When cigarettes are just a bit too healthy.

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 26 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Looks cool, but I'd for sure burn myself and not look coop if I tried

[–] CoolerOpposide@hexbear.net 3 points 3 months ago

It’d be cool for you to just be anywhere that an American or Israeli flag is being burnt anyway

I pray the day comes I get to light a swisher off either a burning usonian flag or a burning cop car

[–] bbnh69420@hexbear.net 15 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Great to have you on hb comrade, also make sure to light it before inhaling, don’t want the microplastics in your lungs

[–] frauddogg@hexbear.net 12 points 3 months ago (1 children)

While I'm certain there's so much worse in my system just from years of this meatsack being rode hard and smoking out of many an ill-advised improvised piece over my time for more than half my life, the advice is appreciated and taken into account.

[–] bbnh69420@hexbear.net 10 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I’m sure heating up leftovers in a Tupperware is infinitely worse than any flag cheefing, just figured I’d mention it. May we both smoke off a fash flag in our lifetimes

If I had all the bougie shit to really store cigars, bc I do try to stay off the nicotine save for special occasions these days, I absolutely would get some genuine cubans. I've just been smoking swishers bc I grew up dirty south, and those are both cheap and fragrant for repacking lmao

(real talk i'm tempted tho, since lookin them up had me find out they have a rillo form factor...)

[–] Pentacat@hexbear.net 2 points 3 months ago

I feel you. I’m not trying to be a snob. I just look at smoking a Cuban as a slight step up in defiance.

Once I brought back some of the ’rillo Cohibas and gave them as tips to delivery people, cable guy, etc. I felt like a revolutionary, but I expressed it in such a bougie way looking back. At least I shared them with real workers, dammit!

Also: nicotine ran my life for a while. It’s great when special occasions are special nowadays.

I used to go to an ice cream place that stuck fucking usonian flags on some dishes. I ignited every one of them. This was back when you could still smoke in restaurants.

I know the controversy regarding having a burning Israeli flag but if we can have isntrael why not let us have since you can’t actually see the thing that makes it controversial at all

[–] CoolerOpposide@hexbear.net 6 points 3 months ago (2 children)

What’s the reason? Not being argumentative just wondering? And do I resize the original pic in the post or the one I’m using in comments?

[–] AernaLingus@hexbear.net 19 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (2 children)

Hexbear limits the display size to a maximum height of 400 pixels anyway (the source image is 2766 px tall), so anything larger than that just results in wasted bandwidth and longer load times. I'm actually a quality fiend, so in normal circumstances where this was being hosted on Google's servers or w/e it wouldn't matter, and it's fine to have the high quality original if someone wants to refer back to it, but it makes sense to be as gentle on Hexbear's servers as we can when creating emotes that are gonna get loaded all the time.

Ideally, Hexbear/Lemmy would automatically generate smaller images for display, but it currently doesn't do that--I discussed this in another comment.

edit: also I apologize for not just explaining this in my original comment--I didn't want to go full nerd but in retrospect it came off as judging without giving any explanation, and thinking about the image size is not something I would expect most people to think about so I didn't at all have that intention

Some people have never watched the driveway for their parents' car while downloading an 80k porn jpeg over dialup and it shows.

can optionally add ?format=webp for more efficient file size
or ?format=webp&thumbnail=120 to also resize image
(webp maintains decent quality, using thumbnail resize looks low-quality but may be acceptable without having to resize externally and reupload)

I’m really too stupid to understand this. What do I need to do to the picture? Like not trying to fuck with you or anything but I really am technologically inept

Actually I think I got it??? Is it fixed?

[–] miz@hexbear.net 13 points 3 months ago

you're making a lot of good points

[–] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 9 points 3 months ago (2 children)

I don't feel comfortable having a burning star of David as an emote but you can't really see it. I have mixed feelings. Pic does go hard, tho.

[–] bbnh69420@hexbear.net 17 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Thankfully, as you said, it’s invisible in this image. I’ll try and dig up the video of the man lighting his cig on an Iranian rocket, that could also work

[–] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 10 points 3 months ago (1 children)

It's funny that we probably have more nuance and consideration for something being taken the wrong way than the Hasbara trolls "defending Israel" and conflating Israel with Judaism

[–] bbnh69420@hexbear.net 10 points 3 months ago

Because those trolls know they benefit from antisemitism. The more afraid Jews in general are, the more likely they are to flee towards the protection of a fascist ethnostate

[–] CoolerOpposide@hexbear.net 9 points 3 months ago

No need to worry, no Star of David visible just like isntrael

[–] Lussy@hexbear.net 6 points 3 months ago

This is just like the holocaust
