If only speaking from personal experience, many games nowadays have an almost implicit requirement to search up a "before I play" guide or a "beginner recommendations". If nothing else, many people want to Google "missables", to ensure that they can fully experience a game.

What is your recommended game that requires nothing but the player to be in the moment and enjoy the experience?

Danganronpa for sure, Google loves to tell you exactly who dies and how.

Red Dead Redemption 2. I had the biggest spoiler just a few days into the game as I was barely into chapter two. I still haven't made it to that part years later because I know what's coming.

Outer Wilds

It is worth playing And the moment you find out why, you'll wish you never did and had instead played it yourself.

And everyone who has is burdened wishing they could only play it blind just one more time

Pony Island. Made by the same people who made inscryption but it isnt a card game.

Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice

You'll be super tempted to (especially at the end of the introduction), but the game is so much more tense if you play it blind

The Witness

Any visual novel -esque game. Danganronpa, Zero Escape, AI: the Somnium Files, Ace Attorney, Ghost Trick, etc.

Man, I remember trying to look up how old a character in Ghost Trick was and getting slammed with spoilers by those google images that always show up whenever you search anything.

Her Story.

My wife and I played through it, and loved it. I wish I could go back and play it again for the first time. Wasn't a fan of the sequel though, unfortunately.

Darkwood, Frostpunk, This war of mine, Prey 2017, Witcher and Mass Effect are probably mine.

[–] Trogdorthedoorinator@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Nier Automata.

Now having said that. If you want to watch someone else experience the game, that's fine too. The game is so impactful imo that I ugly cried at the end regardless.

Subnautica is such a joy to discover as you go. Don’t rob yourself of the pleasure of figuring things out.

Persona 5. Can be underwhelming if you already know the ending.

Superliminal

You sit down for an hour, maybe an hour and a half, maybe two. And you figure shit out on your own. Don't go "Superliminal level X walkthrough", go "alright what am I missing here". The game is so much more fun when you're the one finding out about stuff.

Just the trailer should be enough information whether or not it's your kind of game

[–] DistortedTriangle6@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

AI: The Somnium Files (AITSF) and its sequel, AI: The Somnium Files Nirvana Initiative Such wonderful twists and mysteries in both games require a blind play through to get the impact, specifically a certain REVERSE DRAMATIC IRONY in the second game !! How cool is that??

Inscryption

Unpopular opinion these days but basically any Fromsoft game. They're often praised/derided for their difficulty, but that's honestly not what's so enjoyable about them. Beating hard bosses is one thing, but finding new shortcuts, new weapons or armor, discovering NPCs or quest lines, or entire areas is way more rewarding. You can never really recapture that feeling of a blind playthrough, finding all those things on your own. Looking up mechanics/controls and stuff is okay, because honestly the tutorials are not great for those games, and if you truly think you've exhausted every option to progress forward and can't, as a last resort I'd suggest looking things up. But in general yeah, Fromsoft games are an absolute treat to play blind and it's just a shame the community since Elden Ring came out has reflexively derided the "git gud" culture and has encouraged new players to look up basically anything they want because doing it blind is for try hards. It's not, you're just missing out on arguably the best part of the games.

Edit: to clarify, first playthroughs only. Looking stuff up you missed or doing guided runs after an initial blind playthrough is peak entertainment IMO. But to each their own. I'll never tell anyone they are playing the game wrong for doing guides on their first run, only that they are missing out.

I would consider Baldur’s Gate 3 one of those games, not sure what others think

[–] LobsterJoe@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Danganronpa: THH, but especially Danganronpa 2. The plot twists and uncertainty really make the games what they are.

[–] dnew@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Pretty much any "adventure game." Myst, Riven, Exile, Outer Wilds, Obra Dinn, etc. Also some puzzle games like The Witness or Portal.

The gameplay loop of adventure games is to figure out how to play the game and what you're supposed to accomplish. Looking up how to play them is like reading the answer to a riddle before trying to solve it.

[–] bangontarget@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

disco elysium. it needs to be experienced blind imo

[–] InitialAge5179@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

OUTER WILDS.

Game can be fully beaten in under 10-15 minutes. Took me about 20 hours or something. The game is a masterpiece. DO NOT LOOK UP A DAMN THING. It’s a life changing game

[–] ZeeMcZed@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I have a few.

  • Doom 2
  • MyHouse.WAD (which I consider completely separate from Doom 2 in this sort of discussion.)
  • Dr. Langoskov, the Tiger, and the Terribly Cursed Emerald
  • Curse of Monkey Island, original trilogy
  • Strong Bad's Cool Games for Attractive People (and pirates now that you can't download it legal-wise no more, but I repeat myself)
  • Galaga
  • Hotline Miami
  • Helltaker
  • Terraria (Googling is allowed after the first six hours)

Hollow Knight. At least until after last boss to get all the cool endings.

[–] Faramari@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Doki doki literature club. I told a friend about this and warned him not to look up anything about the game. The freak out he had in the discord chat was totally worth it.

13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim

!The plot of the story is massively spoiled if you look up the voice actors of each character. Just don't.!<
