He was first arrested in 2015 but was released after several members of his group testified on his behalf.

Ah yes! Let’s ask what his brainwashed cultists think about him and evaluate the case based on what they say!

Either the judge didn’t care or is a fucking dumbass.

I'm pretty sure this was the premise of "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt".. right?

Well he did have a beard and I assume this Rabbi did as well.

When I was a kid, my grandmother worked at one of the Catholic churches where the priest had been accused of sexually abusing children. I had been to this church, shaken this man's hand.

During this time, my grandma appeared on the news, wildly pleading, "He's a good man! He did nothing wrong!" I remember my father's crazed laughter as he manically searched for a VHS tape to record the scene.

What in the actual fuck

[–] Mycatiskai@lemmy.ca 20 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Are you sure he isn't a Catholic priest?

Never mind he went to court at least. It seems that of all the horrors he didn't rape them or the ones that he did were the ones too scared to testify.

Religion poisons everything.

I am about sick of people singling out Catholics; not because Catholics are innocent, but because it's religious institutions, in general. Cat's are not the first or worst, it's time to stop pretending they are.

They are the butt of the jokes but others are just as guilty of abuse both sexual, physical, and mental.

Muslim Imams rape young boys. Christian youth pastors sexually assault children in their charge. In my opinion the only difference is that Catholics have designed a worldwide network to move abusers around, knowing they would assault and rape again.

Catholics have designed a worldwide network to move abusers around

This is the reason ~~Could~~ Catholics get singled out. They actively work against efforts to punish the abusers or correct the behavior. When youth pastors are caught, there are repercussions.

The southern baptist convention, mormons, and scientologists all do the same shit as the catholics

[–] Maeve@kbin.social 2 points 8 months ago

I call bs. I've read plenty of articles that offenders repented so were welcomed back to the same church, often in the same capacity.

[–] dylanmorgan@slrpnk.net 1 points 8 months ago

Protestants aren’t better in this respect. If they had the infrastructure they would also move abusers around to protect them. If the only reason someone doesn’t commit mass murder is a lack of means, that doesn’t make them a moral person, it makes them immoral and thankfully incapable.

[–] Maeve@kbin.social 2 points 8 months ago

Ok I accept the reasoning here. Thank you

[–] afraid_of_zombies@lemmy.world 6 points 8 months ago (1 children)

I guess they get singled out because the church did it "better" than anyone else did. The numbers of kids who were raped is staggering, in some places over a percent of the children were of the total population.

[–] Maeve@kbin.social 1 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Then give the victims voice and credit for being the ones who spoke up, because religious institutions existed before Christianity. Go see what the old testament says makes rape of kids ok, eg.

[–] afraid_of_zombies@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago

Yeah other religions dabbled in horror but Christianity was the GOAT. You don't rule 5.5 out of the 6 habitable continents by being nice, you do it by making sure everyone who disagrees is murdered.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 4 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Indeed, this is not about this or that faith. It is about power. Wherever people have power over other people, abuse happens. Faith is just one of many possible ways.

[–] Maeve@kbin.social 2 points 8 months ago

Yea, and pedos patrón themselves in authority/trust roles with access to kids.

Religion of peace and humane values...

[–] Nudding@lemmy.world 6 points 8 months ago

No religion is peaceful. No religion preaches humane values.
