The final story twist of Star Ocean 3 (Till the End of Time) immediately comes to mind...

[–] Madak@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Ctrl+F "Star Ocean"

Yep, this is the one for me. Didn't just ruin the game, but retroactively ruined the series.

...Now that's impressive!

Tunic, until the game shifted from a souls-like to a puzzle game

[–] Juunlar@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Worst opinion. Tunic is perfect

I really loved Tides of Numenera, but the end twist came out of nowhere, made no sense and pretending it was tying up loose ends when it was just trying to make you feel bad for something you probably never did.

I liked the begging of AC3 when you play as a charismatic character before they switch you to a deadpan one. But what actually ruined it is when you kill your dad and all nuance and dillema leaves the story and just becomes another kill all the bad guys game. Their fall-out doesn't even make sense, why does Connor get angry at Haytham when it was entirely Washington's fault?

Tales of Arise becoming a comic book 2/3 of the way through the game was the biggest buzz killer in gaming for me in the last 5 years

Assassins creed was pretty cool. Even like these ancient artefacts either immense power was fine. But then they got these weird super high tech civilisation alien people or whatever and it just felt so weird afterwards.

Starfield. The Story halfway through went to shit.

Maybe a more niche choice but “Inside”

Incredible atmosphere, puzzle solving, gameplay, art direction, and then …

Went from one of my new favorite games to “I can’t believe I just wasted hours playing for THAT” in seconds.

The stupidest ending I have ever seen in a video game.

I'd say Sekiro... It's a cool game and all, but It has like 1 mechanic, which if you master you become a god, but if you don't, you get trashed (deflect). I really like it when a game has multiple ways to approach a situation, and Sekiro is just not it.

(Yeah you can dodge and do some other stuff but in the end it all falls down to deflecting and parrying)

[–] 90bubbel@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

That isnt a twist in the end though, thats how the entire game is

My man buys a sword fighting game and gets mad when he has to sword fight.

I loved Far Cry 5 but hated the ending so much.

[–] Im_A_Sad_Potato@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Most recent experience id say sea of stars. I was fully on board and loving it until theyre was just so much going on, and it felt like none of it was really elaborated on. Otherwise an amazingly beautiful and fun gaming experience.

Danganronpa V3 was the one that stuck with me the most. They built up a new and unique protagonist that brought something different to the table…

!And then killed her immediately. Not just killed, but executed by hanging for eight hours, forced to play a giant piano with her dangling body until the lid shuts and crushes her, all while rocks are being thrown at her. She was then replaced with a milquetoast emo detective in her place. All of this is in the opening chapter.

The worst part? She wasn’t even guilty of the murder she was executed for, which goes against everything the series had established up until that point (you vote to execute the correct killer and only they die, you vote wrong and everyone dies). They try to hand wave it away with some contrived BS, but the damage was done. That intro segment made me put the game down for a while, but that ending made sure I never played it again!<

Fallout 4. I was having a blast until I realised all the quests were the same just with a different lore reason tied to it. Always came down to "get this item for me and bring it back"

Enslaved: Odissey to the west. I remember enjoying the game a lot. Awesome worldbuilding. But the ending, the game just stopped. The ending was not satisfying at all.

Dragon quest builders 2.

They totally shoe-horned in a betrayal arch that completely railroaded the game and the feel the story had up until that point.

[–] Spartan2842@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

God of War Ragnarok playing as Atreus. An unwelcome change of pace that was a slog. And they make you do it a few times. This segments are what keep me from replaying the game.

[–] OfficerSnickerz@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Crysis. The beginning was awesome. The graphics, the weapons, abilities... Flying soldiers ftw!

But then, the alien shit started. Was so bad that I started the game from the beginning over and over just to experience the 'good' part
