrote it plus like, the actual information is right there in the screenshot so the fact that people took it as as Maduro calling him gay came as a complete shock to me because I only thought of the scientific term.

The article recomends skipping quiet a few good episodes btw.

In all seriousness I feel like the common answers I saw of Diogenes (because that was like, his entire shtick) or Socrates (because they killed him for being annoying) are probably better answers but saying its Trotsky on a leftist forum is way funnier.

This story would be megathread material if not for the fact that I could turn it into a discussion topic lol <3 So share your stories if you have any.

Anyway today I found out that on the 29th season of The Amazing Race (special interest: competitive reality TV) which I haven't seen before because it was after the time I paid attention to that show, had a roadblock challenge where one of the two racers from each of the remaining four pairs had to play a game of Street Fighter 5 against a pro until they won. (Special interest: Street fighter's competitive scene and fighting games in general)

Few interesting things about this.

  • The leg took place in South Korea, which is interesting because South Korea's fighting game community is MUCH more focused on Tekken. Most top Tekken players are South Korean. Its Japan's fgc thats more Street Fighter focused, with a lot of top players being Japanese. Like there are very good Japanese Tekken pros and very good South Korean Street Fighter pros, but if you really wanted to like, represent South Korea's pro gaming culture which would supposedly be the idea, it should be Tekken. But obviously they did Street Fighter V because Capcom sponsored them lol.
  • The two noteable pros were called Poongko and Infiltration. Both pretty over the top personalities. Poongko is known for being sponsored by reddit's (incredibly bigoted and incredibly horny) /r/Kappa community at one point, and for a lot of silly antics. He's actually pretty likeable. Infiltration has always been really funny but uh... he's banned from Capcom sponsored events indefinitely because of a domestic violence case and a few N word drops on stream and a think a couple other problematic instances. So its kinda embarrassing now that he was the representative. He did admittedly have a very fun personality and made funny jokes in interviews and stuff. (Also was known for randomly pulling out unexpected low to mid tiers which is always a crowd favorite).
  • The roadblock was a terrible idea lmao. Expecting people with no experience to beat professionals, even in a somewhat unstable game like SF5, was absurd. They ended up having to repetedly have the pros adopt random handicaps until the racers could win. AT least thats how it was explained to me, I havent watched this yet (though I Really want to check it out so I can see how it played out).

Interesting stuff for me!

Games that I put in this category: The first spyro game (not sure about the later ones, havent played) and A Link Between Worlds are both very fun and rewarding to complete and never feel like a chore to do so.

One game that is very much NOT in this category, as is often said, is DK64 lol. But everyone says that. I've also heard people say Super Mario Oddessy is fun to beat but not fun to complete, same with BOTW because of the Koroks. People usually say this about SM Sunshine as well but I dont really mind it in this game.

Sidenote complain about the world: Sandbox games combined with my autistic obsessive compulsive need for completionism lead to me playing them with very frusterating habits lmao. No Man's Sky is the worst for me. I LOVE that game but god the respawning ROCKS ruin the experiance kind of. If the rocks stayed gone, I could use them to gradually explore the worlds I'm on in a completiony way. (Even knowing that like even a single planet is kind of impossible to fully explore let alone the entire fucking universe lol). But I cant!!!!!!

Sorry I need to shove that rant into everything. Completionist mindset also limits me with games like Terraria, Minecraft, and Starbound as well but not as badly because I at least can keep track of exploration in those (Or just dig deep pits in minecraft as I enjoy doing to waste time while I watch streams lol).

I also get myself caught in absurd goals that NOONE expects you to do and the game doesnt keep track of (no achievemnt for it or anything) sometimes like doing all coin runs in Mario 64 or marrying, seeing the 14 star event, and then divorcing every spouse in Stardew Valley lol. (I acutally havent started the second thing but it is sort of in my head as a goal).

This turned into a general rant about how my completionism effects me lmao but anyway thoughts.

Ive been cut off by people so many times over the past few years. I just constantly exaust people. And frankly my behaviors that people point out as the problem are largely not things I think I can improve.

First of all, my Rejection Sensative Dysphoria and how seriously it effects me makes me incredibly inherently toxic because now that I know about it I cant NOT bring it up with people, but people feel inherently pressured and like they are having their consent violated by that existing? I mean I just see it as an accommodation thing and I agree that people have a right to boundaries but I think friendship should be compromise. Idk maybe I am using RSD as a method of manipulating people but I dont think so. People act like me even bringing it up is an abusive move which feels like its inherently stigmatizing an issue that seriously effects me. And no I have not yet found a method of dealing with it internally through therapy or whatever. I just dont think I can do this.

Also like, when people try to distance themselves from me or leave me I just go into fight mode and try to squeeze tighter until I just drive them away worse lol. And I'm sorry but once again I... dont think I can break that habit lmao. Its too automatic. In the moment I cant think of anything else I cant think about how this isnt helping. Its particularly bad if I think the boundary doesnt make logical sense or isnt reasonable based on what has happened. It is VERY difficult for me to accept that i just need to respect boundaries even if they dont make sense to me.

Anyway ive had two people cut me off in the past three days. Both VERYT emotionally unstable people so I shouldnt take it personally, but like I said, RSD. One took an argument about Survivor personally for some reason, blocked me, kicked me from their discord server, left the two other discord servers we shared, and deleted our entire message history lmao. The other had ghosted for like five months and then just randomly came back to tell me they didnt want me in their life anymore, and this is like the fourth time theyve cut me off lmao. This last time they PROMISED I wouldnt have to worry about getting attatched again, it was like the entire point of my friend group even letting them back into our circle, but then they cut me off again anyway! And they cited being "afraid to confront me" or whatever which touches on what Im talking about above. But they also said they only came back because they "felt guilty" but that is fucking bullshit based on the way they came back. They have flipped on a dime between consering me a father figure and considering me a manipulator so many times now lmao. Even if I decide human relationships are for me Im definitly never letting this person back in.

I basically think im too inhernetly toxic to have relationships in a way that doesnt hurt people or fuck with my friends autonomy and boundaries. So I think for the good of everyone I should just take myself out of the equation. Not in THAT way yaknow just... delete my accounts and cut everyone off and go hermit mode. Human relationships are frankly too much at this point.

OK so reverse order timeline of events like this that I'm aware of

  • Laura Bailey being harassed for something a character she voiced in The Last of Us Part 2 did
  • Anna Gunn being harassed because people misguidedly and misogynistically didn't like Skyler White (taking this back to 2008)
  • Ahmed Best and the kid who played young Anakin being harassed by Star Wars fans after the Phantom Menace came out, taking us back to 1999. You could argue that these two weren't about the character's actions but rather the quality of the performances/product so its a bit difference but its still the same overall problem.
  • I just happened to get curious about what TV Tropes had to say about All in the Family because my roomate was watching it. By weird coincidence, because I had commented about the first three when this news was posted in a discord server already, I learned it goes back to the 70s because an actor who appears in one episode and does something incredibly evil got hate mail over it. So yeah, this shit has been going on forever

But like. WHAT the fuck is going on with that. What is going on in brains that can't separate actor from character? Is it just needing an outlet.

I think there's some discussion to be had about this shit getting worse because of increased atomization, COVID, social media giving people easy access to celebrities, and a more media obsessed population in general. But it apparently goes all the way back to All in the Family so what is going on?

And I don't think that its a minor problem either! Ahmed Best and the small child that played Anakin have shared some pretty harrowing stuff. And like, this was a reality show but I've discussed before how upset the story of Hana Kimura is to me as a fan (if you look her up, suicide cw).

My best guess is that people with very little emotional intelligence have emotions over the media they consume and need to let it out on someone as an outlet? Combined with just, poor education leading to poor media literacy?

But yeah this has always confused me lmao. I truly wish to understand the confusing actions of humans.
