No, a mouse would just let you control the camera. You'll need keyboard for movement.

[–] mrgreen@feddit.de 79 points 10 months ago (3 children)

No you have to install a USB Steering wheel of course or at least a Gamepad.

[–] corus_kt@lemmy.world 85 points 10 months ago (3 children)

I know it's a great gamepad, but if I see someone steering my bus with a F710 I'm getting out of there.

Why are its nipples so hard

[–] RealFknNito@lemmy.world 11 points 10 months ago

Hard nipples give better accuracy

Even if they had the custom 3D printed joysticks?

[–] rockerface@lemm.ee 26 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I'm going to plug a dance pad

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 14 points 10 months ago

Each arrow sets off the hydraulics for the corresponding wheel.

[–] neo@feddit.de 8 points 10 months ago

A mouse is all you need. One key to accelerate, one to break, the mouse wheel for shifting - move the mouse to steer.

True gamers play iRacing with a mouse only! :)

[–] psy32nd@lemmy.world 48 points 10 months ago

What kind of rubbish joke is this?? Noooo.. you will need a joystick for that.

[–] TragicNotCute@lemmy.world 44 points 10 months ago

Top tier title.

I was actually impressed when I took a bus across state lines in the U.S. recently.

Someone was complaining about the charger on their seat not working.

Turns out that the driver has full control of the power to the USB ports on the bus and can turn them off and on at will... and they apparently they turn them off BY DEFAULT.

If someone WERE to figure out a way to get from the USB port in the seats to the CAN Bus on the vehicle itself, having a hard-wired physical switch that cuts power/signal to the ports is potentially a fairly effective security measure as long as there's not a memory buffer you can compromise and run stuff from.

[–] Bonehead@kbin.social 65 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (2 children)

The real question is...why are the data lines connected to anything in these chargers, let alone connected to the CAN Bus? There's no need for security if you just don't have access. Something tells me either the company doesn't like their customers, or the bus driver was just a dick.

[–] PopcornPrincess@lemmy.world 8 points 10 months ago

Why not both?

[–] Mongostein@lemmy.ca 7 points 10 months ago

Or it might just automatically turn them off when so fools aren’t draining the battery without the bus running.

[–] herrvogel@lemmy.world 18 points 10 months ago (2 children)

I very much doubt there's any sort of workable data connection between the CAN bus and those sockets. The mechanism that lets the driver switch them on or off at will doesn't necessarily have to connect those things to anything but a power rail.

[–] Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 10 months ago

i really wish school just had a day where they covered how a USB port works, showing how you can literally just cut all but the power cables to limit things to charging only

[–] Kiernian@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

That would be the SMART way to do things, yes.

One can hope.

[–] TseseJuer@lemmy.world 15 points 10 months ago (1 children)

this is dumb there is 100% no data connection to those

[–] MaxVoltage@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

this dude hasnt been awake on adhd meds for 4 days and it shows

[–] OhStopYellingAtMe@lemmy.world 19 points 10 months ago

To disembark passengers, click and drag them to the exit door(s).

[–] tias@discuss.tchncs.de 18 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (2 children)

The idea of putting my device into that gives me about the same icky feeling as putting my dick into random holes I find.

[–] austinfloyd@ttrpg.network 6 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Yeah, definitely don't just stick something in, use protection. If you want to use an unknown public charge, there are USB data blocker adapters you can buy.

You get slow charging (since the devices can't negotiate), but it's better than an infection.

[–] critical@reddthat.com 6 points 10 months ago (1 children)

How would you get an infection if you have debugging off and the connection set to Charging Only?

[–] Broodjefissa@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

Is this a reference to condoms? /s

[–] KpntAutismus@lemmy.world 15 points 10 months ago

Trustmaster T300

[–] tacofox@lemm.ee 13 points 10 months ago (2 children)

🙄 so stupid….

Everyone knows to drive the bus you need to use the ps/2 port. DUH!

[–] swab148a@lemmynsfw.com 14 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Universal Serial Bus? And it needs a Driver? Someone tell me that computers aren't just run by little Gnomes made of Plasma

[–] Resol@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

They also need some Linux Mints.

[–] Everythingispenguins@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

But those aren't hot swappable so you have to turn the bus off and back on again.

[–] HiddenLayer5@lemmy.ml 13 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Nah they only support game controllers.

[–] Honytawk@lemmy.zip 13 points 10 months ago

And steering wheels.

I saw one at the front of the bus.

[–] EchoCranium@lemmy.zip 11 points 10 months ago

If so, I wanna see what happens if you plug in a usb mouse jiggler.

[–] LoremIpsumGenerator@lemmy.world 9 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Nice try three letter agencies.

[–] Kusimulkku@lemm.ee 15 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

Come on, you know you want to!

[–] RootAccess@lemmynsfw.com 6 points 10 months ago

Don't let the Pigeon drive the fucking bus.

I know you've read the warning thousands of times, but the Pigeon could have a mouse, and he is sneaky as fuck, so... you know what? Fuck this shit man. I'm not being paid to be some bus station security guard. Fuck you bus driver man. Hey Pigeon, I say you should live your dream. I'm not stopping you. Go drive the fuck out of that bus. Some rando bus driver telling my kid to do his job for him? Fuck that. Don't let people take advantage of you - that's what we should be telling our kids. This world is going to hell.

[–] MrSilkworm@lemmy.world 5 points 10 months ago

Probably yes but you'll have to set min DPI :p

[–] Resol@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

I'm plugging in a keyboard so I can type my destination in. That would be way faster than buying a plane ticket and visa.

Oh wait, that's a bad idea because I might accidentally turn the plane into a kamikaze drone. Don't do terrorism, kids.

[–] Linkerbaan@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

It needs to support xinput

[–] cley_faye@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

You're the driver now.

[–] Hux@lemmy.ml 3 points 10 months ago

No, not a mouse. But if you plugged a pigeon into that thing—Hello!

[–] MacNCheezus@lemmy.today 1 points 10 months ago

Only one way to find out…
