Series X|S looking like it could be the last generation of Xbox hardware before they pivot to being a publisher instead of a platform.

How’s this a change in strategy? This was literally their wish when they launched the service. Sony and Nintendo gave them the finger.

[–] EndTimesPreacher24@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Fuck Microsoft. I don't want your fucking game pass. I want to own or at least have an individual license for the game while not supporting shit companies. No thank you.

[–] holaprobando123@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I don't see this happening unless Microsoft leave the console market.

Which, honestly, I think they should. They've never been more than comfortably third and people outside the US never cared much about it. Their exclusives are shit and have been for ages, and I strongly suspect the Red Ring of Death had something to do with the 360 being the best selling Xbox console.

[–] MobaBobaDoba@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Microsoft needs to worry about making more appealing exclusives and treating their legacy series better instead of constantly expanding

[–] SD4613@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

this mofo was also the one who hinted at Zenimax games being multiplatform btw

[–] DarkIegend16@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Of course, quite non-news really. Why would you as a business want to limit your subscription accessibility?

[–] kb_kfc@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Steam Deck!

Bruh game pass on PlayStation would be awesome

[–] DA-ZACHYZACHY@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I just don't see how this business model works. For the price of 2 games you get access to hundreds.

It's all nice and shiny now but someone's getting fucked here. Gaming is going down the path of movies, and that's scary.

[–] RadRhubarb00@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Seems Microsoft truly doesn't care about exclusives and just want all of their stuff on everything. I would think they would want to keep gamepass to themselves to get people to buy and xbox and join their ecosystem but who am I to say lol.

[–] TheGamerHelper@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They’re just wanting more money to released unfinished games.

[–] anonymouswan1@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I just unsubbed from gamepass for the first time since I started using it almost 2 years ago. The games they were adding were almost all shit indie titles, or old multiplayer games that aren't nearly as popular as they were on release. I had high hopes for gamepass, but the library hasn't grown like I expected it to.

[–] Endlesswinter98@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Getting it on ninetedo would be cool, more realistic than Sony tbh.

[–] themangastand@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

their games suck, so they know if they put their garbage on everything the 15 a month is at the very least a good deal and people will buy into it more then their shitty games

[–] WineSoda@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Then they need to STOP all the gamepass scams going on. They don't care. I won't even crossplay with Xbox users.

[–] Justicescooby@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I would love for the upcoming Switch hardware to have GamePass support. Will it happen? probably not lol.

[–] somesthetic@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I would love if Sony allowed Microsoft to have a version of Gamepass on Playstation that was just the first party games and exclusives.

Sony would be able to profit off games that are never coming to their console, and I wouldn't have to buy a whole new console to play a handful of games.

[–] theophanesthegreek@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

How about adding some regions first because its still not available in my country

[–] ajm53092@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Of course they want this. They lost the hardware race, so there is no way to grow subscribers unless they allow the sub on more devices/platforms.

[–] strongr_togethr@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Wouldn't mind it on Playstation as a lot of the games on there are already on PS anyways. Being able to play halo on Playstation would be insane lol

[–] Lo_jak@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Microsoft don't want to be in the hardware market. They've been signalling this for a while now, imo they want to become like Valve. I think this would be a huge mistake, and make their fuck ups with the xbox one look like a little hiccup in comparison.

Honestly not too sure how likely PlayStation and Nintendo would be interest in doing this unless they get a big piece of the pie. But also makes less sense for Microsoft if they are not making a decent margin on it as well. Personal I think being independent of console is a smart strategy, I just think it's unlikely for them to have a satisfactory deal on other platforms that have there own services and want probably a big chunk of the pie to host such services.

In Microsoft's shoes I think supporting steam deck via there own store is a good way to go. Then make that a platform to target along with Xbox and windows.

Microsoft really doesn't know what to do with Xbox. Why have a console at this point.

[–] LordCamelslayer@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I mean, that's the best case scenario for them. They can't compete with Sony or Nintendo in the console market, but Game Pass is leagues better than its competition. It's their best means to stay relevant in the gaming industry.

Unfortunately, I can't see either Nintendo or Sony agreeing to it without a hefty chunk of the profits.

[–] Guydo1984@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

The only thing I could see happen in the future is Microsoft becoming a publisher and releasing their games on all platforms. That way, Sony will get a cut for every game sold and Microsoft will sell significantly more games. Win win for both sides.

Like others have said, GamePass on PlayStation doesn't make sense from Sony's perspective.

[–] darrenmt10@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Fuck Microsoft

[–] Not-A-Straight-Cat@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

and people think steam is a monopoly

[–] herd-u-liek-mudkips@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

"Every screen that can play games" huh? How about the Steam Deck?

[–] HoldMyPitchfork@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

They already have some steam deck verified games

[–] Jasonmancer@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

As a PS user, yes please, GP is an amazing deal.

Then again, if it does come to PS, I'll keep my hope low, Sony been treating the Asian market like shit anyway.

[–] TylerBourbon@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

So is Microsoft planning to go on a similar path as SEGA, but via a more streaming access to games?

[–] xxpatrixxx@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I love hearing people screech. Mainly on Reddit.

[–] mitchanium@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

The mere fact PSN plus membership is a pay to multiplay online 'feature' then we would have to buy both psplus and the game pass.

Imo we should never have to pay to play online with a console.

[–] BrokenSight@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

This is where xbox dies and Microsoft goes full software development

[–] BeenEvery@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I was curious as to why they were doing this and then found from Insider Gaming:

"It was revealed through the numbers that PlayStation 5 has a 62.7% market share amongst the current generation of home consoles, while the Xbox Series X|S boasts a 37.3% share, which represents a sizeable drop year-over-year." (source)

Ouch moment for Xbox/Microsoft.

[–] ilJumperMT@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Huh this is old news....

[–] LeastInsaneKobold@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Game Pass is pretty damn great so can't exactly blame them lol (still salty that most of the PS Now ps3 games can't be directly downloaded)

[–] scomo599@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I’m cool w this I love game pass it’s the reason I bought my series x. I barely touch my ps5 now and got rid of my ps plus premium

[–] mundozeo@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I bet they do, but hardly a chance with their competitors providing their own "pass" service

[–] Moo_Moo_Mr_Cow@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

my main want is for them to put WoW on gamepass for $20 so I can save $5 a month.
