Italy seems like a such lost cause tbh. Every move that makes global news seems so terribly antiquated from banning lab meat to protect dying markets to ignoring global warming because that might require real effort to sort.

It is, but to be fair Italy was very advanced when it comes to labour rights and such, but TBF it was also victim of great external pressures to regress. CIA spent a lot of money, even sponsoring terrorists attacks and failed fascist coups, to move Italy back to fascist, because at some point it had the biggest communist party in Europe and extremely strong social democratic parties.

I really don't get the direction of the country tbh. Italy was known world wide for quality engineering in almost every area but for some reason they just ignore digital market. It's almost like the country has stopped for whatever reason.

Berlusconi happened... Berlusconi is the tip of a reactionary cultural iceberg that completely ruined the country, and he is the perfect summary of everything that went wrong

I reckon a whole lot of us should gather in the forests of Germany, once we get enough people we can march down together and let them know what for.

Italy didn't exist until the 19th century. Are you saying the whole italian peninsula was a lost cause? Did you forget about the Renaissance?

Italian media is a piece of shit. Some evenings I wonder why my parents are watching toxic stuff... But then it's just the news of the tax-funded national media. There's literally discussion shows about vaccines vs no-vax, or about if gay people should have rights.

And don't get me started about Mediaset.

"Inactivist", that's a term that really captures the spirit of this kind of non-denial denial.

So this is episode 2billion of the gardian world beloved series "Italians can't do X, y or z". Things that we either know perfectly how to do or we know that would not work for that specific instance because we already tried.

This case fell perfectly in the former, our news do not want to report about heath wave problems and risks not because we deny them (it is kinda hard to deny being roasted) but because they have talked about it. A Lot. And since forever. To the point we have ancient jokes about it. We don't need to be reminded that water scarcity hits our agriculture or not go out at midday like mad dogs or englishmen. We know. And realistically common people cannot do much, except suffer. But the fact that now there is Mediterranean temperature in the baltic? Well that is actually news, and pretty scary.

Tl; Dr; the guardian reports on parallel italy. Again.

Sounds like the media in any right-wing government.
