HELLO!!! Nice to see you! And congratulations on tying the knot - if Mr Omoikiri can support you through a PhD he's probably passed most of the tests I'm sure.

I am completely in love with Mabel's anime eyes and eye-dabs

Sat a bit 'funny' on the couch yesterday and now suffering from a mildly sore back.

Damn you old age. Damn. You.

Stay active and stretchy. Go join a pilates / yoga club.

Seriously, It's been nuts watching friends / in laws / hubs grumping about farting wrong and throwing their backs out, meanwhile i actually broke my back a few years back and am older and don't have issues.

(I also did gymnastics for years. Can't do a full floor routine no mo but can still very easily roundoff / cartwheel/back arch as i barrel to my fatarsed 50's)

Some of my friends who are often hours late to catchups are trying to get me to meet them on the far side of town for a late dinner. I've just been stood up so many times in the past that I really don't have the energy for that nonsense. I like them, but they're not reliable for catchups, so I'm not busting my balls for a catchup.

I'd like to introduce my newest friend, who moved in just outside my kichen window. Today is the first day she has added a cross to her web.

Edit: damn that was good. Contained cheddar, bocconcini, onion and sauerkraut. 10/10 would toast again

Woman sitting outside my apartment complex for 30 minutes. I asked her if she was ok. ☹️ She was not ok, just had her electric bike stolen and she was sitting there too afraid to go home and tell her guy. She said she was just away from it a few minutes and then it was gone. Not much I could do other than console and say call the police.

I suspect the thieves were following her in a van and stole it real quick because what are chances of a bike being stolen like that?

but bloody hell that is rough and just before xmas too

How the fuck does one not get attached when house hunting? Obviously we need to like a place to throw that much money at it. Don't think my brain can deal with getting invested over and over and over

[–] tone212_@aussie.zone 8 points 2 weeks ago (6 children)

It’s horrible, there’s no two ways about it. Happened to me time and time again. I had to change mindset to β€œhopeful” of getting place X but not get too attached and realise it’s not the only suitable option that will cross your path. Easier said than done.

Watering sys. fixed!

Thank fuck for the ol' boys hoarding gene, found the right obscure bits. That took way too long to do.

All good now though. Big sigh of relief. Pulling that thing apart and redoing it was not fun.

Hair feels much better now (although transitioning between styles so a bit boofy). Remembered at the last minute to water my friend's plants near home. Managed some wins at uni too so I'm feeling alright. Things are under control for a moment!

Maybe I'll set up my new phone tonight. I'm quite ready to have my work stuff separate to personal again

At this point, dinner is roast potatoes. I might add some salmon and veg, but straight potato is sounding pretty alright for now.

I am supposed to be doing a survey counting birds in my garden and my neighbour's toddler has chosen now to have a screaming/crying fit. The kid definitely has healthy lungs.

[–] StudChud@aussie.zone 7 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

"0 birds recorded in the early evening, due to a young homo sapien losing their shit at volume"

[–] indisin@aussie.zone 9 points 2 weeks ago (5 children)

I may have goofed. Ordered some outdoor plants for our complete redo of the garden and without thinking rationally I just expected them to take 2-5 business days to arrive despite it being a local nursery, and I definitely didn't expect getting a knock on the door and hour and a half later with them.

And I can't even plant them this weekend due to the heat on Monday :(

Mr Woof was getting a bit aggro about something out the front. I expected it to be the usual person walking past or kids playing ball. Nope, there are two uniformed cops out the front watching an argument between who I assume is a mother and daughter that obviously got a bit heated. I guess police matters probably justify a good woof.

Update: Cops and mother? have now gone, and a bunch of kids with the daughter? walked past heading away. Maybe she invited a bunch of friends around without permission? In any case, they are no longer in sight, so Mr Woof is happy and peace has been restored.

So I got confirmation that I've been unsuccessful with that job I did reference checks for two weeks ago. I'll reply to the manager about it, but not right now. I'd like to work at this place in some context and I don't think I'll give the nicest response if I reply immediately

Yikes. My other next door neighbour has just let me know that her car was broken into as well last week and she had a very new model with the new keys.

It’s unsettling to hear that two of cars were broken into. We’re going to have to try and be vigilant and careful.

The police apparently lifted a set of prints from her car and I hope they catch the person responsible for doing this.

Without commenting on rightness or wrongness, it would be so exciting if people started offing nasty corporate figures, and Luigi was truly a turning point in human/American history.

Back at uni, someone's in my usual desk spot but luckily the library has fuck all people in it so there I am.

Made sure to PUT THE FUCKING PERMIT ON VISIBLY this time and triple checked. I haven't contested the fine yet but my psych said she was willing to write a medical letter in support just to give it a go and I don't feel like I deserve it but what the fuck, she offered, I'll take it as a sign to try.

So want to just bumble around today but I have a meeting with the other researchers at 2pm and feel like I don't know shit about fuck (I'm supposed to be trying out the sampling method now but just want to stare at grass). My body is fully prepared for relaxation and connection, not thinking!

Pakige! The augers I ordered to drill holes for planting my seedlings arrived, along with a couple of new trowels. I'm very impressed by the quality of these ones, they seem very strong. I've had flimsy trowels that have bent, these look ike they should last a good long time.

Why I am so good at procrasti-chores? I am just barely trying to get down to what I need to do in terms of today's meeting, but in the meantime I've cleared so many nitty gritty issues - filed a PHI claim, made a dentist booking (last available for the year - procrastinated for AGES on this), contacted old water company to get credit refund, inquired about 2025 parking permit, found out medical whatever letter process, sent a bunch of emails and put in a bunch of calendar appointments etc...

okay, focus, focus, spatial sampling, do the voronoi polygons or whatever, come on

[–] StudChud@aussie.zone 7 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

The brain is funny like that - "oh I have to do this shit thing? Well I'm gonna do the other shit things instead, for the dopamine hit. But! I can't do fun things or I'll feel guilty! So admin chores it is!"

Alright. The pain has eased enough that I can walk and make something to eat.

It's amazing how a small muscular change in a shoulder can induce absolute agony, nausea and exhaustion.

Argh, I really want to stress over this but this year my payday will actually fall on the Christmas public holidays and a bunch of things that need to be paid off have fallen on either side of the holiday days.

This is going to be a major headache if I can't work out something and sort it out.

Found a "sorry you were out" delivery card for the missus in the bushes down the side of the house. Luckily only a couple of days old. Am puzzled how it got there as our mailbox is of a type that would make it very difficult for it to escape somehow. Anyway, looking forward to what that is when she collects it. It had better be some sort of full rizz skibidee pressie for me.
