Just thinking about collector’s cups like limited edition Super Bowl memorabilia or whatever.

I realize that I prefer to use them rather than keep them pristine. I have a Chiefs winner shirt an ex gave me and I just wear it despite her saying it’d probably be worth something someday lol

Comic Books, I actually read a lot of them.

Airsoft rifle with shell ejection. Wildly impractical, massively overpriced, ridiculously fun and a real conversation starter.

It's not being produced anymore so it technically is a collectors item.

[–] NutinButNet@hilariouschaos.com 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Which model is that?? I love my gas blowbacks for the realism feel and sound. Had no idea they had any with shell ejection.

I have a gas Kriss Vector blowback. I always wanted one and shelled out $300 for a used one after they were discontinued off eBay. I’ve gotten a lot of other players commenting on it when at the fields.

[–] LouNeko@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Sorry to disappoint but its not a blowback. Its a Tanaka Works M40A1 with a wooden shaft.

Nikon F. Not the most collectible film camera, but i've got the eye level prism, and it's in flawless condition after a good CLA. Use it pretty regularly, it has half a roll of Ektar still left to shoot in it at the moment.

I play my Wii U, the only console that was ever fully mine.

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

Coffee mugs.

I buy a mug on each vacation, and some from the college I went to, and those are my daily drivers

Which reminds me, COViD put me behind schedule (as did the airline that smashed my Florida mug). I need to go on more vacations to keep up with what the dishwasher erases

I have some Star Wars Action Fleet ships that a girlfriend gave me for Christmas almost 30 years ago. They sit on my computer desk and I mess with them, moving landing gear and weapons around, when I'm really bored.

I have no idea what they are worth. Probably not much. Wouldn't care if they were. I like playing with my toys even though I'm almost 50. :D

[–] NutinButNet@hilariouschaos.com 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I hope I’m like you when I’m that age too! Toys are meant for playing with. Don’t forget the sound effects next time! lol

Hell yeah. Getting older doesn't mean you have to lose your youthfulness. It's more a state of mind!

Not really. Only thing that comes to mind is this vintage Stanley tape measure that I always have on my desk to use as reference when researching construction supplies. It's small and has both metric and imperial measurements which is handy.

Apparently it's old enough that I can't even find a picture online of the exact same one but this is quite close. The label is a bit different on mine. No. 1210 is the model and it's made in England in case someone wants to look into it.

EDIT: Just realised that the casing is metal, not plastic. No wonder it still exists today.

My father in law died several years ago,

He made some very strong and very fine liquor, once every year. I still have half a bottle of the good stuff, and now I don't dare to drink it up.

[–] 7uWqKj@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Drink it. Enjoy it. Think of him while enjoying it. One day you’ll be gone too, and someone will pour away what you left behind.

[–] 11111one11111@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

Na. Id agree if it were just a really really expensive bottle but if it's something that is holding that much sentimental value, save it for when your kid graduates or gets married and share it with those you love on an occasion you feel is so important you wish your deceased was with you to celebrate. Itd be really difficult for me to shake the thought that once it's gone, they are then symbolically gone too. That or I'd save it for when I truly was past all notions of grieving. Use it as a closing the back cover of a book kind of symbolism.

That’s a tough one. I’m sure he’d love you to enjoy every last drop, but when it’s gone, it’ll be gone.

I drink all the fancy bourbon I can buy (near MSRP). Never once thought about selling a bottle. Even pour an ounce of them into my infinity bottle (yes, there is/was a few ounces of pappy in there).

The only bottles I didn't open immediately for a sample when I got them home are the ones I got signed in person by Jimmy Russell (Wild Turkey, Rare Breed) and Victoria Butler (Uncle Nearest Master Blend).

Taters can lick my taint.

I have a blanket from my grandparents that is fairly old and we use it on the couch. Better than it sitting in storage imo.

Dangerous …..

My ex-mother-in-law is still pissed off at me from 20 years ago. She had a quilt handmade by her grandmother that had been stored for decades, and she finally decided to take it out and enjoy it, until we visited. I left my dog in the same room, in the crate, reinforced with carabiners, in the middle of the floor with nothing in reach. Yet he somehow scooted the crate over, started pulling the quilt in through the bars, and ate a big hole out of the middle. The dog and I were never welcome again

My Sony cassette Walkman. But maybe not because it doesnt have the original shell.

[–] felixwhynot@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I recently got a Walkman myself and it’s great! Which model do you have?

[–] Sanctus@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

A WM-EX631with a transparent shell and purple accent. I like it, though I wish it clipped to my belt.

[–] 11111one11111@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

I've always worn any sports jersey/hat that got signed by a player. How the fuck is a jersey hanging on my wall useful?!? I have my childhood football cards but that stopped when I got old enough to have to pay for the cards by doing chores. Fuck that. Why would I put that much work into something that's guna sit in a binder on a shelf the rest of my life. To anyone that thinks they want to respond with, "bbbbut it's an investment" shut the fuck up you are an idiot who should give away your own power of attorney for being so dumb. You like to collect cards cuz you like collecting cards, that's awesome and a totally reasonable justification.

Technics sl1200 turntables with Shure white label carts which I think are discontinued.

Seems sad to not use them.

[–] sanguinepar@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Oh man, I would LOVE to have a pair of 1200s or 1210s.
