They can't ban Israel, that would be "political" (banning Russia was a no-brainer tho)

[–] SteamedHamberder@hexbear.net 40 points 6 months ago

Eurovision is the cultural arm of nato-cool

[–] dkr567@hexbear.net 44 points 6 months ago (3 children)

Isntreal and being in Europe... LOL these people love saying quiet parts out loud

[–] Teekeeus@hexbear.net 29 points 6 months ago

So is US aircraft carrier no. 2 aus-delenda-est

[–] reaper_cushions@hexbear.net 25 points 6 months ago (1 children)

I mean, Azerbaijan is part of Eurovision, too.

You get to be part of eurovision if you are in Europe or doing ethnic cleansing. Them's the rules.

[–] kickit@hexbear.net 4 points 6 months ago

pedant mode to say it's not called Eurovision because it's for Europe, Eurovision is the name of the television network (hence Israel/Azerbaijan/Australia)

calling it the Channel Six Song Contest would be the same thing

[–] Dirt_Owl@hexbear.net 40 points 6 months ago

Remembering that time at Eurovision when Ukraine got the pity win and the lead singer shouted "Slava Azov!"

[–] AcidMarxist@hexbear.net 35 points 6 months ago (3 children)

They really say the quiet part outloud by letting isntrael compete in a contest called "Eurovision"

[–] BynarsAreOk@hexbear.net 17 points 6 months ago

Americans when they name their sportsball finals the "World championship".

[–] SteamedHamberder@hexbear.net 15 points 6 months ago (2 children)

We have this discussion every year It’s because of the tv network they’re on. aus-delenda-est is an occasional contestant and 🇱🇧🇲🇦 have been on it to.

Yeah, but it's not like they've historically been a part of EBU. They are the newest member, only joining in 2017.

edit: only sorta true

[–] Barabas@hexbear.net 11 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (1 children)

They've been in it since the 50s, just that they relaunched their public broadcaster in 2017.

[–] oscardejarjayes@hexbear.net 8 points 6 months ago

Oh yeah, you're right.

[–] IMF_DOOM@hexbear.net 2 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

iirc there was some posturing about kicking out britain after brexit though

edit: i looked it up and i think it was actually just right wing tabloids trying to claim that the big scary EU was trying to bully britain over it leaving but it was basically invented out of thin air

[–] Egon@hexbear.net 5 points 6 months ago

Australia is also in it

I'll keep up my praxis of giving zero shits about this clown show

[–] Adkml@hexbear.net 9 points 6 months ago

The only principled boycott America has ever participated in, even accidently.

[–] iByteABit@hexbear.net 29 points 6 months ago (2 children)

I'm calling from now that Israel will win with a very emotional, musically bland song about "terrorists" and hostages

eu-cool

[–] MarxusMaximus@hexbear.net 11 points 6 months ago

Their song is about October 7 but they've been asked to tone down the lyrics and while originally saying they would refuse they've now agreed to do it. They'll engage in genocide but don't even have the spine to stand up to spineless Europe.

[–] SoyViking@hexbear.net 7 points 6 months ago

Alternatively:

  • A German love song to "Israel"
  • Someone from the Reddit belt with an upbeat song about slaying the Russian orcs
  • A terf islander singing about how she wants a man who is not woke
[–] Hestia@hexbear.net 28 points 6 months ago

I've never paid attention to Eurovision.

But I'll boycott them even harder this year.

[–] NuraShiny@hexbear.net 15 points 6 months ago (1 children)

This will be the easiest boycott ever, Eurovision is terrible and I have never cared.

[–] Egon@hexbear.net 15 points 6 months ago

Eurovision has always been terrible, which is why I've followed it religiously.

[–] PaulSmackage@hexbear.net 14 points 6 months ago

I'm gonna be watching Corner Späti's Gyrovision instead.

Look, you might not like this Eurovision, but it's the Eurovision we have, and you have to vote. If you don't vote for the Austrians, then the Ukrainians or the Israelis will win, and that's just much worse. Abstaining does nothing, abstaining is a vote for Israel. I don't like it, you don't like, but that's just the way it is.
Next year we can focus on doing good, but right now we need to vote out the fascists. And honestly there's some fine songs this year, don't let perfect be the enemy of good.

[–] UmbraVivi@hexbear.net 10 points 6 months ago

I used to love Eurovision but over the last three years, as I slowly turned into the Joker, I just can't be bothered with it anymore

[–] screwthisdumbcrap@hexbear.net 9 points 6 months ago (2 children)

I'm still mad about Sweden winning last year. My boy Käärijä was robbed.

[–] IMF_DOOM@hexbear.net 5 points 6 months ago

the serbian twink also got robbed smh

[–] keepcarrot@hexbear.net 5 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Oh, I thought Ukraine was supposed to win until the war was over. I don't pay attention to it

[–] Egon@hexbear.net 3 points 6 months ago

You o ly get one free Eurovision win when you're having a war, otherwise Europe would be in flames

[–] grandepequeno@hexbear.net 9 points 6 months ago

Am portuguese, never cared about this shit and only had to pretend I did when salvador sobral won in 2017

[–] HumanBehaviorByBjork@hexbear.net 6 points 6 months ago
