Only a fellow Boomer like Maher would think anything makes Trump look cool. Even most of the people who voted for him don't think that.

Bill Maher is a douchebags douchebag.

[–] droporain@lemmynsfw.com 11 points 5 days ago (1 children)

How does he even still have a show?

Boomer and Xoomer libs.

Honestly I agree with Bill that democrats need to ... let's say do a revision of their approach. Because whatever they did in the past years is clearly not working

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 12 points 5 days ago

I mean that's not exactly an original thought. The "original thought" part, however, is really fucking stupid.

Only the MAGA people think he's cool. The rest of the people who voted for him just thought he was better than Harris. Which is far from the same thing.

You mean the “at least we’re not Republicans” approach? The problem with that is, they’d actually have to advocate for positive change. Things that benefit Americans. But that’s antithetical to liberalism, because it means being accountable to people rather than the wealthy ruling class.

Remember when Biden told big donors “nothing will fundamentally change” and then nothing fundamentally changed? Yeah, literally everyone who isn’t a billionaire is sick of that.

You don’t think Democrats advocated for any positive change?

I can think of at least a half dozen major initiatives cemented by legislation, and more that couldn’t pass Republican controlled congresses.

And by past years, you mean basically everything since 1996.

The fact Obama got elected at all is just a statement to how much people resented the idea of Bush term 3 (in the form of McCain who was campaigning on the idea of being a continuation of Bush in every way).

And Biden got elected because people were sick of trumps fuckery......yet here we are. Yet again....

The democrats need to get off their ass, and not worry about pleasing the right. Go full-on "public services and universal health care for all, every pothole filled, elderly cared for.

Instead, they're trying to be republican lite.....which isn't going to work.

And I am not convinced that four more years of Trump will teach the Dems a damn thing. They need to go hard left when Republicans go hard right. Instead, after this term, they will still be trying to court the elusive, and nonexistent, "centrist" contingent.

I'm not convinced Democrats will be anything but an in name only opposition party with a Russian-style election in four years. If they even bother with an election.

[–] SinningStromgald@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

Quite possible.

[–] Bronzebeard@lemm.ee 1 points 5 days ago

They've already decided to blame the voters again instead of realizing their steadfast defense of their corporate owners over their actual constituents is what keeps chasing the voters away

Sometimes the worst people can make a point.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago (2 children)

You really think Trump looks cool? Really?

[–] veniasilente@lemm.ee 5 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I meant the "Democrats fucked it up" part.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

Yeah, that part is fine and I also don't disagree. It was the second part that was the reason I posted it.

[–] kn33@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Unfortunately, to a lot of people that aren't millennials, yes

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

I do not agree with that. Just because people voted for Trump doesn't mean they think he's cool. It means they thought he was better than Harris. I did not accept the "you all love Biden and that's why you voted for him" thing from people on the right, since it wasn't true, so I am not going to make the same accusation.

Sure, there are a bunch of MAGA assholes who really do think he's cool. They were the minority of people who voted for him.

[–] Montagge@lemmy.zip 1 points 5 days ago

This is propaganda. Don't fall for it.
