This is false and we know this from the pandemic.

Once you can’t agree on facts, you can’t be right retrospectively.

Millions of people died, if you google US yearly death rate you see a very obvious spike.

To me that is the smoking gun that the pandemic was in fact very deadly.

I haven’t been able to say I told you so to any anti vaxxer.

It’s not about logic, it’s about outrage, and that’s gonna increase moving forward.

[–] Malek061@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago

Since you believe in facts so much, you must agree that during American hegemony the world has never been more prosperous.

[–] HowManyNimons@lemmy.world 178 points 1 week ago (21 children)

Brexit is still delivering all the "I told you so"s. It's less fun than it sounds.

[–] Grandwolf319@sh.itjust.works 1 points 6 days ago

Yep, even though millions died, we are not saying I told you so cause them idiots doubled down on it and got so obnoxious that the I told you so energy died.

[–] Zorque@lemmy.world 55 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Yeah, people keep saying "This time they'll see!" But, aside from the occasional "leopards ate my face" moment, the same people keep lining up for more of the same.

And much of the consequences are sloughed off on the people who are fighting hardest against it.

They're fucking around, and we end up finding out.

It's been nearly 10 years and we're still getting fucked by it.

[–] JustZ@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

God damn has it been that long?

[–] Kushan@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago

Well it depends on if you count from when we voted for it or when we actually did it.

Yeah there seems to be this palpable expectation on Lemmy that any day now half of the voting public is going to have some realisation and say "oh my god what have we done".

It doesn't work like that though.

Most of the actual retarded things Trump said he would do like the tariffs et cetera will be done in performative way. Done in a way that isn't too disruptive or harmful but still lets him say he stuck it to China.

The more insidious project 2025 stuff isn't applied in real time. How does the media report on the slow corrosion of quality of life and rights to privacy et cetera.

I was in the US for the first trump election and in Britain for Brexit. And now I’m back in the US for this shitshow. It’s like I can’t escape the crazy – it’s following me.

Or maybe it’s all my fault and I’m a bad talisman. I dunno, just please make it stop.

No, it's not going to be "I told you so."

Conservatives will still blame Biden and dems for all the problems.

[–] henfredemars@infosec.pub 44 points 1 week ago (1 children)

We told you the government doesn’t work! Just look how the government we elected doesn’t work.

[–] jballs@sh.itjust.works 34 points 1 week ago (2 children)

That's Conservative Playbook 101. Take something working well, intentionally break it, complain that it's broken and needs to be privatized, rinse and repeat.

Yup, they still deflect to Hillary's emails and shit when you call out new cabinet positions. If we could harness their mental gymnastics into physical energy we'd solve the climate crisis.

[–] Preflight_Tomato@lemm.ee 14 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Over Christmas my mom showed me her new "Lock Her Up!" shirt. It's been almost 10 years since Clinton has been relevant, move on.

Also, there's a lot of people that will say, "don't be mean to them, that never changes their mind!" "talk to them, be empathetic"

Man, anyone suffering after voting for Trump deserves a big "fuck you".

[–] kipo@lemm.ee 20 points 1 week ago

Yeah, I will never forgive a 2024 Trump voter. They know who they voted for, they know who he is. No excuses this time. Trump voters claiming ignorance this time will not be accepted.

[–] themeatbridge@lemmy.world 18 points 1 week ago

Right, there's no satisfaction in pointing out the results of a conservative power grab. Their narcissism makes them immune to introspection or self-awareness.

"You fuckers asked for this so either shut up or move"

Going to be the only thing keeping me going

[–] TransplantedSconie@lemm.ee 48 points 1 week ago (3 children)

I'm buying a bunch of "I did that!" Trump stickers to slap on empty grocery shelves. That's gonna be fun.

[–] Soulg@sh.itjust.works 28 points 1 week ago

Yep those things need to be EVERYWHERE after they had those dumbass Biden ones, and the best part is that this time they'll actually be correct

Bold of you to think it will end in 4 years.

As much as I enjoy saying "I told you so," which is a LOT, I'm really goddamn tired of being proven right so fucking much.

[–] tempest@lemmy.ca 23 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The main issue, which I find with conservative voters a lot, is that unless they are obviously and directly impacted by something they will never notice or link actions and consequences.

[–] absentbird@lemm.ee 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

And even if they are they will redirect it. Was inflation caused by trump printing $7 trillion dollars in one year while forgiving PPP loans made by wealthy businesses? No, it's because Biden passed an infrastructure bill.

I can't imagine the cognitive dissonance these fascists are going to deal with.

[–] COASTER1921@lemmy.ml 12 points 1 week ago

Unfortunately for the majority of them it won't be a problem. He'll perform exactly as desired "owning the libtards" and getting rid of "the immigrants". I wish I had a more optimistic outlook on the next 4yr but frankly we already know how it will go from his last term. At least to an extent.

Climate change wasn’t real enough for half the country, so now everyone has to suffer.

[–] LadyAutumn@lemmy.blahaj.zone 25 points 1 week ago (4 children)

Yeah. Idk how I feel about this gotcha perspective when trans people and undocumented immigrants are facing state violence on a nearly existential level. Like, is this your response to that? To adopt this smug affect and do nothing? Business as usual for you, I suppose.

You'll have to forgive me for taking this post very literally. I am very scared for what is going to happen to my friends and loved ones in the coming weeks.

Four years? In ten years from now, the elections of 2024 will be called the 'Last Elections' and President Musk will arrest people who will call for their return.

$20 eggs is merely part of the 29D chess move that will eventually make eggs free!

Just keep waiting.

It's been like that for the last 2 months.

Silver lining is that we're looking at a clown-show fascist circus instead of an effective fascist takeover.

[–] groet@infosec.pub 16 points 1 week ago (1 children)

This might very well not (yet) be the "burning of the reichstag and declaration of the state of emergency" part of the fashist takeover. Trump is incompetent but if he does to much damage the government might just complety collapse and musk and zuck can enact a monarchy.

I am much more afraid of the people in the second row ready to take over than of trump himself.
