That is totally valid, some of this shit is pretty bonkers
8-person DDR MMO
This is the funniest description of FF14's cooldown mechanics and the way inputting attacks and rotations feels.
High-end raiding is literally memorizing the “chart” and executing, times 8, and repeatedly going at it until you get it. Some people (myself included) really like this style of gameplay; the most apt comparison is to a rhythm game imo.

Oh absolutely I'm not saying that you're wrong. It's just very funny.
You could do a minigame where the cooldowns scroll down the screen and come off cooldown the moment they reach your skill bar and it would literally be ddr.

It's such a good game! Unfortunately MMOs enable bad habits for me so I had to give it up
is this related to the comic?
The game is not at all - but it has plenty of anime cat girls and I could not think of a fun title.
Oh I literally just started it a few weeks ago. I'm almost at level 50!
I finally got over my social anxiety to do random duty roulettes. It probably didn't help I play tank, but it went well as you would expect. Hopefully I can keep that up in the future because I think it would be helpful to fighting the anxiety in general.
Tank anxiety is very real, especially for bosses imo. But after a while you learn what you can and can’t get away with, and whenever I tank an instance, bungle it and die or something I just laugh it off. Most people are understanding; it’s far more likely in this game than others of its kind. How exciting, you’ve got a whole epic ahead of you and it gets better and better.
edit to say my offer for companionship to help you through content or pester you about your storythoughts is open to you, as well, lol.
I'll be sure to let you know if I have any story thoughts I need to yell at someone :p I honestly wasn't paying much attention to the plot until recently
level 30~ i think msq quest spoiler
when a lot of the scions died and they had me move their corpses. i was not expecting that.
im also probably going to make a post here when i want to join an FC or something cos it'd be nice if there are any comrades who i could play with, but since i have no intention to pay for the game until i have to that wont be for a whileee
Aww man that scene is such a gut punch. And the guy driving the cart doesn't care he just wants you to hurry up and load it. FFXIV has a lot of dark world-building, but the WOL kinda gets insulated from it by making friends with the nobility everywhere they go.
Heyyy I've been playing! Currently still trying to catch up to current content, almost done with Stormblood. I enjoyed Heavensward a lot but Stormblood is kind of dragging for me. Eager to get to Shadowbringers soon, I've heard its by far the best expansion
Yes! Narratively, Heavensward was incredible and Stormblood is pretty much a wet fart in comparison but sets up everything afterward so it’s a necessary slog. The patch content features one of my favorite bosses, though. Shadowbringers is without a doubt the best the game has ever been in more ways than one. Let me know if you’d like a friend to eagerly :3c as you progress, or to help with content, and I’m there.
Of course I'm keen on a new friend to play/chat with! What data center are you on? ^^
I play on Aether, but I’ve got alts on all of the NA data centers.
I am unfortunately on an EU data center >< Specifically Chaos. I live in NA but started playing FF14 to join an EU friend. One day I'll probably make an alt on an NA datacenter when I'm caught up on MSQ, though. Fwiw I'll still :3c you about my progress if you want lol
Aw shucks! Is the ping okay for you? I feel like that might drive me a little mad
my ping is normally sub 100, and I have XIVAlexander installed to allow me to double weave with a slightly high ping. Hasn't been an issue for me so far, but I'm not exactly doing Savage raids or anything yet
I quit after endwalker msq otherwise i would have loved to play with some comrades
I learned that I lean like one of the fem highlander idle poses and it's made me happy ever since. I can be sufficiently sassy and strong as shit in my dragoon gear and it makes me feel COOL.
Unfortunately I'm stuck on one of the post-EW MSQ trials thanks to social/performance anxiety . I'm starting to think world of warcraft pve "community" has done untold amounts of mental damage on me lol
triggered my graphics card firmware bug unfortunately or i would have played through it with my friends a few years ago when they got really into it. seemed very fun though.
I burned out after ARR grinding tribal quests.
I have been wanting to try it but I am confused by one thing. I know there is an option for free trial. But there is a starter edition listed like so:
Starter Edition
30-day free play period*
Includes 3 award-winning titles:
[Base Game] A Realm Reborn
[Expansion Pack] Heavensward
[Expansion Pack] Stormblood
Rs 1,248
Why does it say 30-day free play period? Do I have to buy a subscription after that? I couldn't find anything about the asterisk on the page anywhere.
Yes, the game has a $15 monthly fee, but getting any copy of the game gets you 30 days free with it.
That's unfortunate. At least there is a free trial.
I love this game but haven't played in a while, I would love to join a lemmy linkshell or something because my old group is deeeeeeaaaaaad and has been for a while
I sometimes have a group that I play with who do raiding/rp pretty regularly but I am off and on with them depending on what they’re doing at any moment. I am on Aether data centers as I mentioned in another comment; if you ever have interest in playing again you are more than welcome to put some of my telephone orbs in your ear holes.
I've been playing FFXI recently and once I clean out all the content, I'm gonna hop into XIV for the first time. Pretty excited.
I'm gonna be a bunny boi tho
4k hours checking in. Been trying to get a UWU clear with a static but the landslides have been rough. Also somehow Eureka hasn't been annoying me as much so I'm finishing a couple more weapons.
And let me tell you, the DDR comparison is apt, specially when doing ultimates. You can easily count your gcds between mechanics and plan your cooldowns around it.
I am for better or worse married to PF and I dread when the time comes for ultimates. I like being able to prog on my own incredibly manic or anemic schedules; herding cats is a skill on its own.
PFing ultimate is definitely doable, so long as you have a lot of time to wait for fills and tons of patience.
I haven't played much lately because I finished many of the grinds that interested me and I'm not good enough for savage raids
