Attend the 1934 Nuremberg rally.

Not keen on the politics of it obviously but you can't deny the nazis knew how to put on one hell of a spectacle.

Do your cats get along? I imagine mine would hate another cat being in the house. He sleeps on his own during the day, most of the time. But if I'm doing something important he seems to pick up on it and the curiosity kicks in. When darkness falls however, I must sit on the sofa for lap snoozing, lest I be shrieked at incessently.

Wouldn't be too bad. I use Keepass for my bookmarks and most of my accounts with the database synced by Syncthing. If Syncthing and all of my devices also went down it'd be a pain but I'd have a fairly recent copy of the database which I backup to a pen drive I always keep with me. I'd have to spend a day logging into my accounts and updating the email but then I'd probably go back to just using Keepass from my pen drive and backing up to a second one like I used to until I found another solution for syncing it.

Good, it's crap.

I've been considering switching to Arch for my desktop. Is it worth it? Did you use anything else on desktop before switching?

[–] Aggravationstation 13 points 6 days ago

Oh you simply must!

[–] Aggravationstation 4 points 6 days ago

But can you still order it online?

Can confirm. I'm a Debian user and use a Cuisinart grind and brew I've had for ages. It's actually the second of two of the same model after the first broke following years of loyal service.

"Two Dozen and One Greyhounds"

S06E20

"He's got the precious cable TV cable!"

See, I think about weird stuff.

Sat behind me at the cinema was a mother and two teenage girls having a conversation amongst themselves (with mostly Mother talking) and kicking the back of the seats.

Mother goes for a pee. The kids aren't talking but at least one of them was still kicking the seats. I ask them "Please stop kicking the back of my chair" They do, all good.

Mother comes back, conversation resumes. I ask Mother "can you please shut up". She gives a half hearted fake apology.

Daughter then tells Mother I spoke to her.

"Did you speak to my child?"

"Yes I did, I asked her to stop kicking the back of my chair."

"But that's ridiculous, my chair is the one behind yours..."

"Well someone behind me was kicking the chairs, I felt it and asked them to stop."

"My god, are you that sensitive?"

"Apparently so."

"Oh well make sure you don't get too scared watching the scary movie."

Conversation between them didn't end I just couldn't be bothered arguing further.

Movie ends, I think "I'm going to get an earful off this woman" so leave as soon as the credits start to roll.

As I'm leaving I hear Mother come out and say "excuse me". I'm assuming she meant me, she was speaking to a girl behind the counter. I start to walk away. I then hear Mother say that a man abused her 14 year old daughter in there.

Counter-girl rightly had a horrified look on her face because of the liberal use of the word "abused". I walk over and said "that would be me" and explain what I said to Daughter. Counter-girl then calls over her manager.

I let Mother speak to Manager and then explain my side.

Manager says something like "this is just a cinema" clearly can't be bothered with this and I don't blame him.

Mother asks if there's CCTV in the screen, Manager says no. Then Mother walks away calling me a "bully" and a "horrible man". I leave also.

So, AMITA?

Floor and tables deffo hadn't been cleaned all weekend.

I just re-watched TNG "In Theory" (S04E25) and Data says that the door to his quarters is set to only allow humanoids to enter or leave when Geordie finds Spot in the hall.

Whilst I get that it would be dangerous for Spot to wander the ship freely I think it's kind of mean to keep him locked in a small room like that forever. There doesn't seem to be any cat toys in the room but maybe the computer is capable of some sort of environmental enrichment we can't immediately see.

Lab grown meat already exists. The same processes could easily make human meat without harming the human.

I'm fairly certain this will at some point lead to a social media fad of people trying, well, people. It seems like every possible stupid action has already been turned into one at this point https://eu.app.com/story/news/world/2024/03/07/what-is-tiktok-chroming-trend/72879475007/

Onlyfans creators already sell stuff like toenail clippings and bathwater https://kotaku.com/belle-delphine-onlyfans-paypal-pornhub-bath-water-1851491916

Wouldn't be difficult to imagine people buying meat made of their favourite creator. What they do with it is between them and their god.

"Do you really want to eat Bella Thorne's ass? Well, for just $19.99 you can fry up a small part of it!"

Tobacco companies had to own up to the fact that smoking is harmful in the 1960s when undeniable evidence came out. People struggled to quit because it is somewhat addictive, but mainly because they enjoyed it.

Those companies then encouraged the rhetoric about it being more addictive than heroin. It isn't. In my experience it's less addictive than caffeine.

Here's my history with nicotine:

  • Smoked cigarettes from 15 - 26.
  • Quit totally for 14 months
  • My friend who smoked moved back to town and I smoked when I was with them.
  • Switched to vaping 8 years ago.
  • Quit vaping in January this year (2024).

I bought 30 cigars at the start of last month (April 2024) and have smoked 9 of them so far. I normally just have 1 a week if I'm having a beer at home but I went out drinking 2 nights in a row at the start of this month and smoked 6 over that weekend.

Am I addicted? Maybe, but I haven't had any nicotine this week and don't plan on having any next week either.

Eternity's thumbnail error sometimes yields interesting results.

I get why American states have capitals but why do American children have their ability to remember them all tested?

Seems like a pointless exercise to fill time and I can't find any explanations about this when Googling.

I can't imagine a scenario where that information could be useful. Even before the internet people could just look them up if they really needed to know them.
