Community rules (click to expand)
1. Follow the site-wide rules
- Instance-wide TOS: https://legal.lemmy.world/tos/
- Lemmy code of conduct: https://join-lemmy.org/docs/code_of_conduct.html
2. Be civil
- Understand the difference between a joke and an insult.
- Do not harrass or attack members of the community for any reason.
- Leave remarks of "peasantry" to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.
- Bigotry will not be tolerated.
- These rules are somewhat loosened when the subject is a public figure. Still, do not attack their person or incite harrassment.
3. Post Linux-related content
- Including Unix and BSD.
- Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux. For example, the poorly made mockery of
sudo
in Windows. - No porn. Even if you watch it on a Linux machine.
4. No recent reposts
- Everybody uses Arch btw, can't quit Vim, and wants to interject for a moment. You can stop now.
Please report posts and comments that break these rules!
Important: never execute code or follow advice that you don't understand or can't verify, especially here. The word of the day is credibility. This is a meme community -- even the most helpful comments might just be shitposts that can damage your system. Be aware, be smart, don't fork-bomb your computer.
You'll have to install it like on the bottom
looks like it snapped. Try:
apt remove snapd
When the compression algorithm goes too far
Computer.tar
Akshyually, that's just archival format, not compression.
Yes. Arch Wiki probably has an article about this exact problem.
Yes, but it can't run flatpaks....only snaps
Great one! (Not just a nice one, a great one even.)
Now get out! Just Get Out!
Does it post?
Instructions unclear. Wrapped laptop around post.
He seemed to manage it just fine, it shows up for me with no issue
Edit: /j
Have you tried turning it off and back on again?
Honestly the internals aren't necessarily damaged even if the case is obliterated, but you'll need a replacement screen, mouse, and keyboard for starters. Highly likely that the damage to the sockets and ports will require removal of parts and idk if it will still post afterwards. The MB is often smaller than the case itself and the bus is often wires in laptops, so it might have survived.
All in all, probably costs more to fix than a new PC.
Most of the laptops I've had open lately have had about the top third be the motherboard and the bottom two-thirds be battery, with maybe some ports and speakers tucked down the side. So I'd expect that last of replacements to include the battery, too.
I might check whether the hard drive survived - a decent M.2 is small, expensive and reusable - and maybe the RAM if it's not soldered in.
That's why you don't put your laptop in your backpocket
puts it in my butt
thumbs up

Oh, I know what that is, that is the computer of a Windows 11 user
Something something Cloudstrike
Its cringing
try to bury it in some rice first
I mean, Linux is pretty flexible. So, I guess yes?
Ergonomic keyboard approach.
looks like you bricked it.
Repeatedly until it stopped screaming.
Gently used laptop
No lowballs Will not respond to "is this available" Price is firm

Well, that's a challenging Linux install.
It will however run Doom as is.
I think you forgot installing the FLATpacks
I'd recommend CrunchBang, but it's no longer developed.
It went crunch but not bang yet
Just poke the battery and it will go bang too.
Enhanced Flavor™
probably, can you run doom on it though?
It's gonna have to be "Linux From Scratch" at this point....starting with the hardware.
As long as internal compoments are not damaged by some reason
Do you by chance live near a pet graveyard built on Native American burial grounds?
