The existence of water on Mars has long been a subject of curiosity and debate. A recently published study presents compelling evidence of ancient “wave ripples” in rocks that were shaped by Martian water and winds billions of years ago.

These ripples, imprinted on the Martian surface, speak to a time when shallow bodies of water were open to the Martian air.

TikTok in the US is no longer using Chinese parent company ByteDance’s content delivery network (CDN) following its temporary shutdown over the weekend.

Network observability firm Kentik noted that, when the site returned on Sunday following a 14-hour outage, all traffic was being routed via third party CDNs only. This could be a move to avoid sanctions under a new law which is set to ban the app from the US.

What I want, what we all should want, is for the opposing party to at least come to the table with a) defensible positions e.g. I think we should spend our taxes on Y because X NOT "Trans are icky and need to be silenced" something akin to the (facade) of conservatives of ol'

And b) come to the table with at least an open mind

I don't see any of that happening with conservatives nearly all the time and I have never seen anyone change a conservatives mind anywhere online. Like I said in another reply, I see it all the time, people on the left do engage with them. Presenting hard data, graphs, solid good sources, well structured arguments in all manner of lengths, all to be hand waved away by the Excuse of the Day™️

Once I was in a Reddit thread (might be Lemmy) awhile back where an expert deprogrammer had chimed in, according to them the only real way (their actual post was much more detailed, I wish I could find it again) to get to a conservative was IRL, through various means that boiled down to (heavy paraphrasing) reconnecting them with a "sense of belonging" in their local community. I specifically asked them how one could do it online, and was told that it's essentially a fools errand.

And now trying on conservatives I know IRL, they were right, it's fucking hard even when you have direct IRL access

There is simply too much disassociation online.

A global team has made a significant advance in understanding how bacterial plasmids contribute to antibiotic resistance.

Their findings reveal a complex mechanism involving the proteins KorB and KorA, which could lead to innovative treatments to weaken drug-resistant bacteria.

+1 VLC will dutifully try to play even corrupted to hell files that any other media player would just fail with some form of "can't play, file is corrupt"

It actually harms Google a little in regards to trademark if it becomes a common verb.

Same thing nearly happened to Xerox, people used Xerox to mean "make a copy" so much they nearly lost the trademark to it

least pirate it.

Don't gotta tell me twice lmao

It's a shame really, Sony is one of the last of the prolific single player AAA producers, everyone else seems intent on shoveling multi-player crap out and maybe doing SP as an after thought:(

Yea, I was told that in 196, I remade it and reposted it in the better format, the other in 196 was removed, but since this one has some good comments under it I'd prefer to leave it

[–] cm0002@lemmy.world 4 points 11 hours ago

The load balancing bit was mostly a joke, Im not calling for Lemmy posters to have a CCNA LMAO, but it doesn't hurt to spare an extra second or 2 when you're in the community search drop down on the posting screen

[–] cm0002@lemmy.world 14 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

This is for when there are multiple comms across instances, for example there's !science@mander.xyz and !science@lemmy.world and a .ml version

Same with !memes@sopuli.xyz !memes@lemmy.world and the .ml version

If your interest is in science, it costs you nothing to post to mander.xyz's version and is a cheap contribution to the overall health of the Fediverse

If the only version of a comm is on .world, that's fine, that's not what the meme is about (though if it's on the Tankie Triad, I'd encourage you to create your own community on your home instance, which also contributes to your home instances growth)

[–] cm0002@lemmy.world 0 points 13 hours ago

Perhaps you're right, I thought about it and remade it into a different format and reposted it

[–] cm0002@lemmy.world 1 points 14 hours ago

While that's admirable, you gotta tailor your "calls to action"s (ig is what they're called") to where you're at.

Here on Lemmy the biggest issues are the tankies, posting about people not buying from Amazon or posting on FB on Lemmy isn't really effective because most of the people here already likely do that. Those kinda posts would be more effective in someplace like Reddit where that's far more common and Tankies are far less common

While scrolling to find my posts on lemmy.film to crosspost elsewhere I checked in on some posts on !startrek@possumpat.io and apparently possumpat.io is shutting down soon to :(
