I mean, props to him for always keeping it legal?

[–] Duamerthrax@lemmy.world 56 points 3 months ago (3 children)

To be fair, his girlfriend's are probably using him to get access to Hollywood producers. It's likely just a transactional relationship. Not as creepy as the Epstein stuff.

[–] sunzu@kbin.run 36 points 3 months ago (2 children)

At some point society gonna need to allow adult women do adult women choices lol

Optics are sus but who are we to judge them for doing adult people shit.

[–] damnedfurry@lemmy.world 24 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Yeah, the criticism always carries the undertone (at least) of 'oh, those adult women are just too stupid to realize they're being exploited'.

They know very well what they're doing, lmao.

[–] hitmyspot@aussie.zone 4 points 3 months ago (4 children)

Yes, but has it worked? I dont know the names of any of them, which to me implies it has not worked. Is it really always not exploitation if one side is over 18?

There is clearly a power differential and he is using them, even IG it's consentual. There are many consenting mail order brides from poor countries. It doesn't make it ethical.

The imbalanced power dynamic argument is a slippery slope, when it's clearly two consenting adults. Dating someone much lower than your current economic status is an disproportionate power dynamic. Yes, it could lead to someone being at a disadvantage or taken advantage of. Is it a bad idea? Maybe. Is any of this guaranteed? Absolutely by no means.

[–] scutiger@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago (1 children)

It's two consenting adults, and it's perfectly legal, but that doesn't make it any less gross.

[–] wesker@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

So you think it's "gross" for a poor person to date a rich person? For whom, the rich person?

[–] scutiger@lemmy.world 9 points 3 months ago (3 children)

It's gross for a man in his forties to repeatedly date teenagers and to dump them when they turn 25.

[–] frunch@lemmy.world 6 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I agree--it's more the pattern of behavior than if it was an isolated incident. If someone dated someone that much older/younger, i might think that's weird. If they have a steady habit of scooping girls up shortly after becoming "legal" and dumping them after a very specific duration in order to begin the process again with another 18-19 yr old, i would definitely think that's weird.

[–] hitmyspot@aussie.zone -3 points 3 months ago

The word is predatory

[–] Lightor@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Why? If they both want to do it, what is gross about it? Because you don't like it? The same way people call gay couples gross because they don't like it. They're adults, they can do as they like. Anyone who Googles him will know his history, it's not hidden. People need to stop treating women like constant helpless victims.

[–] sunzu@kbin.run 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

There is a lot more gross shit that happens like the Catholic Church clergy raping children...

But some how our society gets fixed on attractive young women banging rich dudes for money as some sort of moral failing and these chicks are too stupid anyway, Right?

This says more about you as a person than the people you are criticizing.

🤡

[–] scutiger@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

More than one thing can be true at once. The Catholic church is known for its disgusting sexual abuse of children. Also Leonardo Dicaprio is gross for his treatment of women.

[–] sunzu@kbin.run 5 points 3 months ago (1 children)

One is a likely one of the worst crimes in human history...

The other is a conseutual relationship between the too adults.

Some how this legal behavior gets more comment section traction than the actual crimes.

Again, this speaks more about our society than Leo paying for pussy.

I thought sex work was all kosher? What the difference here

[–] Lightor@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

Me no like that number have big gap.

That's the only real issue, people not liking other people's choices and judging them for it. A tale as old as time.

I lot of people would date a wealthy movie star just for the feeling of being desirable, and free holidays and stuff.

Fuck when I was 20 if a kinda-hot-for-her-age 49 year old had wanted to exploit me I would've been all over that.

[–] damnedfurry@lemmy.world 7 points 3 months ago

You're assuming name recognition is what they seek. The thrill of fucking a famous person (and one who is conventionally attractive, to boot), and the extravagant lifestyle that naturally comes with dating a wealthy person, are much more obvious 'goals' here, no?

There is clearly a power differential

That doesn't mean anything by itself. There is zero indication these women are entering these relationships against their will.

he is using them

No more than they are using him, if any 'using' is going on at all (which you are merely assuming).

[–] sunzu@kbin.run 1 points 3 months ago

There are many consenting mail order brides from poor countries.

How is this unethical? WTF

[–] Duamerthrax@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago

Oh, I don't really care about this. Just pointing out what's really happening.

[–] Mango@lemmy.world 10 points 3 months ago

Everyone wins!

[–] trashgirlfriend@lemmy.world 7 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Not as creepy as the Epstein stuff.

The bar is at the bottom of the Kola Superdeep Borehole and he just managed to get over it through the Mariana trench.

[–] Duamerthrax@lemmy.world 5 points 3 months ago (1 children)

And I meant it. There's a really good chance that the sort of girl who would date a Hollywood star over twice their age to make connections is the same type who agrees to go to an island run by a greasy mofo. The reason you don't hear about too many first hand accounts is because a lot of the girls were there willing. Or at least as willing as a minor can be.

[–] BCsven@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Thats the thing, the law says minors can't consent even if they said yes. It is still rape

[–] Duamerthrax@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

That's what I said.

[–] wesker@lemmy.sdf.org -5 points 3 months ago

[–] ElJefe@lemm.ee 15 points 3 months ago

He’s going for that apple on a stick look

[–] niktemadur@lemmy.world 12 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Three or four times, sure, sounds like a blast when you're young and rich and famous. But as the age difference starts to show and you're still planted on that exact same carrousel, the same identical cycle over and over again, now you can start to sense a certain... joylessness in the whole thing, something compulsive and stagnant.

While I'm not comparing this to a certain Nabokov character - the age ranges are certainly different - they do share not being able to get past a pattern.

Just out of gossipy curiosity, I wonder how others who move in the same or parallel jet-setting circles as DiCaprio, interact with him, regard him, talk about him. That includes actresses and models in their thirties and forties. They have got to be at least a little creeped out by the repeating cycle, the image of a man-child masked by hollow mirth and surface glamour of a never-ending "Pussy Posse" stance, while mingling at dinner parties in the Caribbean or south of France.

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 9 points 3 months ago

I have a lifelong friend who is very successful, who dates women in their early 20's, despite being in his mid-fourties. Most of us think it's lame. But he at least tries to build relationships with them. He's not the one who has ended the last few relationships. Anyways, I don't like it. I have very little in common with a 22 year old woman. Sure, I can talk to them at parties, and get along just fine, but I wouldn't want to build a life with one.

[–] Reddfugee42@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

I suppose there are lots of people in relationships with people their own age who don't experience any sort of happiness whatsoever.

I'm not going to judge other adults finding some sort of happiness with each other. I'm sure they're each having a good time. Will it last forever? Well, what does?

[–] Louisoix@lemm.ee 7 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Why does he look like Hank Hill now?

[–] Reddfugee42@lemmy.world 6 points 3 months ago

Time still exists even in Hollywood

[–] Audacious@sh.itjust.works 5 points 3 months ago

He showed up on Epstein's list when it first came out.

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

Did you break up with them because they literally turned 21 though? And what's up with that camera? Looks like one I had in 2012.

[–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 1 points 3 months ago

My tumble did this in the last year too.
