What did you do well this week that made you smile.

This thread is for the little wins that didn't get their own post.

Let's all pat each other on the back.

I soldered a couple of pipes for a shower and they actually hold water. Long may that continue.

I wrote the first blog post for my personal website in 6 months

Nice! Ive tried to set one up so many times, but I never really know what I'm trying to get out of it haha.

[–] Mex 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yeah I use it to document things I have made or learnt but it's hard to be motified to do it.

[–] tkc 1 points 1 year ago

Absolutely! It can feel a bit like revising haha. It's definitely a good way to consolidate your knowledge though.

Dried some towels outside on the line between showers and didn't lose any off the line to the wind.

Ah, I tried that but two shirts ended up on the lawn and it rained on everything. Hard. I don't normally put my coat on to get the washing in! I did successfully mow the lawn before it rained though, so there's that.

It's such a gamble recently. I put a wash out to dry the other day and left to walk the dog. 5 mins away from hom3 and it starting chucking it down, so I ran home to bring it in and it stopped just as I brought the last in....

Last year I completed couch to 5k during spring and was regularly running until I stopped in September. Not sure why I did.

I've been meaning to start again just couldn't get started. Today something changed and I went out thinking I could carry on where I left off. Body said no.

Downloaded the C25K and completed week one, run one. Starting from scratch again but I've finally started.

Nice one. Who's your favourite narrator on that?

[–] UKFilmNerd 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I've listened to all the samples again and I still think Jo Whiley is the best. I started with Laura yesterday but it just wasn't the same so I'm going to switch back.

[–] david 2 points 1 year ago

Yeah, Jo Wiley for me too. Positivity, reality, relatability. I can't take some athlete telling me I did a good job for doing tiny amounts of running by their standards.

Nice work, it's so hard to start

[–] UKFilmNerd 2 points 1 year ago

I know. I've been meaning to start again for months while the weather has been good.

[–] tkc 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Well done mate! First step is the hardest.

Attached a blind to a window first time.

[–] david 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

But did you put the controls on the left hand side?

[–] Emperor 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Ah, you may have to explain that one to me - I need to order some blinds next week and so was wondering what side would be best and had settled on right but nkw fear this may be a blinds faux pas as it's been a while since I put any up.

[–] david 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

A guy who puts blinds up for a living said they should always go on the left, like the hot is on the left and the cold is on the right. People might not know the rule, but it makes it easier if it fits with their muscle memory, even if not.

[–] Emperor 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That suggests to me an opportunity to mess with the blind installers.

[–] david 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

How many blinds installers are you expecting to come round?

[–] Emperor 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Well more than one as it's a very long blind.

[–] david 2 points 1 year ago

I enjoyed your comment very much indeed, thank you.

After starting !gamebooks@feddit.uk I have started hunting out my old books which are, presumably, in a box in the garage awaiting unpacking after last year's move. I have found the maps I made for some of the Fighting Fantasy books as well as my attempts to write my own, which made me smile - it was a doomed effort doing it in notebooks as opposed ti some kind of card system (or however it was done back in the day) but I gave it my best shot and persisted far longer than was sensible. I also found maps I created, I think of the setting, and I did them as contour maps for reasons that elude me other than I like a good contour map. I am looking forward to perusing this all and trying to figure out what my young self was thinking.

[–] tkc 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Ah that's so cool! Do you think there's usable stuff in there?

[–] Emperor 1 points 1 year ago

Oh crumbs no, I was 11 or 12. It's the naive enthusiasm that tickles me. I'd probably done a couple of Fighting Fantasy gamebooks at the point and just thought I should crack on and make my own. With today's technology I'd probably have made decent headway but it still wouldn't have been objectively good but that's not the important thing.
