The animals themselves, not the people using it. A cow is the name for female cattle, male chicks get killed early, and the horseback empires were run mainly from atop of mares.

People keep mentioning it but i don't know what it is

For me, it's social dancing, specifically West Coast Swing. Because while there is just social dancing, and some who only do it, there's a bit of a culture of competition, and it has its own governing body for determining where you place in competitions, and when it does sound like a cult when described.

I don't watch cable news and I don't pay attention to Jeff Teidrich or whoever so I don't know where this bullshit is coming from. At least one person responding is nominally anti-genocide, so I don't think that's the reason. Another came back with something about the funding bill for FEMA as if it's a gotcha.

What's their logic?

Hello all.

I won a bursary to write and produce a very small budget 5-10 minute film. I pitched an idea to them, but I've realised that I'm not sure how viable the scope of my idea was - it was overambitious from me.

The people who gave me the bursary are fine with me doing anything sort of relevant to my pitch, but that would be overcomplicating things to get all of you in on the details.

I was so excited to do it, but now I'm slightly anxious about what I'm going to do.

Anyone got some good short-short films to share? I'm open to anything, but the vibe is 'serious/activist' I suppose. I do like comedy though. I'm much more comfortable writing comedy, really. Or something arthousey.

Half the comments on that site are from new accounts. Day old accounts that seem like admin alts. What happened to that place?

TLDR: How do you treat 'pleasant' reactionaries?

Long story short my cousin was visiting, but couldn't make it. My family asked if I could show his friends around regardless, and of course I was happy to oblige.

I knew they were going to be sort of rich frat-bro poli-sci stereotypes from the outset, maybe a little bit ghoulish, but nevertheless I find Americans very entertaining in their ways and I'm a nice fella so I took them to some bars and some comedy.

Conversation didn't exactly flooowwwww, but what can you expect meeting someone for the first time? I can't tell if they had no opinions about anything or were embarrassed about the opinions they did have. And then I found out that they were descendants of CIA/NYPD.

I'm now going to be a joyless communist:

I just knew they were bubbling with totally oblivious reactionary ideology, but outwardly they were very pleasant and enthusiastic. We never did broach a topic that was too controversial. About the election, all they had to say was a quick sentence of 'well, most people think both sides are bad... It's a controversial topic because we're unfortunately so divided...' - just absolute platitude spoken very very seriously.

We also talked about the concussion crisis in contact sport, and again, they were just like 'yeaahhh, seems inevitable really, not a lot you can do... anyway...'

Never have I met people so un-opinionated.

When the comedy acts came on, they had a wail of a time. One comedian was a stereotypically attractive woman, and as she came on stage, while everyone applauded her onto stage, these two 25 year olds were giggling like schoolboys, prodding each other, and shouting "lets fucking go!! Lets go bro!!!". At other points in the set one of them especially would give a 'lets gooooo' to a punchline.

Very funny to watch. Americans are such a different breed. Still, they were just having a good time on holiday, and 2 of the sets were very gay and autistic, and they liked those too. And they bought me a couple of drinks as thanks for taking them. I would be lying if I said they weren't nice and friendly guys. I would place them as Democrats or perhaps libertarian.

Anyway, what do you tend to do in scenarios where you know someone would find you a disgusting godless communist if they had any idea?

What I did was just to be normal, and genial. But it is an odd position to be in. Can someone truly be considered 'nice' and 'pleasant' when they harbour staunch ideology that is inherently racist and so on? How do you reconcile that? Aren't like 90% of people like that (though some to more of an extent than others).

For whatever reason my brain has decided to think about this.

VLC will record the Desktop and Space Rangers but not Transformers: Devastation Though the game screen it captures for is a different size than what is captured with the Desktop while either game is running. Seeing what happens when Transformers runs results in a white screen being recorded while the game window is in focus.

My ancient Radeon graphics card and Windows 7 operating system (don't at me Linux folks, I know I know) has some screen recording stuff build into it. Will record the Desktop just fine, records only a black screen while the game is running and its window is focused for one game but records the other game just fine and at an appropriate size.

For curiosity's sake what would I be looking for as reasons or solutions to this?

Edit:

Running everything as Administrator seems to help in OBS. Who knew? monke-beepboop

OBS seems to play nice with Transformers: Devastation now, lets me draw the bounding box in the Game Source instead of trying to use the Display source.

Still haven't figured out why OBS is being wonky with Space Rangers not recording in "Game Source" but did get a lead on why the size is wonky in the recording of "Display Source". The max resolution for the CD version (the one I've got) is 1024x768 and my monitor is 1920x1080. (Unsure why there's a difference between what I see playing the game and what the software is recording.) And the only resolution patch I've found doesn't work on the CD version... :whomp-whomp:

Naturalist remedies are popular in China. So I figure fungus(LSD and shrooms) and weed could be among the first psychedelics that will be legally distributed. I have no idea how far in the future.

I don't know anything about cellphones. I just ordered a Pixel 7 off Swappa so I'll get it next week. At the last minute I decided not to get an iPhone because I wanted the simplest, smoothest emulation possible. I'm also getting a new Windows 11 PC.

Long story short - I hate cellphones.

  • What are good emulators?

  • What are bad emulators I should avoid? They have spyware, bloatware, etc.

  • What are good resources to learn about emulators? I'm starting from zero.

  • What questions am I forgetting to ask? It's hard to know which end is up because I don't have any of the hardware now.

Once I have my phone and new PC - my first goal is to order food off Instacart via my PC. I've never used Instacart directly before. Instead I've used Smith's "powered by Instacart" via my PC with no cellphone stuff at all. In fact - my phone listed with them was disconnected many years ago and I've left "updates" unchecked. Smith's never nagged me to update my phone number so I never updated it.

20 or 30 years ago, many cities had a group of nerds who would get together monthly / quarterly / annually to put on a live action RHPS and/or watch the film. They would dress up in themed/fetishy costumes to go. There was a sort of ritualised audience participation portion where the audience yelled certain things at certain times in the plot, IIRC threw popcorn, and other stuff. I don't think I ever actually attended in one of these but I knew various people who were in the subculture. my view of it was the crowd was largely queer/bi/pan/poly/straight/genderbender white people.

  • is anybody still doing this? (maybe it's still as active as ever and I've just changed who I know?)

  • did the internet kill it and if so, how?

  • gen z: are you familiar with this phenomena?

bonus question: what is the current analysis of RHPS, particularly, but not limited to, the concept of gender as depicted?

I think any race conspiracy gives power to Nazis and immediately puts Jewish people at more danger. Making both US news and Zionism antisemitic. That's all I've put together.

I really should've asked this in a post long ago, I just feel embarrassed about not knowing.

Every so often I can make it happen, but most times I'm struggling regardless of how much prep time I give myself. Feel like it might be related to ADHD? Either way, I'm so bad at it kril-drained

For most communities, especially some of the smaller ones, have posts that are only as recent as 2 months ago at best. I noticed that there is frequent activity on The big communities such as "chapotraphouse", "chat" and "news"... but that same frequency of activity isn't replicated on most of the other communities.

For communities like "movies and tv shows", it feels like visiting a ghost town.

Is activity for people here mostly off this site and elsewhere? Did I not get an invitation or something? It feels like, with regards to activities such as playing games or watching a movie, I see no signs of people on this site doing anything.

So why are most communities lacking in activity?

I have been semi-aware of the civil war and the attendant humanitarian crisis in Yemen for the last eight years or so, and I recall it being particularly bad in 2017 and 2018. However, I've never really understood what the actual contours of the conflict are. I don't know what the two opposing sides or ideologies are; in fact, I don't even know if there are just two. (I do know that the Houthis are one of the involved groups, but even there I don't really know what they're about, e.g. their vision and objectives; and the same goes for whomever they're fighting against.) I recall that a few years ago there was a lot of left discourse about how the (USA-supported) Saudi intervention in Yemen was bad, and I guess I'm willing to take other leftists' word on that, but I'd still like to understand why that intervention was bad.

I'm asking about this because I came across this post recently on Substack, in which the writer implies that the Saudi intervention in Yemen was done for good reasons and gets unfairly criticized. Now, that person is an odious Israeli racist, so I don't trust that their account of the situation in Yemen is particularly fair, but I do feel a bit stumped; I don't know much about Yemen, this guy seems to know more than I do, and I don't know what the counterargument is.

Is there a good article/explainer/blog that I could read about this?

I'm researching social housing policies under socialism and boy is it a nightmare to find something about Cuba that isn't by a shady US think tank, or an AirBnB post. Anyone knows more objective or leftist sources?
