At its Mexican premiere on Jan. 15, the French filmmaker responded to the criticism. “The drama of the missing is something that shocks me deeply,” Audiard said. “It’s a tragedy that’s largely invisible outside of Mexico, and my goal was to generate dialogue, not offense.”

I believe that this guy really does believe what he's saying here, but he also said in another interview that he didn't study Mexico or Mexican culture before making the movie because he already knew everything he needed to know and that's just such a typical attitude for a guy like that to have. For starters, the movie's Spanish is apparently really terrible and the accents are all over the place and none of them sound like Mexican accents.

Yes it's terrible in the funniest way. Most of the rest of this musical's soundtrack is terrible in the normal way.

I'm imagining Marx writing a dissertation on the water economy in Caves of Qud

Cowards couldn't even let Magneto actually destroy that Navy squadron.

Need to have a Magneto movie, I'm thinking the plot is that he wants to stop the government from doing fashy shit, gets stopped by the X Men because Professor X wants to vote the fash out of office, the fashy shit happens exactly like the fashy government guys said it would, Magneto gets busted out of plastic jail by radicalized former X Men, saves the world by killing a bunch of fashy government dudes. Film ends with him standing by Prof Xs grave, who was killed by the FBI, and teasing a sequel where he will fully overthrow the government. It'd be the best X Men film since Logan.

ran into a person on lemm.ee who is doubling down on the idea that "authoritarianism" is only when governments do it and that corporations and private citizens cannot be authoritarian. agony-soviet

The moment that sticks out in my head was, I think JD Vance, saying "we need the federal government to take over California because they just can't run their own state anymore" or something to that effect.

And it's like, this shit is all they would do. Flood already-flooded farmland and accomplish nothing. California's water management has problems but it's not a lack of knowledge about how to manage it, it's the fact that it's all privately owned and operated for the profit of the owners rather than the benefit of everyone.

...

Also, calling it now, but if there's a fire in that part of California before the reservoirs refill they will totally blame Californians for it despite the draining being their own awful idea.

True fact I have a pair of MDR-7506s that I use for all headphone-related purposes. No bluetooth ear bud can hope to compete.

You should DEFINITELY seek out the communism side quest. I think it appears in your journal as something like "make contact with your fellow communists"? There are a few people who will point you towards the event I'm talking about that are missable if you rush through the investigation.

I do it whenever I'm playing something like Factorio, but not if I'm playing something for the first time (like I currently am FF7 Rebirth) and actually want to hear and focus on the experience.

Right now I'm watching old YouTube stuff I like, yesterday it was Red vs Blue but I stopped around halfway through season 7 cuz it was awful and now I'm once again rewatching all of HBomberguy's videos.
