Surely the first two weeks is a grace period right? Like, it doesn't really count until Jan 15th?

6 month grace period. By then it's almost the end of the year so you get some slack as well.
This is the way.
I definitely like your thinking.
Don’t listen to them. The year is a write off. Take the opportunity to start drinking before 9am, binge eat, stop talking to family and friends and start calling in sick to experiment with drugs. You’ve got nothing left to lose
The romans started their year in March, maybe they were on to something.
That would explain having to "beware the ides of March", which is mid-March. Sounds like they too had a 2 week grace period.
I've always thought early spring would make much more sense than middle of winter.
In New Orleans, new year's day is Ash Wednesday. Nothing from Jan 1st until Valentine's day counts this year!

Yeah, surely 2020 part 6 will finally get better, isn't that a famous saying that the sixth time's the charm? :-P
Best to get it out of the way early.
The sad realization that 2020 was your year.
I did have most of my now career growth that year.
