Have you ever played a game that was absolutely phenomenal, but when you reached the ending, an extremely disappointing scene played out?

Dark Souls 1 definitely did that for me. Really not a big fan of both endings.

Shadowrun on the SNES.

After everything you've been through, fighting through the syndicate, destroying a damn dragon on the top of a skyscraper (with or without rocket launcher!), you just hop in a helicopter and leave the city.

Echoes in my memory as a very, very, very bland ending...

Firewatch, but not in a bad way. It was amazing.

Arkham Knight

Curse of Monkey Island. They ran out of time and budget and it just… ends, with a quick whimper of a cutscene. Wish they’d do a Director’s cut HD remake with the original planned ending.

the last of us 2

Firewatch I felt cheated when I finished that game. Such a shit ending

[–] parolang@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Pac-Man.

I'm kidding, because it doesn't end.

It just keeps going...

[–] katpasniss@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Well technically, it does have a end, not many have reached it tho

[–] craigsmith_nintendo@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Halo 2 ended pretty abruptly.

[–] BinarySecond@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Skyrim. I got to the end and killed Alduin and it was so underwhelming.

Mafia 2 ... "see you in the DLC b*tch!"-ending

[–] Choice_Produce1079@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Honestly to many to count. The only super good ending I’ve seen(and accepted) is uncharted 4, it wraps up nicely drake and Elena get a happy ending and we all might get a 5th game playing as his daughter.

This might be a "hot take" considering it's about to win about 500 GOTY awards, but Baldur's Gate 3. Ending was rushed and underwhelming af.

Firewatch. So much buildup and anticipation around who or what’s been stalking you and the mystery around Brian and possibly meeting Delilah and that’s how they concluded it?

Buddy, im pretty sure that the idea of "You're expecting this grand final boss, and its just some rando old man trying to keep the dying world alive" is the point of Darksouls 1 is that

[–] Outrageous_Water7976@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

The boss fight isn't the issue (Gwyn is actually the saving grace in a rubbish final third of the game) but the final cutscenes are just boring. I think Dark Souls 2 did the same thing better with Aldia's ending.

Whichever Far Cry was in Montana. The bad guy was right all along and you can either let him win or die with him or some shit. It’s absolutely shite and when it got spoiled for me I just dropped the game

[–] Muhvinssiplays@alien.top 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Far Cry 5.
Yeah, I disliked the ending too.
But in general I love that game. It feels alive. The setting is beautiful and perfect.

[–] Constant-Put-6986@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

The game was great but the motivation to carry on once I learned that all my efforts, freeing places and helping everyone in the valley would be for naught, well it just killed it for me

[–] EvilDog77@alien.top 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Kane & Lynch 2. The game just... ends. No epilogue. No nothing.

[–] Zorothegallade@alien.top 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

The game continues but you can't see it because camera guy is dead

[–] Break_so_Bad@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

honestly k&l 2 kinda blew my mind for how stylized it was. 1 was pretty generic outside of the dialogue when bleeding out but 2 was honestly one of the most visually unique and gritty games of that era I have played. Maybe not the best game but such an experience

Fable 2. Get to the big bad and he just dies to a single shot and falls. If you wait and try to listen to his monologue, an npc just gets up and shoots him instead. Fuck you Reaver.

[–] CptNerditude@alien.top 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Honestly feel like a lot more people would have appreciated the subversion of expectations the devs were clearly going for… if not for Reaver. Give the player the time to realize that they can just shoot the monologuing asshole, don’t take that closure away from them by letting an NPC do it if they take too long.

[–] Sajiri@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I was able to appreciate it later. The villain was just an ordinary man after all, not a Hero. But yeah, the Reaver thing just ruined it.

[–] 3lilpiggoz@alien.top 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Heavy Rain on the ps3, but its because i got that glitch where Ethan yells shaun and is stuck on that dialogue forever.

[–] Pumpkin_316@alien.top 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Isn’t that the secret good ending?
