I've added a tip to the post, cheers. The same thing happened to me on mobile browser.

Maybe consider a sticky post so that everyone knows to go into their profile settings and select BOTH English and Undetermined by holding down Ctrl (command key on Mac)? Or sticky this one and I'll add an update to the bottom.
You can have both! I think you need to hold ctrl or alt or something and select English and Undetermined. I saw it in a post somewhere but I've lost it now. I agree the double negative is very confusing! Glad you've seen this post.
I totally understand what you're saying but 'Undetermined' does not equal Not English. There are many posts and comments written in English that we might not be seeing (hence my post) because English was not selected by the OP. 'Undetermined' is the default when posting, unless you manually select something else.
I'm glad it's worked out for you but since it's mentioned in the documentation by Lemmy and it's literally written on the settings page, it seems to me like it's something that needs looking into.
I don't think it's anything to do with caching. It specifically says in settings and in the Lemmy documentation that if you don't select Undetermined, you won't see a lot of content. This isn't about posting or commenting it's about being able to see content. To be honest I am clueless about it all but it's not ideal if we can't see content on other instances / communities. I just felt it was worth bringing attention to in case it is an issue.
No, that's the whole point of this post. At present, with an account on feddit.uk we can only select English, there is no other option, not even Undetermined.
I don't know how it works, honestly. I just noticed that a lot of the time I can't see posts / comments on external instances because of this Undetermined language issue and I think it needs figuring out by Tom so I made the post. I realise that this instance is only a few days old so it takes time to set up!
If posting via the desktop or mobile webpage, I think you need to select English in the language drop down under the text box. I was having the same issue with my comments hanging but after selecting English they went fine. Within Jeroba I don't know, sorry.
Yes to the hay fever although it's not really my eyes, it's my nose, throat and inner ears. It's driving me nutty! Antihistamines make me feel rough as hell too, so it's either don't take them and suffer or do take them and suffer in a different way. I'm all for councils doing a bit of rewilding and I really want the bees to be safe, but I will moan about the pollen.
Also, the twat across the road leaves his poor dog outside 24/7 all year round. It barks incessantly day and night, howls at every siren and generally sounds like a very unhappy dog. It's upsetting.
I can kind of understand where they’re coming from. To register with their instance you need to be approved, they obviously have it set up like that for a reason - to weed out nuisances/trolls etc. They want a ‘safe place’. With the explosion of new lemmy users, they have tons of people accessing and posting in their communities without having to be registered / approved and it probably feels quite overwhelming for an already-established instance to be ‘ambushed’ in a sense. It was probably manageable before the reddit evacuation but I imagine it’s pretty crazy right now. It’s frustrating if you want to contribute to their communities though, for sure. No option but to register within their instance and wait to be approved for the time being.
This is a very good point. @tom@feddit.uk Is it possible for you to enable other languages for our users who are not natively English (someone below mentions being from Denmark) or who are multilingual / want to see posts in other languages? Each user individually can select whatever languages they want from the list, and will then be able to see posts across Lemmy in those languages.
