She fought for the Union during the US Civil war. Ran spy networks, lead at least one raid in the confederate territory with a couple of steam gunships and a lot of soldiers.

She was kind of ridiculously bad ass. Less nice old lady, more Solid Snake.

Oof. I mean good for her, but she seems very unprepared and unaware of how the legal system works.

Dunno. Normally I'd say he'd probably cop charges or at least a ride to the station, but since he was just doxxed that might change the math on permissable self defense.

Though he did voluntarily open and answer the door so that might throw him bacvk to aggressor

"Get in the car loser! We're going shopping!" Is from a movie called "Mean Girls" that had a ton of cultural impact about 20 years. The meme format is usually "get in the car loser!" And then something relevant to whatever joke is being made. It is not intended to imply that the audience are losers, it's good natured ribbing.

[–] Frank@hexbear.net 10 points 1 day ago

Oh yeah i think i remember that. Was that boston or philly? I can't even keep track anymore!

[–] Frank@hexbear.net 14 points 1 day ago

Yeah. Yup. Absolutely. Life in the 2020s is just too ridiculous, too laden with conspiracies and legal non-conspiracies, too much sci fi stuff.

This is very relatable. We are often expected to suppress or ignore our emotions. As you said, this can be done for a long time but for many people there will eventually be some kind of rupture. That rupture can take all kinds of forms but they are often dramatic and may be frightening, especially if your emotions have been suppressed for a very long time.

The sensation of being "controlled" could be the result of some underlying medical or psychological condition, but it could also just be a one-off response to dealing with a great amount of stress.

Why even be a footie fan if you don't like a good scrap?

Regina George is riding a bright pink tank. Emblazoned on the tank is the Hexbear logo and the words "Look at this dope ass bear". Above the tank are written the words "get in loser!" and below that the words "We're developing a pretty basic materialist understanding of history based on reading books that weren't written by anti-communist cold warriors and for some reason that's going to piss everyone off and short circuit their brains".

Edit for clarity: I'm not asking why the Tankie/Anarchist grudge exist. I'm curious about what information sources - mentors, friends, books, TV, cultural osmosis, conveys that information to people. Where do individuals encounter this information and how does it become important to them. It's an anthropology question about a contemporary culture rather than a question about the history of leftism.

I've been thinking about this a bit lately. Newly minted Anarchists have to learn to hate Lenin and Stalin and whoever else they have a grudge against. They have to encounter some materials or teacher who teaches them "Yeah these guys, you have to hate these guys and it has to be super-personal like they kicked your dog. You have to be extremely angry about it and treat anyone who doesn't disavow them as though they're literally going to kill you."

Like there's some process of enculturation there, of being brought in to the culture of anarchism, and there's a process where anarchists learn this thing that all (most?) anarchists know and agree on.

Idk, just anthropology brain anthropologying. Cause like if someone or something didn't teach you this why would you care so much?

I'm struggling to find numbers because Google has been enshittified and will only show me local rental advertising, but, like, if I understand this the cost of food, since Biden took office, is up like 20%, and rent is up ~30%, medicine and childcare are still totally unaffordable, and everything else is much more expensive. Meanwhile wages are up like, idk, 20$ a week or something.

Cause, this all adds up to me as people are drastically poorer than they were four years ago, but the economics perverts on bsky insist people should kiss Biden's shoes because wages are up 4.3% and "The ecnonomy is good."

Can someone help with numbers I don't know how to convince a liberal that people need to eat food or they'll die.

There's so much text here I don't know how to alt text it but it's a list of 17 bluesky block lists I'm on because I'm a evil cryptofash tankie authoritarian trump supporting jill stein voting blah blah blah and it looks like I got on an anti-ukraine list somehow?

Just started this, dunno how it'll turn out. But it's kind of neat to see a depiction of later samurai, long after their swords had rusted in their scabbards and they had to find real jobs. It seems pretty light hearted so far. Crappy jobs, every day heroism, overbearing grandparents, and dreams that are just out of reach.

When you're scrolling through social media please keep in mind that Social Media users, especially Reddit, Twitter, and Bsky are deeply strange freaks and may not be representative of the general population. There are lots of normal people in America too. Admittedly, Id on't know any of them because I haven't touched grass in years, but they exist.

Just thinking about what quick, digestible document I could throw at libs who are panicking and desperate for something to hold on to and i can't really think of something that's written for treat demons but still actually communist.

Any thoughts?

How can I punch this up? Of old people believed that satirists could cause physical injury to people they satirized and I'm trying to bring that energy back.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck everything sucks and I hate this planet.

And yet tomorrow the sun will rise.

CW: Idk really there's a lot of images, but it should mostly be a little edgy. Assume some violence and libshit.
