Do you play video games with your spouse? What do you play together? Do you have coop sessions? I want to hear your stories.

My husband (40M) is a PC gamer. I (40F) have recently started playing coop games with him. I've tried playing in the past, but I never get very far due to the intensity in most of them. Recently, we started playing co-op games together so he can help me out while we play, and I can actually enjoy the game. I was just curious what other couples play and if you have any recommendations for us.

PC games we've played in co-op: Splinter Cell, Breakpoint, Green Hell, Astroneer, Grounded, and we just started Icarus. *The only one we truly finished together is SplinterCell and most of Breakpoint.

My wife doesn't play at all, nor does she watch when I play. Our hobbies are almost completely the opposite.

[–] ImOriginalGrubby@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

My wife didn't used to. She always got snippy with me for buying PC upgrades. Decided to save the old parts and build her her own PC. Got her a steam account and a few games I thought she might find interesting, and now she loves it. Even my daughter has gotten into it, and we all play minecraft once in a while

[–] vanilla_disco@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

She has before, but generally no, and that's okay. It's a good thing to have separate interests and space.

[–] Drezhar@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

She doesn't game "with me" because she has some issues with her wrists and she can't play games like it takes two and unravel anymore (relatively fast controller input required) and play at my same pace, but she does game while I game in the same room.

[–] 100percentapplejuice@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Sometimes. I adore single player games but he’s more into multiplayer (Im not). He likes to watch me play though so we get to experience the game together.

[–] TappedIn2111@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

My wife doesn’t like most more or less violent games. But she did watch and show interest in the Horizon games. She knows those that that’s my hobby and an important way for me to decompress.

[–] Muggi@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

My wife tries, but it’s really hard to get her into a game. Pretty much It Takes Two is the only coop game that’s hooked her. She loved Stray as well.

I tried like hell to get he into Stardew Valley, but she had trouble picking up the point on Switch and she soured on it..and once she’s got a bad opinion of something she’s the type it’s virtually impossible to get her to go back.

Fingers crossed they can make another It Takes Two -ish game. I really enjoyed playing together

[–] Suspicious-Gas5382@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Not yet but imma get her into it slowly but surely

[–] AdEmbarrassed1056@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Nope ... Just some kart games in the Switch. Nothing I also enjoy playing unfortunately. I'd love to play together!

[–] jws_shadotak@sh.itjust.works 1 points 9 months ago

I game a lot. Mostly shooters and strategy games. My wife likes stuff like Animal Crossing but she doesn't play a lot.

Sometimes we'll play together. We tried Overcooked and It Takes Two, but didn't stick with them for very long. I keep trying to get her into stuff but she just isn't all that interested.

[–] Djobo666@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

I introduced my wife to Minecraft 8 years ago and she got hooked to it and we played for a while together.

She hasnt tried any other PC games since and still plays Minecraft so I have been playing PC games with my buddies for a while now!

[–] Thin_Chipmunk1524@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

My wife and I play everything together if possible. For cinematic games we just take turns. Beat Jedi Survivor just the other night and we each beat 50% of the last boss passing the controller back and forth.

Co op games are great but cinematic games can work too since they can be so fun to watch. The story and graphics are super fun even as a spectatir for games like the Last of Us, God of War, etc.

We both game, but usually not together. Most of the games where our interests overlap are single-player, so we'll take turns playing and watching each other. If we play something together, it's probably one of our kid's Switch games like Mario Party or Mario Kart, and then I'm a slightly better gamer but she's far more competitive so it isn't a great combination, lol.

[–] Alfred_F@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

My wife always wanted to play videogames as a teen but the parents did not budge and did not buy her a console. Now she's having a renaissance after getting the Platinum for Ghost of Tsushima and beating Wind Waker, several Yakuza, Persona 5, both of the last God of War, both The Last of Us and Elden Ring to name a few.

When she decided to give a shot to Baldur's Gate 3, she insisted on couch co-op and we had an amazing time all the way through.

[–] Rajamic@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

We've done co-op on a few games, like Castle Crashers, Overcooked, Mario Kart, and the like. And played one session of Among Us together. And she practically played Mass Effect trilogy with me, as I would play and then tell her about what happened when we went on walks around the neighborhood.

Mostly we play co-op tabletop with Sentinels of the Multiverse, though.

[–] Castelante@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

My wife will game very infrequently with me, maybe an hour or two every three months. We play almost exclusively co-op games. We played Castle Crashers, Battleblock Theater, and Overcooked together.

[–] Help_Me_Im_Diene@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Yes, she's my raid healer actually

We also do spend a lot of time gaming separately though since we're mostly single player gamers outside of a few cases (MMOs being the big one)

[–] SmokeIll8038@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

My partner doesn't play games—except Stardew Valley. Which by the way she plays it (we play split screen co-op) IS NOT A GAME. :))

[–] sardwondersoup@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Yes, on occasion, however we have very different gaming styles and tend to frustrate the hell out of each other!

He is very organised, spends time organising inventory, planning, if it's an automation or city builder everything he builds is precise.

I am more on the chaotic alignment, I just wanna get in there and start blasting, you know? All my bags are a mess, my cities and builds are a mess, and I get very very bored waiting for him to do his admin in between the action.

We tend to play solo these days, or with like-minded friends at least haha

[–] glyneth@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

We are both gamers but he has more variety in gaming than I do. I often will watch him play some games and advise him on the secrets I see because I’m not focused as he is on getting through an area; I can look around & notice more shit. Lol

[–] GuiltyGlow@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

My wife doesn't really game much. She loved Left for Dead 2, Skyrim, and Assassin's Creed Odyssey, but that's about it.

[–] Marat1012@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

I recommend taking a look at Haven, Don't Starve Together, and Palia.

My girlfriend is from Nigeria and has only played a little old school mario as a kid. She says she wants to try games with me but they're too complicated. She likes button mashing in mortal kombat and she was really into the story of god of war 2018 but didn't wanna try it because it's daunting.

[–] Fabulous_Topic_602@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Awe! Well it's definitely daunting at first, but that's why I like coop. I can take things slower and allow more time to learn because I'm not alone. It also helps to ask questions if I get stuck. It's a lot to keep up with for someone who's not used to playing video games.

We have some family games to play with the kids, but other than that we play different things. We enjoy watching each other play, help out, etc. Like she would help me solve puzzles in Zelda, but she doesn't enjoy playing it herself. She prefers games like animal crossing.

[–] Emotional-Yoghurt-69@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

My husband and I (both in our 40s) used to game together all the time. From Destiny,Borderlands to Call of Duty. We started with TFC waaaayy back. But now as we've gotten older we play different things. I've always been massive RPG/open world fan, while he likes them he gets bored quickly. We no longer game together but he brought a little TV into the bedroom so we can still game "together" but separate. He's replaying Cyberpunk (I tried it at launch and the game broke my console, so I've never touched it since) and I am going back and forth between Like a Dragon Gaiden and Baldur's Gate 3.

[–] CandidJudgement@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Yes. We're both gamers. When we were friends he helped me play Halo 3. It was my first time playing that type of game. He was patience, calm, and sweet throughout our gameplay so that's when I started seeing him in a different light.

Games we've played together so far are (in no particular order): Halo 3, Halo Reach, Halo 5, Halo Infinite, Fallout76, Gears of War (1, 2, and 3), A Way Out, It Takes Two, Portal (1 and 2), Valheim, Phasmophobia, Back for Blood, Left 4 Dead, Sea of Thieves, Apex, Destiny, and a few more I can't currently remember.

[–] DShinobiPirate@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Some games yes.

My wife loves hidden object games if she games. But I got her to play Dont Starve, 7 days to die, takes two, Stardew, Animal Crossing, Dinkum and Sandrock. She liked all of those.

Tried Baldurs Gate 3 with her and she found it boring.

Back to sandrock!

We use to play a ton when we were in our mid 20s living with just our cat. Now with our kids and both working a ton we don't have that time anymore to lounge and game as much. But we are both off this upcoming Friday so we might play something.

[–] DigiQuip@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Stardew Valley is co-op and it’s farming/life sim.

There’s a lot of factory and resource management games that are co-op and not intense. I personally recommend Satisfactory.

If you’re looking for some combat without stress, Elder Scrolls Online is very co-op friendly.

[–] onebowlwonder@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Me and my wife play alot of games together. I would recommend raft, it's a super fun survival game where you collect trash to make your raft bigger and find clues on where to go. Human fall flat is a goofy af puzzle game but I'd recommend you play with controllers. Portal 2 is a fun puzzle game as well and is super cheap on steam. We have recently been playing lethal company but I'd recommend you play that with at least 3 people.

[–] Life-Insect753@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Yes. The dark pictures anthology are some that we play, but we also play "Minecraft" and other survival games like "raft" or "project zomboid". We also take turns watching each other fail in stupid ways on "Hitman". It's good times when we get the chance. "The Forest" was also a good one together.

[–] Fabulous_Topic_602@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

The Forest is definitely on our list. Does Hitman have coop? That'd probably be really fun. We almost downloaded Raft, but we ended up going with Green Hell instead.

No, its not her thing, but she gives me space to play games and thats what matters.

[–] deep_space_rhyme@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Yea. We are in our annual minecraft tekkit modpack obsession. I have elite dangerous to play, but I would rather play minecraft with her

[–] Fabulous_Topic_602@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Awe! That's so sweet!

[–] ultratorrent@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

I thought Unravel Two was a charming co-op game.

[–] JohnsonMachine@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

My wife plays Mario Party Mario Kart and Mario Golf with me on the switch occasionally. Switch games are perfect for people who don’t play games a lot. Usually fairly simple but still entertaining.

[–] g_r_u_b_l_e_t_s@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Been with my girlfriend for close to 20 years. We will play old NES and SNES games together, she doesn’t like modern games.

Our daughter loves The Sims 4, RDR2, and Cyberpunk.

[–] Gundampling@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

The most we played is Overcooked. She’s the head chef, I have the fire extinguisher ready.

Yes, he is also a gamer.

But we play only sometimes together, because we both like to play at our own pace. But since a few years we started to play some games simultaneously, so that we actually can talk about our impressions, our decisions etc.

But there are some classic games we actually play in Coop or VS... like Unreal Tournament 2004, Halo: Combat Evolved or FreeSpace 2 :D

Also we played through some Coop-only games like Operation: Tango, A Way Out, It takes Two or the Army of Two series.

[–] Qmnip0tent@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

No. But we beat “It Takes Too” she enjoyed that game a lot. We played some little big planet together

We take turns playing beat saber

[–] FragileFelicity@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago (4 children)

I met my wife on Dark Souls 2. We play everything together.

No; she would if I asked her to, but she derives no enjoyment from it. Instead, when we decide to both go to our individual hobbies, she reads or crochets and I play or do something else.

[–] jerseydevil51@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

No. She'll play Mario Kart or Mario Party with our son as a family, but that's about it. She doesn't even play mobile games on her phone.

She's expressed some... "charitable" interest in trying Dungeons and Dragons, but we don't have the time or friend group to take advantage of it.

[–] whowanderarenotlost@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

My 18 yr old daughter and I play a lot of CoOp Games

PUBG. The Division 2. Baldur's Gate 3. Strange Brigade. Ghost Recon Wildlands.

[–] solidshakego@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Yes

My ex wife? No she didn't

[–] foxontherox@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

My husband and I used to play WoW together before I kicked the habit. We’ve been getting back into it with BG3, and it’s super fun.

[–] Manos_Of_Fate@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

I’m in a married triad, and the three of us regularly play games together. Minecraft is our most common go-to, and we each enjoy different tasks in the game so we make a pretty solid team.

[–] DJdekutree@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Sometimes. Depends on the game. She loves playing COD and cozy games like Animal Crossing, but also well play coop things together like ninja turtles or for the king. She will not play dark souls or any of the games franchises that I'm into however.
