I was pretty disappointed with Starfield, I had high expectations for it, but I think my most disappointing gane is P5 Tactica. I love Persona 5, I love tactics games, I don't like Tactica at all. I didn't think the Persona 5 well would ever run dry for me, but apparently it has.

EASILY Redfall

Arkane Studios went from a GOTY contender in DeathLoop to one of the most soulless and incompetent looter-shooters I’ve played in recent memory

Honourable mention goes to AEW: Fight Forever, which would have easily taken the top spot for me if it’s wasn’t for the fact that Redfall was made by Arkane Studios

100000000% Starfield.

I WANT to have a Skyrim / Fallout / Mass Effect style of game with 2023 gen technology

Can you imagine, just imagine.. What if Skyrim released today

Guess what? Nothing changes other than "SIXTEEN TIMES THE DETAILS"

Baldur’s gate 3

[–] Mainbutter@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Gollum... I was hoping for a GOTY level stealth action game that was equal parts visual treat and LOTR storytelling tie-in to the other media that exists.

Instead, the game was acknowledged to be so bad that there were refunds and sincere apologies for the failure.

[–] Dolly912@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Probably tears of the kingdom for me. I mean I wasn’t really disappointed I was just a little bummed that it was so structurally similar to breath of the wilds story. I was looking forward for a lot of Gannon scenes and different puzzles (no more shrines koroks ect.)

Still the gameplay is amazing and one of the funnest games I just have a lot of mixed feelings about it I guess

[–] Cheap-Double6844@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Totally agree with you. I spent £54 on it for the steam deck I have played 3.4 hours and honestly I was just so bored. There must of been about 30 minutes of actual gameplay we I could do something not just stand in the exact same spot and talk to people

[–] DrScience-PhD@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

all I wanted (and rightfully expected) from Starfield was a slight, minor, improvement in their melee combat. I didn't expect they'd go backwards. I expected the minimum and was let down.

Baldur's Gate 3. I hesitate to call it a game from this year since it was released in 2020 but since everyone else seems to be comfortable with the title the combat was horrible, the game was buggy as heck from mid act 2 on and the story felt super flat almost like it was written by AI for most of it. Just a very unpleasant experience all around.

I play Zero Dawn, Odyssey, Origins, Fallout 4, and the ME triliogy on repeat every yr. Nothing has beaten any of them yet.

Cities Skylines 2

[–] Rainy-The-Griff@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Redfall was a disaster...

Forspoken was incredibly bland and boring, its was especially disappointing to see a game like that coming from Square Enix. Especially when they also released FF16 this year.

Gollum was... well, honestly that game goes beyond disappointing. That might be the worst mainstream game released since E.T. for the Atari 2600.

Minecraft Legends sucked, but honestly I wasnt too surprised by that.

The Walking Dead Destinies was something that nobody asked for, or wanted. And it's something that shouldn't have been made.

Skull island: Rise of kong is a video game that I literally never heard a single thing about until people started talking about how it's slightly better than Gollum and TWD Destinies.

Starfield is a game that was super hyped up, but with an overwhelming amount of people.voicing their disappointment for the game, and the $70 price tag, I have no interest in the game. I'm sure it's probably a fine game, and maybe I'll get it one day when it's on sale.

2023 has been a great year for shitty video games.

I tried StarField, knowing very little about it. Almost right off the bat, the characters and dialog options seemed disjointed and poorly timed. I get that it must be hard to create realistic conversation trees, but plenty of games have done it perfectly. StarField isn’t the only one I recently quit for the same reason.

[–] Meanteenbirder@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Persona 5 Tactica is simply disappointing because it is mid in every regard. Story, gameplay, difficulty, even the voice acting. That being said, it’s just enough to keep me in and have a good time. Solid 7/10.

Fans were spoiled with Strikers and Q2. Hoping Persona 3 Reload hype is warranted.

[–] DoesntMatter2121@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Zelda sorry to say. More “BotW” wasn’t what I wanted I guess

Cities Skyline 2

I haven't got it yet but the community has been trashing it bad ,and from the streams I have seen its well deserved

and Redfall , a vampire shooter made by the guys from dishonored ,I wouldn't have put it sucking on my bingo card

[–] BaroqueNRoller@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Final Fantasy XVI. I bought a PS5 for that game and it turned out to be so empty, edge lordy, and outright boring for long stretches. And so much of the game seems like it was just copy/pasted from XIV and reskinned.

[–] AlwaysUpvote123@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Damn, these comments reminded me that the gaming year 2023 had not only incredible highs, but also very deep lows.

[–] Darth_Stig@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Im like 100 comments in and no has said Gollum yet? I mean LOTR is what, top 10 largest IP and that garbage came out? There are better free games on my cellphone than that "game" and I didnt even play more than 5 minutes before returning it.

Wanna hear something funny? I was at work awhile back and I saw on our snack section there were some bags of doritos. More specifically, some dorito's bags that had ads on them.

On the Spicy Nacho bag, there was a picture of Doom eternal.

On the Nacho Cheese bag, there was a picture of Starfield.

I literally thought to myself "That accurately describes the games."

Doom eternal: Spicy, Hot, Skill Based, and is quite literally an FPS standard to hold.

Starfield: Boring, uninspired drivel that's bland as fuck.

D4. The most cowardly game ever made. It's better to bad than to be bland. AB took 0 risks trying to expand make what 3 did well, and use the legs of D2.

Instead we got what feels like a proof of concept without any meat. A stat (or affix/suffix/prefix-)system that is really surface level and at the same time needlessly contrived, that's the only risk they took, where the formula those concepts have been robust, usable, expandable and more importantly commonly understood. THAT'S where they changed stuff?! They fixed a problem that hasn't been a problem since the 70's..

Starfield. It’s absolute garbage.

[–] thenomadstarborn@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I think Starfield will improve over time, that said it’s up on my list too.

[–] GunnersnGames@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

For me TOTK but I didn’t play any of the “big” disappointments. I was as hyped as can be for Totk. But it just comes out… incoherent.

[–] Patrickills@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Idk. I had high hopes for every single game that released. But think the only thing that disappointed me was anything that came out as a live service.

I’ve played games like Redfall and Gollum but they didn’t necessarily disappoint me. They were just laccing

[–] LightofVirtue@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Final Fantasy XVI easily. It starts off so promising and just never lives up to its potential.

Starfield is 100% the most disappointing game. Not just of this year, but of this decade.

[–] Lumpiis@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Assassins creed mirage. Empty and a poor story

[–] KingParrotBeard@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I spent a lot of time in Starfield upgrading the Outpost Engineering and crafting of spacesuits and weapons etc. I'm deep into the crafting side of all of it, heaps of storage for minerals and components, freighter ships bringing in minerals and gas from other planet's.

None of it matters. I can find all the shit I need to progress through the game AND STORY without doing anything in crafting, it's baffling why they put crafting in at all! I assumed crafting would be a major piece in the game so I hit it early, but it's a complete waste of time.

My base looks like a industrial container ship yard.

[–] lordfoull@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Diablo IV scaling killed it for me.

[–] dragoonjustice@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Starfield is like the knockoff version of Star Citizen.

[–] Gingerbread0596@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Starfield, Redfall & Payday 3 are all disappointing. I was so pumped for Starfield but it just seemed so bland and so much stinking dialogue. Redfall was glitchy mess and Payday 3 idk what even happened there. I was so excited for it too 😭

[–] ProffessorYellow@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago
[–] Taztwin1@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, which is probably my fault since I was hoping for it to feel like Nioh 2, which is favorite game from Team Ninja. Can’t wait for Nioh 3.

[–] AngryInternetMobGuy@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Starfield is weird to dogpile on for me because I sank 100 hours in and had my fun but I recognize its downsides. I think the game will age well over time with updates, mods and such.

[–] mercer3333@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I don't see counter-strike 2 on here

I personally have loved the updates since release and it's getting better and better, but it was pretty disappointing.

I get they released it as a base game to outsource a more rapid path to patches by having players report what's wrong and valve can quickly address it, but man oh man.

You can see it reflected (the disappointment) in the skins market from the day cs2 was announced to now.

Huge price increase, to a crater of all hype going away.

What's crazy is even in cs2's current state, my personal opinion is, it's already almost at par with csgo. Another 5 years of fixes and tweaks will easily surpass csgo.

[–] redpandaeater@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

For me I have to say Kerbal Space Program 2. Admittedly it's technically early access, but that was after already being delayed for years. Was a game I was massively looking forward to and it very quickly turned into a game I'm doubting if I'll ever buy. The original game is absolutely amazing but has some flaws. The sequel kept those flaws and somehow managed to basically make everything else worse too, or at least worse than a properly modded KSP1.

[–] xanarchycampx@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Starfield was definitely disappointing, based on high expectations, but I generally enjoyed my time with it. Then Forza Motorsport game along…. Gotta go with that.

[–] overlying_idea@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

For me Fire Emblem Engage. It was like the developers way of saying, ‘we have no idea what made three houses successful but here have this’. Terrible story, character design, nothing that made Three Houses unique.
