Their hotdogs are almost the same price.

[–] ColeSloth@discuss.tchncs.de 11 points 3 hours ago

Guess you only got a family of 3.

Wanna know why it's called Five Guys?

Because it takes the salary of five people to pay for one meal.

[–] scytale@lemm.ee 27 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

There’s a Five Guys in my city and whenever I’m reminded of it, I always wonder why I’ve never tried it before. Then I remember I always walk past it after seeing the prices on the menu.

[–] Frozengyro@lemmy.world 23 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

It is good, but not worth the money. They were reasonable back when they first opened in my area. Then it went about 2x the price in a year. And kept going up.

[–] SupraMario@lemmy.world 5 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

Yep, when they had one near my office like 15 years ago, it was almost the same as McDonald's and it was great...then prices have basically quadrupled and they're not worth it at all anymore.

[–] Frozengyro@lemmy.world 3 points 54 minutes ago (1 children)

I suspect they keep the prices low the first year or so to establish a customer base and then start raising them.

[–] Woht24@lemmy.world 1 points 39 minutes ago

Interesting and very unfortunate. I loved Five Guys when I first visited the US and they opened one up in Australia and the prices are so high it's insulting and I've never been.

Sad to hear it's the same in the US now.

Wendy's $5 or $6 meal deals... you get a double stack, nuggies, fries & a drink, and a frosty with each purchase for a year if you get their key tag.

[–] Xanthrax@lemmy.world 7 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago) (1 children)

Key tag?

Edit: oh, it's a 3 dollar keychain.

[–] rickyrigatoni@lemm.ee 2 points 2 hours ago

It's $1 at mine

[–] TomMasz@lemmy.world 12 points 5 hours ago (2 children)

But they give you so many fries!

[–] pikmeir@lemmy.world 10 points 4 hours ago

Not at any of the ones I've been to :( It's more than McDonald's but it's never been a problem to finish them.

[–] Cyth@lemmy.world 9 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago) (1 children)

It varies by location. The one near my house can hardly be bothered to fill the cup. One like an hour away I used to go to for work fills half the freaking bag.

[–] Schmuppes@lemmy.today 5 points 4 hours ago

Putting fries in paper cups is a stupid idea to begin with.

I’m so glad I stopped eating fast food about 15 years ago when I knew it was terrible for me and made me feel like crap afterward. Watching everyone freak out about their exorbitant prices today just makes me feel very satisfied in my decision.

[–] The_Picard_Maneuver@lemmy.world 7 points 5 hours ago

Same here. I stopped eating meat back in the mid 00's too, so there's rarely any reason for me to want fast food anyway.

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Five Guys had crazy prices from the start and it marketed itself as NOT being fast food.

And it always sucked. Premium prices on garbage food.

[–] criitz@reddthat.com 4 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Im gonna stop you there, it's expensive AF but they are one of the best fast food burgers you can get.

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

All fast food burgers suck so "the best fast food burger" is a very low bar...especially when they're charging restaurant prices....and they're not all that fast at making it. 50% higher cost for a 10% better burger, I'll pass.

It's worse than a cheaper burger from a non-chain restaurant. And it's WAY worse than a comparably-priced one.

[–] criitz@reddthat.com 3 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago) (1 children)

I would rather eat a Five Guys burger than most if not any non-chain restaurant burgers as well. They are pretty topnotch. I honestly can't think of a better burger that isn't homemade.

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

Man, I feel sorry for the food situation out there then! I've never lived far from delicious restaurants.

[–] criitz@reddthat.com 1 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago) (1 children)

Ive got plenty of delicious restaurants around haha. I've never been that impressed with a restaurant burger though, TBH. And seriously, FG burgers are damn good. Char grilled high quality beef made to order. What's not to like? You're acting like it's McDonald's quality. Can you show me an example that beats it?

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

In the "fast food" category specifically? I think Culvers and Sonic are both better but I don't really eat red meat much anymore.

[–] sunzu2@thebrainbin.org 8 points 5 hours ago

Went there around covid time... Got shorted on fries and a 30 dollar bill for two...

Bro this is Burger in fries in freedom-land... Gtfo

[–] brucethemoose@lemmy.world 4 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago)

It's terrible, but I guess it depends on the area?

Like, our local Steak and Shakes make far better burgers for nothing. Not to speak of real burger joints everywhere.

But if you're... I dunno, in a burger joint desert and Cracker Barrel is the only other choice, and you're rich, maybe Five Guys is not terrible?

[–] Lexam@lemmy.world 4 points 5 hours ago

Their buns get soggy.

[–] justOnePersistentKbinPlease@fedia.io 2 points 5 hours ago (2 children)

There is a five guys in my city. Tried it at two different locations, given its good reputation.

The single worst burger place. That they have any sort of reputation at all for being good is a stain on the fabric on the concept of restaurants.

[–] CarbonatedPastaSauce@lemmy.world 4 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

The one I used to go to by my home made the best burgers in town. The one I went to twice by my office was gross.

I thought it was a one off but the number of people shitting on them in this thread tells me they have a quality control problem. There are good ones but yeah if I paid what they charged for a mediocre burger I wouldn’t go back either.

[–] criticon@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 hours ago

Same

The one I sometimes go to makes excellent burgers and fill the bag to the top with fries. It's expensive but I don't go there very often (and I hate McDonald's and BKs burgers)

[–] 0laura@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 5 hours ago

I think it just varies a lot from location to location. I went to one in Limassol once and it was great.
