The valedictorian of my high school went into stripping rather than starting college. She made money with her looks for a few years and got her degree.

I knew strippers who stayed off drugs and booze, each had their home paid off at 29 and drove new cars.

If you can stay out off the “lifestyle” you can mate a great deal of money.

Freudian slip? Haha

Sex work is work. This person seems to genuinely want to do this so why not?

[–] Assman@sh.itjust.works 13 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Apart from them being a child you mean

[–] Worx@lemmynsfw.com 19 points 6 months ago (1 children)

"after high school" which presumably makes them an adult (although I don't actually know the age of adultship or school in the US)

I'm not advocating for child strippers. But if they wanted to be a bricklayer and ruin their body in a decade, no-one would bat an eye. Sadly, we live in a world where people have to sell their bodies, one way or another, in order to live

Perhaps perform a cursory Google search first? Maybe look before you leap?

I hope it's a boy, just for irony's sake

Apparently Magic City is a real strip club in Atlanta

[–] SkyezOpen@lemmy.world 3 points 6 months ago (2 children)

It doesn't look very magical...

as a local- it's not. it's a concrete cube between two busy roads on the edge of an industrial district.

Inside there are naked ladies and ladies about to be naked - which is why some people go there.

However sometimes rich and famous people also go there.

If just having a naked lady nearby sounds like it blows your mind and is the best thing you can think of to throw all of your money at- you will have a whale of a time

You're better off ironically going to the Claremont Lounge where at least there's an element of burlesque and comedy, and the venue is actually pretty cool to look at.

Morbidly curious, I checked out the website. Even Tinkerbell couldn't bring magic there...

My mom was trying to get her GED in the 90's. She failed, but I found one of her essays in the storage shed once. It was about how 1-900 numbers are bad for society because her nephew ran up a $200 phone bill using one.

It was hilarious. For those of you who are too young to remember, 1-900 phone numbers (at least in the USA) used to be pay-per-minute sex lines. I think there were some joke lines and other things too, but it was mostly phone sex.

And miss Cleo! CALL MEH NAO!

It's a bit sad, because you can clearly tell which parts were written by ChatGPT and which ones she decided to change a bit with her own writing.

The school system failed this student.

~~Roads~~ School? Where we're going, we don't need ~~roads~~ school!

Atlanta really is the city of strippers though. The highest peak being The Claremont Lounge, of course.

I mean, that's fine. We are so weird about the body.

Want to be someone that demonstrates the beauty of the human body in various ways? No problem, gymnasts, ballet dancers, etc are all noble goals.

Want to be someone that creates sexual desire in others with their body? NO NO OMG NO YOU'RE DISGUSTING. SEXUAL DESIRE IS WRONG. Strippers gonna strip. Normalizing these kind of choices and creating a supportive, reasonable environment that also has mechanisms to prevent abuse is the rational, normal response. You can really see how judeo-christian values continue to dominate the world.

Want to give someone pleasure physically with your body? Massage therapy is noble, prostitution is bad. Want to have sex for money? No if you're not recording it, yes if you are.

I'm not, like, affirming all choices for all things or whatever, but we really need to get over some shit in a lot of cultures in this world.

And please, please note: almost all the above examples are about policing how women use their bodies not men.

Post High School plans: try to undo the damage high school did to me. Especially the stuff they stone walled me in while I was there.

As we got to that middle part, I was hoping it was going to turn into a neat critique of the idea of slaving yourself to a job to survive. Just really turning the screws on the idea that 18 year old kids should be planning for a career so they can "thrive" and then... that's the sum total of life's goals. No adventures, no exploring of the self; simply a job and maybe kids. Then it just became a straight faced sad ending.
