Saying its for the Moddershall while not having modding support is stupid. I know they're adding it but you don't get to use that excuse when plenty of games (Bethesda included) are still fun and fulfilling without mods. Baldur's Gate 3 was released a month prior to this.

With how hard redditors are pushing this, it makes me almost certain that it's exaggerated, a result of the internet journalism telephone game, or completely made up.

Here's one of their responses in response to someone saying that the empty planets were boring:

Greetings,
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review for Starfield!
We are sorry that you do not like landing on different planets and are finding many of them empty.
Some of Starfield’s planets are meant to be empty by design — but that's not boring. “When the astronauts went to the moon, there was nothing there. They certainly weren't bored." The intention of Starfield's exploration is to evoke a feeling of smallness in players and make you feel overwhelmed. You can continue to explore and find worlds that do have resources you need or hidden outposts to look through.

Im also pretty sure alot of this is just parroting streamers to jump on the hate train.
Not that uncommon.

[–] Furlz@alien.top 2 points 9 months ago

I knew from the start that the vastness of this game would be a bit of a turn off. I'd rather have a smaller map with lots of special areas and places to visit

[–] DarkISO@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Technically can be said about any game someone doesnt like... 🙄 like BG3

The worst Bethesda game of your life so far.

Yep elder scrolls 6 is gonna stink. Guess it’s back to reinstalling Skyrim with 200 mods every few years for the rest of our lives. lol

"Try walking in it backwards. Try building a different character because it's obvious the way you want to play our game isn't the right way to play it."

Seriously, I haven't even been able to watch Many a True Nerd play the game because even he can't make the game engaging enough for me.

I got Starfield for free with my purchase of a Ryzen 7 7700X and have not even redeemed it

[–] Pohaku1991@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

I did the first like opening mission and got bored and never touched it again. Didn’t feel bad bc same with me I didn’t pay for it

[–] SaltyAsFries@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

If you like Bethesda games you'll like it. Yes it's barren in some places but the cities and quest feel like Bethesda. If you don't like them a ton, you probably won't like it. (I could be wrong but that's how I see it, I like starfield, but it doesn't beat fallout 3, nv or even 4 for me)

And it's shocking to me how many tens of thousands of people paid $100 just to play it 5 days earlier

A dome city on mars would have been awesome

[–] JustPuffinAlong@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago (10 children)

I'll be downvoted to oblivion for this, but I think it's perfectly fine.

Is it the greatest thing I've ever played? No, but not every game has to be the best game since Ocarina of Time.

I'm 67 hours in and still enjoying it, and I arguably haven't gotten into the really time consuming stuff like Outpost or Ship building.

It's a piece of media-consume it or don't, but don't let the internet make your mind up for you in either direction.

[–] Darebarsoom@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

perfectly fine

That's that out of 10?

[–] hootie_hatch_061@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

I’m not letting the internet make up my mind. I played it and I think it sucks

[–] RadWalk@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Same, like 90 hours in and it’s still fun to me, still story quests I haven’t done yet

[–] Badboy420xxx69@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

it plays like a 40 dollar game

Starfield hyped.

Starfield released.

Countless "This game is amazing" posts.

Followed by, "Well, I think it's fun."

Followed by "There really isn't much to do."

Followed by Bethesda "The game isn't boring, you're boring."

Followed by "Okay, we hate this game now."

[–] noother10@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

The Bethesda response came at the end.

You also forgot the "Performance isn't the best"

Followed by, Todd: "Maybe you need to upgrade your computer?"

I’m glad there are people that enjoy it but to me it feels like recycled Skyrim or fallout both games that are already dated. They completed failed to capitalize on what should have been the best aspect of the game. Space exploration

I played it and had fun and all, but it will be a really good game in 6~7 years thanks to mods.

[–] ThunkThink@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

This perfectly encapsulates my experience with starfield.

[–] YUGIOH-KINGOFGAMES@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

These posts are getting pathetic

As a fan of Ace Combat and HAWX games, I love Starfield’s dogfighting. It’s the perfect RPG simply because of that.

Is the problem actually that the planets are boring, the problem that no man's sky has had for years? Read a single reddit post!

[–] Mysterious-Theory713@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

I remember them starting to do this with fallout 76 a few months back, it’s just bizarre.

[–] Mal_531@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

The amount of copium people are smoking about this game is unreal. Half the posts are "this bug is so cool!!!"

[–] Mousewaterdrinker@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago (14 children)

I was so disappointed to find out there weren't an intelligent race of aliens. Bethesda puts all kinds of crazy shit in their games. I expected talking aliens.

I played the game for 80 hours and was never bored. Maybe the problem isn't the game, but people is trying to get content from a SP game like if it was a GaaS. I swear I've seen some people review the game as "boring" after 140 hours of playtime. Not defending how they responded to the reviews tho, and I'm also not saying people can get bored with thing i like!

I get that base building is mostly optional but I feel like that system could have benefited exploring these barren planets by actually setting up labs for environment testing etc.

I mean even the transport goods missions were few and far between to the point it wasn't really worth trying to build a huge transport factory across multiple planets to complete the orders.

I think if Bethesda actually made sure the systems they put in the game were utilized to a fuller capacity the game would feel much better.

Also the way to rank up skills was an interesting take but missed the mark by making a number of them extremely grindy to level as opposed to happening naturally. If they'd have put in separate conditions for ranking a skill up (allowing it to rank up via A condition or B condition) it might have taken the grind out of some of them. I know getting the explosives leveled took a lot of save scumming as half the time I killed someone with a grenade it wouldn't register that they died via an explosive.

It's like they had a bunch of small teams work on separate systems and didn't have them interact with the quest designers or the other teams and so you're left with a lot of things just there and not utilized. It makes the meme of Bethesda leaving it up to the modders to complete the game less of a meme and just a factual statement.

I don’t understand why they don’t ask “what can we do to make these barren planets better”, instead of “empty planets are fun!”… ironically its this that has turned me off from buying Starfield … cheers Bethesda

[–] Ok_Mud2019@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

because they'd be admitting that they screwed it up, and nobody has the time nor the maturity to do that.

Barren was the vision. To make the planets fun you’d have to fill them with content which goes against the vision.

Reject fun, embrace the vision.

Once they revealed that it was going to be about 1000 procedurally generated planets, my hype fizzled out. Almost no game gets this right. It's all boring unless you add a shit ton of content to the game that can scale with the procedural generation or have a solid game play loop. Which, this game doesn't have... I wish they had like 10-20 planets that were fleshed out and had more than 1 big city in them that almost all the quests have you going back to. This game is just stale and too simple imo

If they had gamified studying or surveying empty planets in some kind of immersive and interesting way, I could actually really get into it.

Make them a different kind of challenge. Devoid of life and stations, but environmental challenges and weird caves with unique challenges and rewards. Random crashed ships, or you know complexes that forward the main story...

Just off the top of my head. Sad that they chose this and then doubled down when people gave them negative feedback.

I got one of those chatgpt style responses on my negative steam review that raised 5 major issues with the game. So irritating.

[–] Helphaer@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Effectively there's really nothing without changing the core features of the game. They might remove one of the greater offenders that keeps popping but it'll still have all the issues and the core content won't change.

[–] UFONomura808@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago (2 children)

Uh did Niel Armstrong try to make the moon better?
