If Republicans truly saw companies hiring illegal immigrants as an issue, they'd be able to easily crack down on business owners doing the hiring and make the punishment more than just a slap on the wrist.

No, the cruelty towards other humans is the point. They don't care about the non-existent issue.

[–] TimLovesTech@badatbeing.social 50 points 6 days ago (2 children)

The slippery slope here is that deciding who is "illegal" may vary wildly depending on who Trump empowers (legit or just some Nazis that want "safe streets") to decide this. He has had people saying just undocumented, but also people saying anyone that isn't a full citizen (so anyone here with a Visa/Green Card/work papers/migrant workers/refugees/etc.).

You also know that when the Nazis/KKK folks get to work they are just going to be grabbing people that "look illegal" or that run from them/their mob (because they look dangerous!).

This is also going to have a HUGE impact on food prices when farmers have nobody to pick crops.

[–] NJSpradlin@lemmy.world 18 points 6 days ago

Get out of here with your woke pronouns, it’s ’he/him mob’!

Trump has been busted for hiring illegals and faced no real consequences

Greetings from Germany. Maybe you want to skip everything that happens from now on and end this before this lunatic takes office.

On a unrelated topic: aren't you the nation with the most guns?

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 71 points 6 days ago (14 children)

aren’t you the nation with the most guns?

Yes, and ownership is predominantly with those who want to kill/ deport immigrants. In the US, there are ~120.5 guns per 100 people. However, this statistic is misleading, because you might expect most people to have 1 gun, and a few people to have more than one to get to that statistic. However, most households do not have a fire arm.

So the average gun-owner, actually owns from 4-8 guns, while the majority of Americans own 0 guns. We have a culture of gun-obsessed rightwing psychopaths.

The majority of voters who cast a valid ballot voted for him, what do you even do with those people? You get rid of their leader, another take their place. The military took an oath to the constitution, that included recognizing the results of elections, regardless of if they are a fascist. The US isn't a Defensive Democracy like modern day Germany, we aren't getting rid of them until the next election, that is, if there ever is a next election.

The majority of the gun owners are also right wing Trumpers.

Who the fuck knew we are going to see the fall of America in our lifetimes. The only thing I hope for at this point is strong Europe.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 34 points 6 days ago

Who the fuck knew we are going to see the fall of America in our lifetimes.

No one thinks major downward shifts will happen in their lifetime...until they do. Our great shame is that we voted for it.

Writing's on the wall. We're squarely on the path of decline.

Only thing to debate now is the timeline.

I remember pointing out to my 8th grade social studies teacher that most countries don't get to exist for over 200 years, especially after they have a massive civil war.

Speaking as a Canadian, I'm confused. If you boot out all the undocumented, where are you going to find the migrant workers to do all the unpleasant, if not downright dangerous jobs? And many of those are in red states. What does that leave? The convict workforce? I guess that is huge in the US.

We have migrant workers here too. They come on temporary visas, so they are technically documented. But the whole sector is rife with discrimination and human rights violations regardless.

The children yearn for the mines.

[–] ObstreperousCanadian@lemmy.ca 22 points 6 days ago (2 children)

This. Defunding education, removing social safety nets, and scaling back labour laws all will force whole families of low income workers to replace the migrant workers for the same or worse pay.

He'll be focusing on undocumented folks in blue states, first, for sure. But economists are already predicting skyrocketing grocery prices as labor scarcity is forcibly introduced by these deportations, either way.

My guess, he focuses purely on "shock and awe" by targeting blue cities with workplace raids rather than just going to literally every farm in the south.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 19 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Yup.

Getting rid of a ton of cheap labor is not good for an economy.

Red states will suffer more.

They'll ask for more federal funds to support them than they already do.

Their daddy in the big seat will give it to them.

Just more of our money going to a bunch of ignorant/racist fools who can't learn to vote more intelligently.

[–] Paddzr@lemmy.world 12 points 6 days ago (1 children)

In a roundabout way.. If they get the handouts, they will see trump as the saviour. The fact he caused the issues are irrelevant or that it costs something else so they can get their trump food stamps...

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 10 points 6 days ago

It doesn't matter how badly this administration fails. At the end of 4 years they'll find a way to blame Democrats and praise Trump, even though that makes no sense because their team is in total control.

But that's the nature of a cult.

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 18 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

A migrant worker is not undocumented. Many are here in a legitimate work visa and it’s heavily used in farming.

Undocumented aliens comprise several subgroups and I suppose you can say “I really meant ….”.

For example the most common illegal is a formerly legal visiting student or worker who overstays their visa. And as you said, this is an area subject to human rights violation and discrimination: an employer can treat someone as poorly as they want, when someone is subject to deportation if they lose their job

[–] apocalypticat@lemmy.world 13 points 6 days ago

Step 1: be rich

Step 2: bribe the government to do your bidding

Step 3: decimate the workforce of your competitors

Step 4: profit, buy out competition, become "too big to fail"

[–] Carmakazi@lemmy.world 10 points 6 days ago

They will use the newly incarcerated immigrants as slave labor as apportioned by the 13th amendment.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 8 points 6 days ago

Oh that’s where the queers and the democrats come in. Specifically we will be coming in chains

[–] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 8 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

where are you going to find the migrant workers to do all the unpleasant, if not downright dangerous jobs?

Replaced by forced labor.

This is just a reminder/informative comment noting multiple USSC rulings since the 1970s have allowed CBP to violate the First and Fourth Amendments with impunity, as long as they are within 100 miles of an international border. Critically, ports of entry, such as international airports, are legally considered international borders. This means that virtually the entire US population is within 100 miles of a "border".

Reposting my comment again.

Like the German version of Nazis before them, they aren't coming for their biggest target first. They're coming for their political opposition, the "abortionists", the atheists, the drug users, the mentally ill...

RFK Jr.:

"I’m going to create these wellness farms where they can go to get off of illegal drugs, off of opiates, but also illegal drugs, other psychiatric drugs, if they want to, to get off of SSRIs, to get off of benzos, to get off of Adderall, and to spend time as much time as they need — three or four years if they need it— to learn to get reparented, to reconnect with communities,"

Re-education camps, huh.

And all of the military stationed at the border will be turned around to keep people in once Trump moves on from immigrants to trans people, or some other group who will be forced to flee the country to avoid being put in the concentration camps that will be empty and need people to keep the prison companies' profits up.

[–] SirMaple__@lemmy.world 17 points 6 days ago (3 children)

Canuck here.

Doesn't the Posse Comitatus Act prohibit the use of military (other than National Guard and Coast Guard) for this purpose?

I see they can be used but only if the Insurrection Act is invoked (might be other ways but that's the one that came up most frequently in my searches).

It does.

But when none of the checks actually step in to stop it, then what difference does it make?

[–] irotsoma@lemmy.world 7 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Presidents are now immune from prosecution for basically anything they do in an official capacity thanks to the corrupted Supreme Court. So who's going to stop him? Even if Congress makes a new, specific law against it with dire consequences, he's putting loyalists in law enforcement and the courts can't enforce the law when the highest one will overturn any ruling because of that interpretation.

One key problem with using military, in national emergency martial law power, is "put anyone brown looking onto a bus". Don't you carry your citizenship papers on you at all times?

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 8 points 6 days ago (1 children)

If I was brown during the trump presidency I’d carry my passport everywhere for that reason

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 9 points 6 days ago

OK, but you'd still be brown.

[–] randon31415@lemmy.world 10 points 6 days ago (5 children)

My hope is that once all the farm/meat packing workers get deported, we realize that we don't have any food left. After a few months of being vegetarian, the red-meat eating conservatives will back-track and finally open up a legal path for all those workers to be here.

[–] whithom@discuss.online 11 points 6 days ago

They aren’t going to be deported, that’s a logistical nightmare. They will be put into privately own facilities where they will be forced to work.

[–] IamSparticles@lemmy.zip 11 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

Meat won't be the only impacted ag industry. A lot of fruits and vegetables still require hand picking and packing. The only product that is largely automated from start to finish is grain. Maybe potatoes, too.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 7 points 6 days ago

Y'all ever see one of those fuckers admit they were wrong?
