Not sure why anyone would troll about something like this, but also never trust random people on the internet, especially on medical advice, so.. Β―\_(ツ)_/Β―

Thanks for adding sources

Not sure why anyone would troll about something like this

This and your other comments in this thread make me concerned for you. There are a LOT of real, actual, existing human beings that delusionally think that tricking someone into pregnancy against their will is a morally victorious action, by any means necessary. They don’t concern themselves with such pleasantries as β€œgood faith” statements. They are a minority of people, but not by much. Please look after yourself and don’t underestimate the evil that organized religion is capable of.

The article you link to does not show any effect of activated charcoal on ovulation in women who use oral contraceptives. Not saying it's a good idea to eat charcoal, but the study didn't find an effect.

[–] Slovene@feddit.nl 18 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Why would it have an effect on ovulation? People are saying that the charcoal prevents the body from absorbing the pill. It's also why it's used in certain cases of poisoning.

[–] Alcatorda@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Yes, and the pill stops ovulation. So if there's no uptake of the pill, a woman will most likely ovulate. Ovulation is what was measured in the study.

Activate charcoal is very common medicine to fight gas and/or mild intestinal discomfort. Very effective when my farts become too noxious and I need to debloat....

Was it TMI..?

[–] Strider@thelemmy.club 60 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Had a cousin eat some spooky bread and found out the hard way what going cold turkey off her depression meds felt like. It was a rough couple days to get her back to baseline.

[–] ShareMySims@sh.itjust.works 13 points 1 month ago

Ooof, that's bad, could potentially be fatal. Take care out there, fellow medicated people!

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 55 points 1 month ago (6 children)

Since when do people eat activated charcoal? Am I missing something here?

[–] tiefling@lemmy.blahaj.zone 52 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It's frequently used to make food appear black. It has some legitimate uses but food shouldn't be one of them.

[–] stebo02@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 month ago (4 children)

used to make food appear black.

just one question: why??

[–] Nastybutler@lemmy.world 17 points 1 month ago (1 children)
[–] stebo02@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

because black drinks and food look so tasty...

[–] Zoomboingding@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Do you know what Halloween is...?

[–] stebo02@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

yes, we decorate our homes, dress up as spooky creatures, eat pumpkin related foods,... and apparently some people consume stuff that contains activated charcoal? for some reason?

[–] Zoomboingding@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

People make bowls of eyeballs (peeled grapes) intestines (spaghetti) and chopped fingers (hot dogs). Spooky foods are a staple, and so is the orange/black color scheme.

Yet another dumb trend that completely passed me by.

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

That article needs a rigourous editing from someone that doesn't think crystals can purge toxins.

[–] m4xie@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 1 month ago

Crystals can remove ingested toxins from the body if you shoot them out a cannon at someone and blast their stomach out.

[–] Zip2 21 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Since they started giving birth orally.

[–] 5714@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 month ago

Pukebirth sounds like a band name.

[–] smuuthbrane@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 month ago

Why burn your food for that harsh crunchy texture? Just eat activated charcoal instead, no need to spend all that time and money burning food, just pure taste sensation!

[–] hopesdead@startrek.website 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Years ago it was a trend to put activated charcoal in stuff like toothpaste and milk based coffee drinks.

[–] Voyajer@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

Still is for toothpaste at least

[–] Shellbeach@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Do you guys not take it against gas? That's a common item in medicine cabinets where I am.

I use simethicone for gas.

[–] SplashJackson@lemmy.ca 28 points 1 month ago (6 children)

How does someone give birth orally??

[–] SirQuackTheDuck@lemmy.world 24 points 1 month ago

Through the mouth, duh

this isn't medical advice, but activated charcoal pretty much absorbs everything. don't take it the same time you take a pill if you want that pill to do anything

[–] RebekahWSD@lemmy.world 25 points 1 month ago

And grapefruit can screw up various medicines! Not that this really applies to October. More in general.

[–] Hello_there@fedia.io 19 points 1 month ago (2 children)

There's stuff out there that can just make the pill ineffective? You'd think this would be known more widely.

[–] ShareMySims@sh.itjust.works 39 points 1 month ago (1 children)

There are several. Grapefruit is another example that comes to mind.

And I agree, these things should be much more widely known. But now you know!

[–] QuantumSparkles@sh.itjust.works 14 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Grapefruit has bad interactions with a lot of medications for some reason

[–] peopleproblems@lemmy.world 15 points 1 month ago

It has a chemical that is a potent CYP3A4 inhibitor - it basically turns off the enzyme that metabolizes a good chunk of medicines.

Earl grey tea has it too.

[–] jadedwench@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Another big one is antibiotics. I can tell you that none of my doctors when I lived in Texas mentioned it. It just slips their mind...

[–] 21Cabbage@lemmynsfw.com 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Y'all been adding activated charcoal to your drinks? I mean, dyed sugar is the only other thing I can think of to have that same 'look' to it but still, if all my garnish options sucked I'd just pour the drink without a garnish.

[–] ShareMySims@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 month ago

Good for you. Plenty of others do consume it though (you probably have too, without realising. It isn't just added to drinks like the photo might suggest), and I'm sure they'd appreciate the heads up.

[–] Orbituary@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

At first I thought this was about blowjobs.

[–] slazer2au@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

O.o. What's with the brackets around the A in aware?

[–] ShareMySims@sh.itjust.works 25 points 1 month ago

Be ware (because spooky)/be aware (because PSA), it's just a play on words..

[–] Murvel@lemm.ee 6 points 1 month ago

Ok, I will try to consume less activated charcoal πŸ™„

[–] thefartographer@lemm.ee 4 points 1 month ago

I swear I'm never going near the stuff, lest I'm fully committed to giving oral birth!
