I don't know that it's that big a factor, people can connect in different ways, but it can certainly be a spring board for getting to know someone and make a connection.

joining the fediverse to bitch about reddit is the same as going on a date, and spending the whole night talking about your ex in c/showerthoughts@lemmy.world

The issue is that the mainline GOP doesn't want to weed the Nazis in their midst, because elections are too close to afford the loss of their votes and the sympathizer votes.
