One of my oldest friends is a borderline anarcho syndicalist, but is reluctant to even consider a total rejection of capitalism because the alternative is something his entire world has convinced him is an equivalent immoral totalitarianism that is just another set of rich wankers enslaving people.

Anyway. I recently let him know that after Gaza, I consider the entire US state to be a bunch of psychopathic anti-humans, and that I think we have always been the bad guys, and the Soviets had the right idea, and their collapse was an epic tragedy for humanity.

He definitely was not receptive.

Now I think I have been dropping counter propaganda into our Signal chat too frequently, and I got some pushback from him after the election. Not sure what to make of it. Kinda worried I might have strained our friendship. He has firmly stated he is not interested in my Commie takes at all.

Gonna try to back off and chill out. But now I am kinda paranoid. Like, the US really has tried to ruin the lives of anyone who tries to have anything to do with Communism. What if the next four years starts some kinda new Red Scare? There's no way my friend will risk getting caught up in that, just to humor my ideological journey.

We both have kids to worry about. Both of us got raised in right winger families. His traditional US nationalists. Mine Evangelicals.

It's gonna be tough if I don't get to talk to one of my best friends about materialism and anti-imperialism.

Hey everyone, I've been a DACA recipient since the program started in the Obama years and have held it since, but I'm anticipating it will be terminated under Trump. I'm going to stop the funding to my work 401k and placing all expendable funds in my HYSA (high yields savings account) for the time being. If it ends up being the case I have to go back to my native country I don't anticipate finding work will be too difficult given that I'm bilingual and have specialized certifications for my career and I can stay with my grandparents. (presumably for as long as I need but I will be reaching out to them) I think there's a very very low likelihood we're going to be allowed to continue with the program or given a pathway to accessing a green card/citizenship, so I'm planning for the worst here. Is anyone else in a similar boat? Have any backup plans? Any thoughts you'd like to share? Let's discuss.

And most importantly, who's gonna be our Hoxha?

sorry start speculating so early, but I'm really curious

like, who the hell will Republicans run next? Their Trump card is used up (fuck you I won't apologize for that). I don't really see anyone else with his broad appeal to take the mantel. Like, maybe some figure in this upcoming administration emerges, but... I don't really see how. Seems like they're stuck running just another party apparatchik.

...

The liberals in the walls whisper, they say "Trump is gonna install himself as lifelong dictator! Vance will inherit the throne! It's the end of US democracy!!!"

i remember when my grandpa said the dems were gonna crown Obama as king.

And in that case... Dems might actually feel like they have to do a real campaign, rather than just bang the "orange fascist" gong a bunch more.

Saw this in hexbear memes yesterday. To me it reads as a satire of the holier than thou attitudes I see around here. But it also had no downvotes and nobody was challenging it, so I wonder if it reads differently to you, and how if so.

I tried asking the OP but I was told not to expect discussion in the memes community

So I have an interview coming up sometime in the next 2 weeks and I have to do a few coding and SQL problems as part of it. I wanna start practicing now because I've gotten a bit rusty on algs and such. Does anyone have any suggestions on like array sorts and such to work on or like code golf sites to use? I have Leetcode pulled up and will be working a bit through that today but I just wanna get in as much practice as I can leading up to the interview. I donno when the interview will be but I just heard through the grapevine that there will be one.

I've been working on my own webdev stuff but the most I've had to touch JavaScript for is basically conditionals and loops, so I feel like I've fallen down on the other stuff a bit.

TIA

Like yeah, we all know that communism defeated fascism in WWII, but that was only after a lot of war & genocide had already transpired.

I'm interested in the counterfactual, in which it never got to that point because the Nazis and Italian fascists were prevented from ever acquiring power to begin with. What would that have looked like? What would have been needed for that to happen?

If anyone has read this, and could provide a Marxist/materialist perspective, or a link to a known one, I would greatly appreciate it.

Edit: Wow! I am glad I asked before wasting any time at all reading any part of this. Thank you.

I am asking, because I was recommended to read Dale Carnegie's 1936 book How to Win Friends and Influence People, by my current boss, and I had read that when I was 19 at the recommendation of my Evangelical father. I mostly disliked it then, finding it trite and vague. So, I was trying to find an alternative, and tried to look up an alternative that I could read instead. I saw that this 48 Laws book was highly read by people incarcerated in US prisons, and the book had been banned by many prisons. I was hoping it had some sort of subversive anti-authoritarian messaging that could fly under my boss's radar.

My hot take has been for a while that the term "psychological horror" as people use it doesn't actually mean anything and people just use it to say "Horror I like/Horror I think is well done". If you look on Steam, pretty much every horror title also has the "psychological horror" tag so while a clear definition might exist somewhere, the term is muddied to no end.

So I wanna ask what you think the term includes and what it doesn't, maybe we can crowdsource it.

Out of this list of horror or horror-adjacent games/franchises/movies, which would you classify as "Psychological horror" and why? And just as importantly, which would you say aren't psychological horror? If you can't come up with good reasons, answering purely based on vibes is also valid. You don't have to categorize all of them, only those you have an opinion about.

Games:

  • Ao Oni
  • Doki Doki Literature Club
  • Outlast
  • Lisa
  • Omori
  • Resident Evil
  • Five Nights At Freddy's
  • Outer Wilds
  • Pathologic
  • BioShock
  • The Coffin of Andy and Leyley
  • Limbo
  • Sally Face
  • SOMA
  • The Binding of Isaac
  • Needy Streamer Overload
  • Ib
  • Silent Hill

Movies:

  • Saw
  • The Cabin in the Woods
  • It Follows
  • Martyrs
  • Coraline
  • Get Out
  • Midsommar
  • Blair Witch Project
  • All Quiet On The Western Front
  • It
  • Silence of the Lambs
  • A Quiet Place
  • The Shining

The list is very broad on purpose. If you have anything else you would confidently call psychological horror, feel free to mention it.

would you be wrong for "finding it rude" simply because your friend didn't?

is it acceptable for them to justify themselves just going "lol boring" if they meant it for the topic and not you? like, should you magically no longer feel hurt anymore?

are you in the wrong for saying how just saying "lol boring" hurts you and requesting for them to say it more differently? that you're just being defensive?

all while they claim how you're "blaming them for everything", want them to change themselves to please you, to force themselves to "enjoy what you're talking about", to not be able to dislike topics when 1. you didn't say any of this, 2. you just wanted them to be more nice/compassionate and considerate of your feelings.

like, i'm sure we can all agree that there are better ways to say that what the person is talking about doesn't really interest you all that much but they can keep going if they want. or hell, just not mentioning at all and just listening to them.

i feel like literally any of this would be better instead of just going "lol boring" and get all defensive about it and accuse you of being defensive all you did was expressing hurt and wanting them to say it differently.

As in, what's something you loved as a kid, found cringe as you get older, then gained a new appreciation for as an adult? Here are some of mine:

  • Pokemon. I expect this will be a common one. It's got cute creature designs and fun tactical battling, and since I've outgrown my shame at liking cute things, I'll happily keep coming back to it.
  • Yu-Gi-Oh. I still don't much care for the CCG (I'm opposed on principle to any game where your ability to win largely depends on how much money you're willing to sink into it), but the anime bursts with dorky charm and the video games are fun. A setting where reincarnated ancient sorcerers and billionaires are stone-dead serious about a children's card game is also a nice break from the modern plague of "well that just happened" Marvel soy banter.

First of all, I'd like to thank all the PATRIOTS here on reddit for your support during this truly great and historical election. I couldn't have done it without you. Well, I could have, actually. I would have done great. Might have even gotten more votes!

With your help we managed to kick the crooked Democrats out of the White House. PATRIOTS ARE IN CONTROL! We're going to do some great things together folks. And we're going to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!

So to all the Patriots, Haters and Losers out there, Ask Me Anything! I'll be here all night folks! I'm Donald Trump!

Ok, so I used to listen to this Canadian hip hop artist years ago and I cannot for the life of me remember his name. Despite all of the (very specific) details I have about him I can't find the fucker.

If any of you know who I am talking about, please help me find this artist. These are all the details that I know:

  • Canadian (I think from Ontario)

  • Black

  • Older

  • Has a song called "Fuck a liberal" and "Amerikkka"

  • Has other songs calling out the genocide carried out by Canada on the first nations people

  • Used audio samples of former Prime Minister Stepher Harper in at least one of his songs

  • Had music on streaming apps like Apple music

I'm hoping at least one of you also used to listen to him and can hook me up inshallah

As an Autistic Man, it is really irritating that, people, as though they are a Neurotypical person that expects me to easily "get" unspoken social rules, and easily understand things without needing background information, it seems as though I am for some reason expected to not only automatically understand what people talk about when they say those phrases, but also even if I do want to look them up, I am scared of doing it wrong, because growing up, my mom forbade me from socially interacting with people, which caused me to become socially awkward.... which made her not want me to talk to people for "Fear of embarrassing her", leading to a vicious cycle that caused me to never have any friends until last year.

So thus, even to this day, I am completely unfamiliar with what it means to Support a Local Community, to Go and Organize, to Read Theory.... unless those are all phrases that were made so memetically popular, that people forgot about their original meaning, and people repeat them in order to make themselves LOOK intelligent rather than actually say anything intelligent.

The end result? I have no clue whatsoever how to socialize with people, or to attend public events, how to know when they are happening, how to find them, I don't know what the first steps are with socializing.... all thanks to my mother, who failed to teach me social skills, and failed to teach me the confidence in helping myself.

So how do I accomplish the commonly thrown around phrases I just mentioned?

I'm seriously thinking about skipping health insurance another year to help with saving. Do you think that will be more expensive in the long run? I don't have any major health problems, but I also haven't visited a general practitioner in like a decade so there could be something hiding. Every decision is such a huge gamble in this fucking country. I hate it here but my job and degree aren't in demand internationally, and I'm not willing to marry an internet stranger overseas (I'm already taken anyways) so if I can't leave the country I can at least move to a state that chuds aren't swarming to with each passing year.

(This isn't because Harris lost, I'm not a fucking lib. It's because the abortion amendment failed despite 57% approval. I'm just an object here. I've actually been planning it out for a couple of years now, but this was the final straw.)

As a resident of a vassal state I'm locked in a bubble of naïve liberal media coverage treating Democrats as the left. I realised that despite how evident it is for everyone here that the Dems have become increasingly rightwing with Biden and Harris, I've never found a source that bothered demonstrating it by compiling evidence.

Of course search engines are being completely useless at this, just shoveling endless trash from British and US corporate media
