Solar panels will obviously not work well in all houses, but where they do there should be sufficient incentives to add them. Large scale use of dedicated house batteries or EVs to time-shift energy draw from the grid would also make the whole system much more efficient.

Just a day or two ago we were doomed to austerity by Government debt interest payments. Today crisis has been averted. Got it!

I’ve said this before and I say it again, without suggesting any particular course of action. When things are securely tied to or wrapped in a heavy object with negative buoyancy, they do sink rather fast to the bottom of the sea and stay there. Examples of such objects include battleship chains and concrete boots.

I think this is a great idea! Perhaps he could move his whole company, its beers and himself in the process.

I agree, and add such statistical analysis needs to be applied in a specific domain leveraging deep domain knowledge. Then and only then can these techniques deliver substantial benefits.

General AI, just stop with that nonsense!

Each technology hype-cycle is more boring than the previous one, and clueless business “leaders” and politicians predictably falling for it more depressing. It is really hard not to become utterly cynical.

Meanwhile there would be lots of productive uses for machine learning techniques when properly applied in a domain to assist human experts. Often used example is identifying anomalies in x-rays. These techniques are incredibly powerful in pattern recognition, which could be used to good effect in countless domains.

Oh well, better luck next time.

…A Southern man don’t need him around, anyhow

Well, I hope Neil Young will remember…

Thank you for keeping feddit.uk going. Ronnie, Myles and I wish you and yours Merry Christmas.

There is quite a bit more than just the cooling system in the picture. Coax cables take control signals from room temperature to the quantum processor and readout signals back. The signal paths include attenuation, filtering and amplification in various stages. The processor itself is in a magnetic shield, which is the grey cylinder at the bottom.

I’m in no way suggesting anything, nor encouraging or endorsing any particular course of action, but I do note that when things are securely tied to or wrapped in a heavy object with negative buoyancy, they do sink rather fast to the bottom of the sea and stay there. Examples of such things include battleship chains and concrete boots.

I did not have this particular one in my “Nigel does or says stupid shit” bingo card.

I just played American Idiot and The Wall from start to finish. For me, both are absolute masterpieces. I wouldn’t be able to say which is better than the other.

What’s the best concept album for you?

Funnily enough, I was the one driving an Audi at the time.

Shockingly, this was the first time I’ve been to Rock City. Great venue!

Just a little bit excited to see Myles on the stage tonight.

I didn’t think three cars is enough to create a gridlock, but what do I know. Yesterday three very ‘creative’ drivers managed just that right in front of me.

I wish I had a picture to share as it was that special. I don’t, so here is a schematic for your enjoyment, horror, disgust, or perhaps lols as the younglings like to say these days.

“Oh William, you are so funny!” “Darling, do have another piece of cheese.” “Don’t lick the fucking camera lens.”

How can anybody be so far up their arse to think it’s a good idea to push this nonsense out.

I understand the need to investigate this thoroughly. I also appreciate that there are a lot of cheats and liars to shift through in this particular cluster fuck. Still, ten years to investigate is a lot of time.

The Government must ensure that this process is followed to the rightful conclusion. We need to see a bunch of people behind bars for their contribution to the 72 deaths.

The BBC has been on the case yesterday and today, and at least I’m somewhat interested and perhaps even tempted to go see them. But do people care?

What other band, if they got back together, would tempt you?

Looks like PE requirements have gone up a bit, seeming that being an olympian is not sufficient.

Most definitely! But maybe not in the way people would want.

Let me describe an idea I heard from a very innovative person, which I think would be really useful right now in midst of the general election campaign.

The basic idea is to interpret politician’s or basically any talking head’s speech realtime and check the semantics against the Internet. Imagine a banner at the bottom of a TV screen with a line being drawn as the person talks.

If what the person says correlates positively with what can be found in reputable Internet sources, the line goes up and is green. There is evidence they are speaking the truth.

If what the person says correlates negatively with the sources, the line goes down and is red. There is evidence they are lying.

If what the person says does not correlate with the sources, the line is flat and brown, because they are spewing unadulterated bullshit.

I’d pay for this service.
