Thanks for the high praise. But also quite accurate.

I've been a mod before, in other places. My rule always ended up biased and unfair, but thankfully I was quickly overthrown. There's a degree of separation when being part of the staff that alienates my view from that of the user base over time. Also, as said above, i am a bit of a cunt with people I don't like. Can't help it really..

It's a tough gig, combating hatefulness, and most social media would rather pay fines than actually do their job in this regard. And constantly being exposed to the stress and negativity, well, it changes you.

I wish you luck and remember to visit the wholesome side of Lemmy more often, to keep in mind why you do this thankless job.

Ps: Thank you

Well shit! So no fucking around anymore? What about Australians? Are they still allowed to go "cunt" this and "cunt" that? I think it's part of their cultural identity and forcing them to stop might harm them on an emotional level.

And what about the Polish? Or was it Poles? I forget. Anyway, "kurwa bobr" is an international sensation. We cannot censor it without it being called abuse and attracting a different kind of "kurwa"s posts.

Insults that are part of one's cultural identity should be protected. And as such, I propose that the mod team should sacrifice a small amount of time in their day to learn culturally appropriate swear words from languages across the globe and share them with the rest of the users so that we may all know the socially acceptable way of insulting one another in a polite and friendly fashion.

A pleasant non-fucking day to you all. (They say abstinence makes the heart grow fond)

That's discriminatory against orcs.

What if the DNC privately wins by making sure their candidate loses?

No worries. The people in question don't even know Lemmy exists. This is just venting in the wind.

What if they're at the receiving end?

They never went away because their ideals were not defeated. They went away into a USA that segregated blacks from whites and had Japanese internment camps. You blame Nazis as the source, but they are merely a symptom of a human condition. And as long as we don't collectively uplift ourselves, it's never going to be overcome, no matter how many proponents are killed off or muffled in the background.

Well, I'd like to call them people. Wanna know why? I'll tell you even if you don't. It's because despite our choices in life, we are all people. We can hate each other, renounce our humanity or run away from the truth with a myriad of excuses, but at the heart of the matter we are all people.

As long as you never let go of that concept, you will understand that those that do let go become capable of incredible harm to one another. And when that happens, the main point to be wary of isn't when they will do incredible harm, but whether to join them in letting go as well. Because once you join them in this, you too will be capable of causing incredible harm.

Is that train of thought wrong? Or is killing each other the only real answer?

Sounds like a bunch of shitty historians.

Of course the motives matter, most of all for a good historian. Those who wish to reconstruct the past shall not be deterred from their goal just because "nobody cares anymore". Fidelity to an accurate representation of the past is the only acceptable rendition of history, otherwise why even bother.

What's its name? I've seen some before, but rarely. Once every few years or so. Thanks

Edit: the likeliest candidate is an Old House Borer without antennae.
