Look, I'm not worried about the people that are UNinformed. I'm terrified of the MISinformed. They can pass these "tests" but still think the "elite" is Harris/Walz and not Trump/Musk/Murdock/Bezos...

[–] BumpingFuglies@lemmy.zip 25 points 2 days ago (4 children)

Even worse are the people who think Harris isn't part of the "elite" just because she's on team blue. All D.C. politicians (with rare exception) are on the same team, and it ain't ours.

[–] Katana314@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Money, to a degree, is power. If you decide that everyone with any power is against you, you’re pretty much consigning your side to total powerlessness.

“Good news, everyone! I seized enough power to give us universal healthcare!”
“But now you’re an elite! Fuck off!”

While I understand this frustration, time and again, Democrats have overwhelmingly voted to make the lives of their constituents better, while Republicans overwhelmingly voted against.

It's not both sides, it's top and bottom. And consistently the right tries to keep you at the bottom much much more than the left.

Oh, I completely agree that the issues plaguing us are driven by class disparity, not political or ethical disagreements. And yes, there's no doubt that Team Blue trends more toward progressivism than Team Red.

They play to different demographics, but ultimately, they're just different shades of conservative and only out for themselves.

That being said, given no other choice, I'd rather have the politician who pretends to care over the one who doesn't even try to hide their contempt for common decency.

overwhelmingly

Well that's a bit much. They might throw a bone here and there sure.

[–] PlainSimpleGarak@lemmings.world -1 points 2 days ago

It's sad most people don't believe this. Team blue isn't your friend. As you said, every once in a great while they might do something that's in your best interest. But it's more likely it's in their best interest and coincidentally also in your interest.

It's a big club.....and you ain't in it!

[–] qed123@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (2 children)

its all i see RUSSIANS OR RUSSIAN PROPAGANDISTS saying le BOTH SIDES OR THE SAME or blaming everything on le DEMS or leftists or u know any if the 20000 ways u can tell someone usnt a native english speaker by the way they phrase their bs

[–] BumpingFuglies@lemmy.zip 6 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

The irony of implying I have poor command of the language in that barely-intelligible rant would be funny if it wasn't so sad. Well, it's still a little funny.

Also, anyone who's lived in this country long enough and paid just a modicum of attention knows that federal elections are always about choosing the lesser of two evils - about choosing your preffered flavor of corruption.

And really - Russian Propagandist? Again, the irony of your implications is palpable. Though I don't think you're a Russian agent or any such nonsense; I suspect you're just a kid who hasn't yet learned the importance of eloquence nor has had enough life experience to have a fully-informed political opinion. And there's nothing wrong with that. Just, ya know, be civil.

trolllololo

48 year old who aint got shit to prove to a "both sides are the same" imbecelic cretin

sorry i hurt your head, Ivan

[–] RandomVideos@programming.dev 1 points 1 day ago

I think that, because so many other people are saying "both sides are the same", a lot of lemmy users are misinterpreting comments saying that the democratic party is bad as saying that both sides are the same

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world -4 points 1 day ago

still think the “elite” is Harris/Wal

Wait, a Midwestern governor and a Vice President aren't "elite"? What on earth qualifies?

[–] DarkCloud@lemmy.world 19 points 2 days ago (2 children)

What a dupe that guy is for believing there are known percentages for all those things... Plus even asking people if they know these things is going to cause some people to go learn them shifting the percentages immediately.

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago (1 children)

And then there's me. If I think the fastest way to get this person I don't know to stop talking is by claiming I'm dumb....then suddenly I don't know what color grass is.

“You’re an alpha? Is that a furry thing?”

[–] TheFriar@lemm.ee 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

lol I saw that post and I’ve been excitedly waiting for the opportunity to use it on some alpha bro. I’m straight giddy at the prospect

[–] lunarul@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago

That post made me wish for a second I knew people like that. Then I went back to being happy I don't.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

It's tiresome to see any kind of "X% of people don't know Y" with no citation.

You can just say anything and people will believe worse.

Also no real analysis or diagnosis or probing of the info. Just a bland "heh, people are stupid aren't they?" doomerism.

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Trump delivered the Gettysburg address, obviously.

It's ORBITS the sun.

Not "revolves around the sun".

[–] agamemnonymous@sh.itjust.works 20 points 2 days ago

In what context is there a difference? "Orbit" and "revolve around" are synonyms.

[–] bilb@lem.monster 23 points 2 days ago (2 children)

They both orbit a common center of mass called a barycenter. I assume that's what the 26% said.

[–] Hexarei@programming.dev 3 points 1 day ago

Funnily enough, the barycenter of the earth and sun is inside the sun iirc

[–] kuberoot@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 1 day ago

If you want to make that argument, you have to account for all the other bodies in the solar system... Which I think then becomes a hard problem to predict the movements thereof in the long term?

[–] WhatsHerBucket@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)
[–] whyNotSquirrel@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

there is a logical explanation here, no?

First they selected only people who failed, but still, they are seeing the same map as us?

I don't want to believe it's legit! please! Are the maps in the USA shaped differently for them to be so confused, was there an all you can drink buffet behind?

[–] PunnyName@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Jimmy Kimmel's show is filmed in the El Capitan in the heart of Hollywood Blvd. As long as the sun is out (and a few hours after), that street will be perpetually littered with people from all corners of the country, and the world. Choosing only 4-5 people out of the hundreds that pass by every hour is not a true indicator of reality

Also, USA maps usually have the north American continent directly in the center:

https://www.freeworldmaps.net/world/america-centric/america-centered-worldmap.jpg

Nevertheless, those specific people are so fucking humiliatingly stupid, and yet they vote. So...

[–] Ravenson@lemm.ee 5 points 2 days ago

US citizen here, all the world maps the teachers had on the walls in school placed the North American continent in the top left, with the Prime Meridian running along the center or very close to it (sometimes things were adjusted a bit so that Siberia would be entirely on the right side of the map instead of straddling both edges). North American-centric world maps might very occasionally show up, but only in contexts where it made more sense to divide Eurasia than the Pacific.
