I'm not saying I disagree with that position. I'm saying that Democrats mostly disagree with that position.

Not sure about how they think about universal healthcare and unionization. It's hard to believe those are core issue for them if they're willing to vote republican like this.

And I can add to that list not caring about immigrants or minorities more than the bare minimum. Or about helping students financially.

It seems to me that a lot of people are confused about what "supporting the working class" would actually mean.

It wouldn't mean that the working class would start thinking like Democrats. It will mean that Democrats will start thinking like the working class. Think about the implications, they're not all what you want them to be.

Probably worth it, though.

The US middle class is diminished somewhat over a long period of time, not "killed". 1971 was 61%, 2021 50%. And the movement from middle class has been upwards and downwards.

Blind Fury (1989) was my guilty pleasure. 6.3/10 on imdb.

Contains a death scene like Darth Maul's but predating it by 10 years.

Trump brilliantly figured out the best ways to get votes, and it worked. He has no reason to do anything he promised because either he just stops democracy (I don't think so) or goes away in 4 years and is not allowed to run again -- either way, he doesn't need to care that much about popularity. The number one reason he wanted to become president was to get immunity from the numerous crimes he had done.

That's why I think the tariffs are not going to happen. It would directly hurt the richest corporations. Why would they do it? Because they promised to? Okay

If we hypothize that we're already in a sort of cyberwar where different nations apply these platforms to influence the people of other nations to their selfish gains, TikTok can be thought of being the enemy whereas Youtube/FB/even Twitter are sort of friendly.

Or well, that's how it should be, but in the real world all of these platforms are used by the enemy to influence us. With TikTok they just hold all the levers.

This analysis on Tildes was spot on: https://tildes.net/~health.mental/1jwf/american_election_mental_health_thread#comment-e0uw

Perhaps if we had embraced the working class whites 20 years ago, things would be different today. Perhaps we could have working and lower class folks of all backgrounds voting for abortion rights, women's rights, labor rights, and gay rights. Maybe they would be our most loyal allies. But instead, we abandoned them and let the wolves pretend to be their friends.

We would eventually crush Russia in a real war, the problem is that without going to actual war, we get to use only a small part of that.

Trump's point about NATO countries needing to adhere to the funding that was agreed with mutually is a good one and I'm super confused why he was ridiculed about it when he said it. I mean, what's the point of the alliance if we don't do the things we agree to do?
