The protein point is so incredibly trite. Have these gentlemen ever seen a horse? engels-wut

[–] AcidCommunist@hexbear.net 23 points 1 month ago

Gorillas are more swole than they'd ever think to be lol

[–] GenderIsOpSec@hexbear.net 16 points 1 month ago

literally the first thing they ask, always.

"Buh protein though!??" also "Remember to take your pills to get all that the nutrients you need!"

like goddamn, it's so great how they ask this from all the carnists too. just fuck off, god.

it’s incredibly easy to get ~100g of protein a day in without eating a single animal product. a good amount of tofu in each meal will get you there really quickly.

Someone should make a brand of seitan marketed towards body builders and gym bros. 3x as much protein as beef! How do you beat that.

[–] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 18 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

“Oh? Want to own the libs? Eat seitan! While those soyboys are having their recreational gluten free diet, eat PURE GLUTEN!”

Hitler’s choice: putting the BASED in plant-based.

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 13 points 1 month ago

Told my gym going co worker, I wouldn't call him a gym bro but he's working out about how stupid protein dense seitan is and he's all over it now

[–] sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml 8 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Tf is seitan? How much protein?!

[–] Owl@hexbear.net 14 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (3 children)

Seitan is a food you make by extracting just the gluten from wheat, making a dough of that, kneading the hell of of it, then cooking it. It's 75% protein by mass.

Pure seitan is tough and aggressively bland, but mixing a little of just about anything into the flour fixes both of those. In my opinion, a good seitan recipe has the best texture of any meat.

[–] sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml 11 points 1 month ago (1 children)

thanks comrade. My roommate (and close friend) does bodybuilding, I'll make him some seitan.

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 5 points 1 month ago

It's sort of a building block food, you can really flavor it to taste like just about anything. Vegan place I worked at did seitan donair for example. It's a little tricky to make but after a few tries you'll have it going well

[–] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 8 points 1 month ago

Seconded, I’ve had good seitan before and the texture is all I need from meat. Season it right like any meat and you’re good to go.

[–] ReadFanon@hexbear.net 7 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Worship Seitan!! 🙏

Also use this seitan recipe because nearly every other recipe tells you that you have to knead your seitan until the gluten has developed and then they tell you to steam it or simmer it for 1 hour+.

Fuck that

You don't have to use the same flavouring ingredients though. Mushroom seasoning is really good in it and so is Golden Mountain Sauce but you can use whatever you feel like or what you have on hand such as broth powder. You might need to add a little bit of extra water to compensate though.

True alpha proteinmaxxers eat only soy sausage, which was invented by true conservative chad Konrad Adenauer (yes, that one)

[–] roux@hexbear.net 7 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I forget the brand but I saw a plant-based meal supplement shake the other day at Walmart that was 30g of protein. It was right next to the bourgeois luxury item known as Soylent.

[–] hypercracker@hexbear.net 22 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (2 children)

I know it is toxicly masculine but I've started just challenging "where protein" people to an arm wrestle

I swear people are so fucking obsessed with protein. I have one of those PB2 protein powder shakes after a workout and never think about it otherwise. Like we aren't exactly pro athletes here, maintaining fitness is waaaaaaaay more about consistency and not getting injured (especially as you age) instead of making sure your gymbro macros are on point.

[–] Jenniferrr@hexbear.net 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I like the naked pea protein mass gainers. Very tasty and like 1200 calories lol

[–] hypercracker@hexbear.net 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Oh good rec, I'll try it out!

[–] Jenniferrr@hexbear.net 3 points 1 month ago

I'll be honest it's expensive but it's also the only protein I'll actually drink and finish. With plant based milk it's very tasty though and mild

[–] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 5 points 1 month ago

Based, as soon as I get sexy twunk muscles from bodybuilding it’s going to be all about health and making sure that the rest of my life isn’t a living hell.

[–] SchillMenaker@hexbear.net 20 points 1 month ago (1 children)

You claim to not consume animal products and yet I see you performing beta-oxidation as we speak. Very peculiar.

Also before you say that it's different because you consent, mitochondrion by definition cannot consent.

Debate lords are universal lol

You merely adopted the basement. I was born in it. Molded by it. I didn't see grass until I was already a manchild, by then it was nothing to me but ad hominem.

[–] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 4 points 1 month ago

If there’s one line I learned from vegan sidekick is this: “Why are you putting me under all this scrutiny and no one else?”

I've been asked where I'm going to get my carnosine if I don't eat meat. Like other dipeptides, my body can make it if it needs it, since I get all of the essential amino acids already

[–] muad_dibber@lemmygrad.ml 16 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I've just stopped elaborating anymore, it takes too much energy. When someone asks why are you a vegan, what about X, I just say "many reasons.", "its working out so far".

[–] roux@hexbear.net 6 points 1 month ago

I've found it I say the usual "don't like killing animals or the climate" I get pushback but if I just tell them I have gout, they back off. They even ask if I've had a flair up and get all doughy-eyed when I say I haven't had one in 2 years lol. Idk why it's a surprise when I cut out one of the big 2 major culprits for flair-ups completely and drastically cut out my beer intake which is the other culprit but whatever, they seem to like the answer.

[–] Babs@hexbear.net 11 points 1 month ago

I got health problems after being vegan but then I just did a little research on what I might be missing and how to fix my diet up (holy shit I needed more iron) and now I feel great. It's actually pretty easy and most "health issue" carnists are being babies.

[–] ReadFanon@hexbear.net 9 points 1 month ago

It's enough to make you want to be stranded on a deserted island

[–] sebsch@discuss.tchncs.de 7 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Protein is the most stupid one.

I don't know how this was raised but looking at lentils, beans, soya and saitan and saying you need more protein can't be explained with ignorance anymore.

So many consumers are just brainwashed by decades of false information and advertising campaigns.

[–] AcidCommunist@hexbear.net 3 points 1 month ago

Yeah i think the got milk campaign did a lot of brain breaking, not to mention the Hardee's burger commercials
