What democracy? It's a two-party, two-opinion system that's completely broken at the verge of civil war. The US is the least democratic country of all democracies.

[–] timidgoat@lemmy.ca 10 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I can think of one immediately that may fight the US for that title..

[–] 800XL@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

When the civil war breaks out, head straight for the homes of the rich and ultra rich with whatever you need to scare the shit out of them and to let them know wethe people are watching them. Let them know they'll be held accountable for what they've done to the world.

one thing not brought up is pollution

NASCAR ran lead gas up until 2007 which affected both spectators and people living in the surrounding areas

this and other pollutions have most certainly affected the US elections and maybe elsewhere

takes a healthy, educated populace to make change and between pollution, schools, food and healthcare our citizens are in a stranglehold with no way out but revolt

They still use leaded fuel in airplanes. There are higher concentrations of lead contamination within a mile of an airport.

[–] NOT_RICK@lemmy.world 8 points 3 months ago (1 children)

TIL, although I do see this is just the case for piston engine planes rather than jets.

[–] PriorityMotif@lemmy.world 10 points 3 months ago (1 children)

IMO it makes it worse because we're just allowing rich people to use it so they don't have to pay to modify their private planes

[–] NOT_RICK@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I just read a report that says most piston aircraft don’t even need modifications to use unleaded so it sounds even dumber than that.

The FAA is too afraid to allow it and there isn't enough pressure to do anything about it.

Don't forget all the lead in paint and other products.

[–] LustyArgonianMana@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

Even just rising levels of carbon dioxide take off a couple of IQ points.

[–] TheDemonBuer@lemmy.world 12 points 3 months ago (3 children)

It absolutely is not sustainable, that's true. Something's gotta give. We have fundamentally different, diametrically opposed visions for what we want America to be. That has to be resolved, one way or another. Either one vision wins out over the other, we try to find a compromise between the two visions, or we break apart and go our separate ways. The way I see it, those are our options. Unless there's some other option I'm not seeing?

[–] lolcatnip@reddthat.com 16 points 3 months ago (3 children)

What would a compromise even look like, and who would be willing to accept it? Stuff like "the president can be a dictator, but only on even numbered days" certainly won't fly with me.

[–] tiefling@lemmy.blahaj.zone 19 points 3 months ago (1 children)

We're past compromise. You don't compromise with Nazis.

[–] Deceptichum@quokk.au -1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Yeah but violence against Nazis is bad now?

[–] 800XL@lemmy.world 5 points 3 months ago

It always has been. Fascist protests and rallies are protected by police under the umbrella of free speech but as you've seen the protests of students against Israel or fascists are put down.

Always punch nazis. They are literal scum of the world.

[–] radivojevic@discuss.online 3 points 3 months ago

Well, who decides the even numbers? Do weeks start on Monday or Sunday? Do arrays start with 0 or 1?!?! Maybe they should have a subcommittee get to the bottom of it.

[–] TheDemonBuer@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

That's a good question. I'm not sure what a compromise would look like, assuming it's even possible.

[–] PriorityMotif@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

The goal was to reduce the power of the federal government, now everyone is on board with that. Now businesses only have to deal with state regulations instead of federal, and states are much easier to control/fight. All of this culture war crap was just a way to get people to fight for deregulation.

[–] ThrowawayPermanente@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Partition the country, it's too big as-is

[–] samus12345@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

The downfall of many an empire, they get too big to manage.

[–] Alwaysnownevernotme@lemmy.world 6 points 3 months ago

Even less so for a "democracy"

[–] NarrativeBear@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

Microplastics may be causing cognitive issues in the worlds population.

[–] 800XL@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

That and "small town values"

[–] Noodle07@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

You mean racism?

I think he means racism

[–] Pandantic@midwest.social 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Trump and Biden should put out a joint statement condemning the use of violence as a political weapon, according to Fox, adding that he fears there will be more violence following the shooting.

Bets on this ever happening?
