Not the same thing, but young me refused to play Majora’s Mask when I found out they took away my horse and all my loot from OoT lmao.

Youre right its not quite the same haha, but I mean it does take away everything that is consumable when you go back to the first day too. Which can be frustrating if you were, say, playing with little sleep and decide to travel back in time with over 1000 rupees only to watch that all go poof because you forgot to throw it in the bank and the last time you saved was over two hours ago...
Shadow of War. You build your army, and later you have a certain mission, a battle. So you send all your best soldiers, only to have one of them betray you, and you lose all your best orcs. That got me so pissed that I made an angry post about it 😂
I mean, not quite an answer but FF7 for reasons I'd rather not spoil just in case
Did OP add that or did you not read the post.
I'm almost certain it wasn't there before but I've been wrong before.
u/TapTapTapTapTapTaps am I illiterate?
The game is 26 years old, I think we can talk about it now.
Yes but also the Remake trilogy is still coming out and some of the people getting into it might not have any idea about that.
Planescape: Torment - you lose all your team upon entering the final area, I could not finish the game as they had all the charms in their inventory (potions). I guess it’s time to finally replay this classic.
Death Road to Canada.
My character just decided at random that he didn't want to continue and just left the dog and car.
First time I played FF7 I used Aeris as my healer pretty much exclusively. I recall not having leveled other characters, but this was 25 years ago. Red made a nice replacement.
The egg making off with my master worked staff and full guard on hit gear still has me salty
In Tomb Raider 3, if you don't go to Nevada first or go there last before Antarctica you're pretty much crippled
why?
I know it's low hanging fruit, but Starfield. Never seen an NG+ mechanism made in such a way. Completely nuts.
What's the mechanism?
Roguelite. New game, keep your meta progression, start from scratch otherwise.
Shadow of The Tomb Raider. Literally happens several times throughout the entire game where you'll drop down some trap and lose all your gear. The game almost never let's you use your guns instead forcing you to stealth through unless you're in a hub area.
Shadow is the last one I need to finish in this series.
I got burnt out because I 100% the first one, and like 90% the second one in like a few months. Started the third and realized I needed a break from the genre.
Honestly I'd just give it a pass. It's a 5/10 at best. When I finished it I just had this feeling of "I like a little more game in my games".
Don't bother.
Three lost all its charm. The "lost city" you find is terrible and >!a very poor farming community with mud everywhere. No vast ancient ruins, just mud!!<
LISA The Painful has a large cast of characters, some of which are much stronger than others, and like most RPGs, you gain experience and level up by fighting.
However, several times in the game you are forced to make extremely hard choices, up to and including sacrificing the characters in your party (they permanently die). At another point you play Russian roulette by picking a party member to put the gun to their head and pull the trigger. Bad RNG? They're dead and gone forever.
If you don't know these events are coming up, you can very easily lose your favorite party/characters forever, and it's almost assured the ones you use are your strongest, since they're the ones you're using in your party.
They don't call it "The Painful" for no reason.
Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse takes away your Demons OR your stuff if you decide to play against your alignment as dictated by choices you made over the course of the game.
This kind of applies for Far Cry 5, in the region in the bottom left of the map progressing enough will have kidnapped and brought to a bunker which you have to escape. You lose everything you have on you, while you can get your guns back you have purchase all grenades and ammo again which costs a lot.
GTA SA
You do get them back later on, but the newest Fire Emblem Engage has this rings mechanic where each unit gets a ring that contains the spirit of a warrior from one of the previous Fire Emblem games, powers up your unit, etc.
I really mapped it out on my starting run, only to lose all of the rings in like Chapter 10. I can sort of see why the game would do this because like I said you do get them back, but it’s frustrating when a game just takes your momentum away.
Especially with how good some of those rings are. Lief in particular is a very helpful way to get gold, and of course Sigurd has his amazing Canto ability.
Metal Gear Solid 5. I spent forever searching for the perfect soldiers for my base, then >!the virus came along, I did not figure out it's clue, and many of my people died.!<
Whatever was the clue? I heard it was from soldiers of a certain descent or region
In risk of rain 2 all of your gear is given to the final boss part way through the fight. You can get it back by doing damage but the stronger you are going into that fight, that harder he hits while trying to get your stuff back.
RDR2
I was pretty pissed on my first palythrough when all of my donations just disappeared.
Fuck you, Dutch!
Took some time to go get the white horse that is extremly beautiful. And then it dies. Already really painful having your horse die, but having one that took me efforts to get hit even worse.
That emotion is part of the story. Well done Rockstar
In Cyberpunk 2077, there is a side mission where you lose all your stuff and your clothes (except cyberware). The mission wants you to go through a group of bad guys while being weaker but it kinda fall flat if you have weapons in your arms (Gorilla Arms, Mantis Blades, etc) or a buffed up Cyberdeck.
It's been awhile but I think you lose your characters equipped items for a chunk of the game on Kidd. And permanently on Harle.
Grandia has multiple characters come and go without warning, but I can't remember if you lose their gear when they leave.
Red Dead ii does that, but you do get all the most important stuff back after a bunch of no equipment missions.
Miitopia does it like 2 or 3 times in one playthrough, at least it lets you try out new powers to compensate
The worst offenders are Jeanne d’Arc and Baldur’s Gate 2 which just decide to take away your important characters with everything they had in their inventory and leaving you without an important class.
What Imoen at the beginning? No chance for important gear after leaving the first dungeon. What other character do you loose?
Fallout: NV in dead money did this.
You do get your stuff back when leaving Sierra Madre, I enjoyed it though.
When playing Mount and Blade Warband with the Viking Conquest module, you start in the country of Friese. Due to things that happen during the mainquest, you pretty much get kicked out of the country and get threatened that after a ceartain amount of time passes, the lords will brand you as an enemy and turn hostile. This is exceptionally bad if you end up saving money and decide to invest in a business in the capital of the country, which can be quite a lot. Its best if you take your money when leaving and open a business somewhere else.
