Holy shit that’s only $1kUSD, that’s like nappies for a month.

You need to factor in other economic factors. How much is this in terms of median salary? How much is this in terms of child care costs? Currency conversion is based on how much the currency is worth in the other country.

Per the article, "The payment of 100,000 rubles will be available for both childbirth and adoption. However, if the child dies, the application for the payment will be denied."

Sounds like another attempt to exploit poor/desperate people. More soldiers for the meat grinder.
