Their cowardice is palpable. If only NASA could run experiments so that we could understand how the concept of fear-based self preservation eliminates any semblance of courage when faced with even the smallest threat to their ill-defined paradigm of manhood.

In a parallel universe where we have a functioning federal government, I’d imagine something like this would be worthy of a grant or two.

You're significantly underestimating how many Chud engineers NASA employs. The agency that was founded by Nazis refugees has always had a shit history on race politics, cinema hagiographies produced decades later notwithstanding.

In a parallel universe where we have a functioning federal government

One of the biggest jokes of the US depiction of the Space Race was how many times we got our asses drubbed by Russians with less money, manpower, and educational resources, simply because our administration was so cartoonishly incompetent. We have an obscenely wealthy federal government that can afford to fuck up on the scale of trillions of dollars and still come out ahead.

Totally normal.

Imagine dreaming to fly to space only to be denied having it because you also cared about the rights of indigenous people.

They're getting ready to colonize ~~Gaza~~ Klandathu. They can't be caring about the indigenous life. /s

Why doesn’t Trump like MSI laptops? I think they’re great for gaming in space

At least make sure to update all graphics to webp while executing hate based updates.

Janet Petro—the first woman to hold the position since its founding 67 years ago—wrote that diversity programs “divided Americans by race, wasted taxpayer dollars, and resulted in shameful discrimination,”

In 2021, when she was the director of Kennedy Space Center, she spoke at length in an interview about the value of diversity, saying “our commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility has been paramount to mission success.”

The turnaround is giving me whiplash.

There's no begrudging following of the rules, it's wholeheartedly embracing the new regime.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 3 points 23 minutes ago (1 children)

DEI is largely about raising the profiles of minority workers in roles and positions that were both vital to mission success and underpaid/underappreciate-for-promotion relative to the whiter career roles.

Petro's following in the grand tradition of Boomer senior leaders by pulling the ladder up behind her now that she's at the top.

You beat me by a minute with that thought! 😆

[–] Empricorn@feddit.nl 2 points 22 minutes ago

This is just another version of pulling the ladder up behind them, no?

[–] Zannsolo@lemmy.world 12 points 7 hours ago

I was told to change gender to sex on the apps I develop. I'm pushing to have it removed all together because it's a field that has no relevance and the order is fucking dumb. My niece is trans saying they don't exist doesn't make them not exist.

[–] hamsterkill@lemmy.sdf.org 24 points 18 hours ago (3 children)

The quote from the email isn't her words. They were given to her (and all agency heads) to send out to their workforce to implement the EO. It should not be taken as "embracing the new regime".

[–] seeking_perhaps@mander.xyz 12 points 9 hours ago

She sent the email. They're her words now.

[–] Tja@programming.dev 22 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

So... "she's just following orders"?

[–] booberry@sh.itjust.works 8 points 9 hours ago

If it quacks like a duck and steps like a goose…

[–] olympicyes@lemmy.world 2 points 10 hours ago

They need to give all interviews in with an Inspector Clouseau accent to let us know they are under duress like the US pilot who was put on TV during the first gulf war.

When it is easy everyone thinks they are Oskar Schindler but when it is hard most people are Hugo Boss.

If you have the funds, please support Internet Archives.

[–] stardust@lemmy.ca 90 points 23 hours ago (6 children)

With internet archive head quarters being in the US what would happen if the administration went after them? Would people from other countries be able to keep the project going?

[–] Petter1@lemm.ee 20 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago) (1 children)

We need to distribute all that data, for the sake of history in the future. Data hoarding and torrenting is a service to humanity.

[–] echodot 8 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Not just data but in important scientific research too. The republicans want to drive the US back to the stone age, because that's when they were last relevant.

[–] Petter1@lemm.ee 2 points 5 hours ago

😇 in my mind, I included those datasets in data

But sure! I agree! We need free and open science, worldwide

People need to understand the art of scientific thinking

I thought those fucking cretins were supposed to be reducing government waste. How is forcing agencies to paint over murals with positive vibes and update their website to remove magic words a good use of their time and money?

because it's not and never was about that and by the time everyone else realises it will be too late to stop it without great effort

[–] CptEnder@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

lmao it's already too late

The best way to understand DOGE is to be aware of what it really means: Department of Government Enshitification. The entire point of it is to generally degrade the quality of government.

[–] Xanthobilly@lemmy.world 12 points 14 hours ago

Because it gives SpaceX an edge over NASA if you delegate menial tasks to PhD level people.
