The photo is a 1974 photo of Leslie Feinberg, from the FBI file on hir. I've written a piece on my interpretation of Transgender Warriors and Trans Liberation, but I don't think it's quite polished enough, so I'll post it later. Instead, I'll go over hir FBI file: https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/dc-metro/rg-065/6282555/Batch0010/6282555_100-HQ-480756.PDF.

The FBI thought Feinberg could be violating the Communist Control Act, advocating the overthrow of the government, and engaging in rebellion. Needless to say, a hero to all of us. Feinberg was a member of the Workers World Party (the party still exists, but more notably PSL split from it), which apparently wasn't openly advocating for the overthrow of the U.S, they just think it's inevitable.

My favorite line? "captioned subject is believed to be a white female, who became male through some kind of sex change operation, and is possibly homosexual". Some interesting language choice, and it's an interesting snapshot into the evolution of Leslie's identity.

The FBI found Leslie's place of birth and birthdate from public school records. It's a bit of an interesting look into all of the many places the FBI can get their information, along with how information like that was so much more patchwork before the digital age.

"Interview of subject is not being recommended because of the questionable nature of his sexuality". Hmm, interesting.

It's interesting how their investigation spanned multiple cities, from Kansas City to NYC to Bufffalo to Boston. It probably involved quite a few officers, though I'm sure it wasn't the main focus for all of them.

There's some interesting mention about changes in Leslie's gender identity. Born a girl, for a time wearing a beard and mustache, then going back to "she". I'm sure we all know, Feinberg's gender didn't stop evolving there.

"Subject reportedly contributes all extra money to WWP", Leslie definitely was dedicated to the cause. Leslie doesn't attend NYC WWP meetings, but the FBI doesn't mention why.

The FBI isn't immune to typoes, Leslie did some "criminal terspass" that garnered some attention. They wasted some time checking if Leslie was in Boston, but verified where Leslie in NYC lived by pretending to be a part of the Voter Registration Commission.

There's a whole 43 pages of documents, all just from 1974-75. There's plenty of interesting tidbits in there, so maybe check it out.

dumb and kinda depressingUgh it's stressful having such a combative relationship with makeup. I have thought I looked good in makeup once ever, and my ex's mother used way too much bronzer.

That was like eight years ago, and since then I've pretty much flipped out and powerwashed my face any time someone has makeup'd me. Today is a huge landmark I guess because Setting Powder -> Concealer -> Foundation -> Blusher -> Setting Powder actually looks good. It was still stressful because at various points I did wanna freak out and dunk my face in acetone or whatever. Nevertheless I Persevered though and my wife says I look really good. I took some selfies I like okay, very cool.

I just wish I could flip out less, it's weird and obnoxious. Getting makeup applied is actually really fun, why do I have to be like this...

Fuck yeah! Finding a look that you can do easily and reliably that looks good is such a fucking confidence boost lets-fucking-go

Makeup can be so fun but so emotionally hard at the same time. I hope your relationship with it can find a calm harbor to anchor in meow-hug

[โ€“] ashinadash@hexbear.net 6 points 4 months ago (1 children)

spoileryea It does feel nice... This setup basically just mimics my real skin but with less "shadows", more consistent texture, less dark circles. Wife is gonna teach me to do it myself too...

Haha why has no one ever said this to me before, it's so real makeup is a fuckin emotional trial meow-hug

::: spoiler spoiler The number of times ive cried while putting on makeup, and come out of the bathroom feeling utterly unlovable, unfuckable, ugly and wretched was depressing, but with time and practice i got better and now i can do casual makeup that looks good lea-finger-guns I still cant do like full glammy stuff without looking like a clown in really bad drag, but thats ok, i can do the basics and that gets me through my days lea-bounce

[โ€“] ashinadash@hexbear.net 7 points 4 months ago (2 children)

spoilerNot me, I'm always lovable and fuckable no matter what lea-finger-guns But yeah I understand what you mean, it can be disastrous on your self image, ruinous. I do wanna incorporate glitter at some point, orange book reference. "Can you pull off kind of goth like Ally Sheedy in the Breakfast Club? Do you want to?" YES MA'AM I SURE FUCKIN DO!!!

[โ€“] lilypad@hexbear.net 6 points 4 months ago (1 children)

(Sorry! I responded to the wrong comment initially ๐Ÿ˜…, here is where its supposed to go!)

Ugh goth looks are so fucking good!!! And yeah theres a little highlighter/contour double stick thing that i love cause its a little sparkly but not overly so, its from nyx and has two sides to it, but i only ever use the glittery end lol.

more text instructions, might be overwhelming (sorry!!!)When doing eyeliner if you have liquid liner you can kind of "stamp" it on to your eyelid, like rest it on your lashes and gently roll it into your eyelid. That can help with getting it even and whatnot.
^___^

[โ€“] ashinadash@hexbear.net 7 points 4 months ago (1 children)

That's okay โœจ Two sided highlighter countour stick thing with a lil sparkles, from Nyx... I see...

Oh I think I understand that actually, I think I get how that's meant to work, very handy actually. Eyeliner scary...

[โ€“] lilypad@hexbear.net 7 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Eyeliner is terrifying, also because it will look bad the first times you do it. If you have money to spare get yourself a pencil, a gel pot + tiny brush, and a liquid eyeliner. They all handle and apply differently. Everyone said pencils were easy and liquid was hard, but i learned liquid way quicker than pencils (plus imo it looks nicer too). But now i mostly just do tightliner and use a pencil for that so ive gotten a lot better with pencils.

[โ€“] ashinadash@hexbear.net 6 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Yeeeah I'm really ready for that tbh, we have both pencil and liquid eyeliner, as well as tiny brushes if need be. Seeing as my voidstranger wife is a big genius I'm not that worried, but I am pre-gamed to accept failure honestly.

[โ€“] lilypad@hexbear.net 6 points 4 months ago (1 children)

If you expect failure, success feels that much sweeter :)

[โ€“] lilypad@hexbear.net 5 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Also what is this orange book? Is it the nevada book i see people talk about on here sometimes? (Idk anything about anything lol)

[โ€“] ashinadash@hexbear.net 6 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Yes it is Nevada :3 I literally always have an orange book reference, I have to stop myself from making references all the time took-restraint

[โ€“] lilypad@hexbear.net 6 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Ive seen enough people on here ralk about it to know I should read it, but dont know anything about what it is lol

[โ€“] ashinadash@hexbear.net 6 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Nevada is like this: Maria Griffiths is almost 30 and lives in New York and her life sucks, her job sucks, she sucks and she is hopelessly stunted. Someone should do something about it but she mostly is just irresponsible and depressed and angry, which is awesome. If she's lucky she'll be able to share all the knowledge she's gained from her totally authentic punk diy book snob new york life with some goofy twentysomething she meets, soon. It's a lot about her internal monologue, it's a character study and it has the best opening chapter ever basically. It is so good.

[โ€“] lilypad@hexbear.net 6 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Youve sold me, its going on my list lets-fucking-go

I was gonna read "the dyke and the dybbuk" next, but i cant find that one in shops around here so maybe ill read this instead :)

[โ€“] ashinadash@hexbear.net 5 points 4 months ago (1 children)

the dyke and the dybbuk

Oh that actually sounds kinda funny tbh. But Yeah! Nevada is also on a major press now, so I can whole heartedly recommend uh, acquiring it by methods which bypass typical currency exchange :)

[โ€“] lilypad@hexbear.net 5 points 4 months ago

It sounds pretty fun! But i havent been able to find it lea-pout i read the first like 3 pages and it was fun :)

[โ€“] nemmybun@hexbear.net 8 points 4 months ago (1 children)

spoilerSorry that it stressed you out. Makeup is difficult and I've had my own struggles with it. I utterly despised how I looked the first time I put on makeup. I felt more like clownish than attractive. Whenever I tried putting it on, I could wear it like, 10 mins max before I had to scrub it off because it just didn't look right to me. I felt like I could never wear it because it always seemed off.

It took a lot of education and trial-and-error to understand not only how to properly apply it but how to work with my own unique features as no look or method works for everyone. For example, I have hooded eyes so the vast majority of eyeshadow tutorials are worthless for me. They simply do not work with my eye shape. So I had to learn and practice application techniques specific to my eyes to be able to have a look I felt good about.

I still can't wear it super long because even the specially formulated pigments will irritate my eyes after a couple hours but that's a whole other problem.

I'm glad you were able to persevere, I hope you're able to find more looks that you're comfortable with cat-trans

[โ€“] ashinadash@hexbear.net 7 points 4 months ago (2 children)

spoileryea Oh no that's too real, relatable. I guess I feel like my face has a delicate balance of features that is easily knocked off. It does pay to look at it under many different lighting conditions too to see how that plays in. My bathroom is lit like shit.

Hooded eyes gang!!! Can I bug you for some tips? I wanna accentuate my eyes next time. doggy-beg

Thank you, I think I'm doing good now, hopefully this is a wall broken down.

[โ€“] MusicOwl@hexbear.net 8 points 4 months ago (1 children)

My bathroom is lit like shit.

No one looks good in some bathroom lighting. It's almost always hard and creates harsh, unflattering shadows

Can I bug you for some tips? I wanna accentuate my eyes next time.

Absolutely! Any time!

[โ€“] ashinadash@hexbear.net 7 points 4 months ago (2 children)

spoilerGood to know it's not just ours then, also phone cameras are too small, they suck. I used a cheap ring light and the largest-lens phone camera we had to take some pics which are a decent facsimile but not perfect by any measure.

Uh okay what do I need to know to do hooded eyes in makeup terms?? My eyes are very deep set and raccoonlike :3

[โ€“] lilypad@hexbear.net 7 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

makeup talk + advice/idea thingImo all eyes look good tightlined. If you get a lighter shade (or even white) on the inner bit, and black around to the outer corner, it can open your eyes and make them look brighter.

One thing i do for tightlining is tightline from the outer corner in about 1/3 of the way (to the edge of my iris) in black. Then i tightline with white from the outer edge of my iris to the inner edge of my iris (like if you drew a vertical line at the inner- and outermost parts of your iris while looking straight ahead, thats your guide markers).

I had a friend walk me through her eyeliner method; shes asian and has very stereotypical asian eyes, so the eyeliner techniques most websites give dont work for her. My hooded eyes look good using her method imo, which is to mostly close one eye and just draw a straight line outward and extend that little line as though your eyelid doesnt stop. Then she draws the wings onto that extended line instead of onto her eyelid itself.

Also, if you have a subtle highlighter (maybe with some glitter in it), you can put that right at the inner part of your eye by your nose (not actually on your eye, but right next to it) and blend that in, and it brings the eye forward a bit and opens it up (or at least it does for me).

Also, apropos bathroom lighting, if you get it looking halfway decent in the bathroom mirror, itll look good out and about, generally speaking. If you get it looking good in the bathroom mirror, then youre fucking bulletproof lets-fucking-go

[โ€“] ashinadash@hexbear.net 7 points 4 months ago (2 children)

spoilerOkay thank you, but also text stuff is so confusing bocchi-glitch I give up lol. I am gonna ask wifey what this all means.

I like that about bathroom lighting though lol, good barometer I guess... I now walk around and try different lighting conditions when doing makeup though, helps I find.

[โ€“] lilypad@hexbear.net 5 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Theres tons of video tutorials out on the internet!! But it also sounds like your wifey can translate from words into locations and actions badeline-heh

[โ€“] nemmybun@hexbear.net 7 points 4 months ago (1 children)

spoilerOkay so the main problems with makeup and hooded eyes is that when our eyes our open, we can't really see our lids, and so anything we try to do just gets creased up and hidden. So any looks that extend eyeshadow out to above our lids will work for us. Also we need to be careful with how much pigments we apply and where, since it's super easy to add it in a way that looks heavy and makes our eyes smaller. So we balance this with the use of whites/lighter shadows in certain places to make out eyes look wider. this is the technique I used last time and I think it turned out great:

  • Add white eyeshadow (or your lightest neutral color) underneath your brow, starting at about the middle and going outwards. Also add some to the inner corner of your eye. You can also add some to the lower lid if you want.
  • Starting at about the halfway mark of your eyelid, lightly place your eyeshadow onto your lid going outward. Then place it above your eyelid, up to that highlight you added under your brow.
  • Add a lighter color (I usually just use white) to the inner half of your eye lid and under brow.
  • Blend out the eyeshadow outwards for a smoky look, and blend the eyeshadow at the midpoint to merge the colors
  • Liner looks are great for us, this is a good skill to practice. I generally prefer mascara on upper lashes only but that's something to experiment with

I'll see if I can find a Tiktok or photo in a bit, as it's probably easier to understand visually.

[โ€“] ashinadash@hexbear.net 8 points 4 months ago (2 children)

spoiler

it's super easy to add it in a way that looks heavy and makes our eyes smaller.

Ooh ooh this explains so much!!!!

Yeah I had a really bad time following this... I did just watch wifey do eyeliner which was kind of mesmerising, my voidgoblin is unnaturally good at eyeliner imo. I wish to have a fraction of that skill someday, incredible. Liner is awesome for hooded eyes. I do wanna mess around with mascara too :3 thank you for the info.

[โ€“] lilypad@hexbear.net 7 points 4 months ago

::: spoiler spoiler Mascara rocks! For mascara they have stuff that forms little tubes around your eyelashes so it comes off super easy with some warm water, it tends to work well for me :) Also they sell little comb like things that you can use to un-clump the mascara if it gets too thick/clumpy :)

[โ€“] nemmybun@hexbear.net 7 points 4 months ago (1 children)

spoilerYeah I probably should've just found an actual guide to begin with lol. Something you can try is search for "eyeshadow for hooded eyes" in tiktok and look for someone with eyes close to yours. I hate tiktok but it's where all the contemporary makeup tuts are these days.
