The song brace and liz were singing on that recent ep was real???

[–] Carl@hexbear.net 20 points 4 hours ago

Yes it's terrible in the funniest way. Most of the rest of this musical's soundtrack is terrible in the normal way.

This is, without exaggeration, the best scene in the movie.

[–] Dessa@hexbear.net 13 points 4 hours ago

OMG, I saw this clip somewhere else and thought for sure it was parodizing something

What were they expecting? A brief glance at the description already gives away the type of slop you’re going to get.

At its Mexican premiere on Jan. 15, the French filmmaker responded to the criticism. “The drama of the missing is something that shocks me deeply,” Audiard said. “It’s a tragedy that’s largely invisible outside of Mexico, and my goal was to generate dialogue, not offense.”

I believe that this guy really does believe what he's saying here, but he also said in another interview that he didn't study Mexico or Mexican culture before making the movie because he already knew everything he needed to know and that's just such a typical attitude for a guy like that to have. For starters, the movie's Spanish is apparently really terrible and the accents are all over the place and none of them sound like Mexican accents.

Part of me wants to think this movie was a psyop done by closet reactionaries to make a movie to stoke anti-trans hatred.

The funny thing is that the reaction I've seen from Mexican people and latinx people has been relatively free of transphobia, much less than what I expected, because I still have the perception the average latinx person feels relatively free to be transphobic.

Meanwhile, Mexican trans women did a parody film using only French stereotypes so "they know what it's like" and it's fucking kino absolute-cinema. Most people support it and like it, regardless of their position on trans rights. .

all it did is stroke anti-france-cool hatred

[–] Dessa@hexbear.net 15 points 4 hours ago

If it was, they failed, because trans people and transphobes stand united in our hatred of this

[–] Gorillatactics@hexbear.net 10 points 4 hours ago

The Selena Gomez Valerian song was directed by a french director? Are we sure its not a zeulh revival?

[–] Redcuban1959@hexbear.net 12 points 4 hours ago

The Director is a French pos. And it seems like Karla Sofía Gascón posted a lot of racist (against Latinos, Africans, African-Americans and Asians), islamophobic stuff on Twitter.

New type of guy discovered. Weird conservative guy who comments in English on an English language website dedicated to Mexican news. Is this like an expat or an grown up no sabo kid? More research needs to be done.

Profeco had to get involved and forced cinepolis to give people refunds because they used the word "guarantee" in their movie poster

[–] TraschcanOfIdeology@hexbear.net 12 points 4 hours ago

Anything that makes cinepolis take money out of its pockets is a good thing in my opinion. If it's about that awful film, even better.
