/c/TenFoward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Hating someone off of their race, culture, creed, sexuality, or identity is not remotely acceptable. Mistakes can happen but do your best to respect others.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon' and fuck over our artist friends.

Fun will now commence.

If Mr. B Natural is a Q what does that make Coily the Spring Sprite?

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 3 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Trelaine. Noooooo Enterprise!

I’m once again gonna be that guy and ask Who’s thaaat?

[–] SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 19 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

It's totally cool to be that guy because it means we get to share fun things with you and considering how old this is, it's exciting because we don't often get to share it as new and fresh with other folks. Feel good about being the 'Who's thaaaaaaaat?' guy!

I just wanna watch all the old mst3k and don’t know how to sail, so I ended up watching this silliness through

The best I can do right now is point you to is this big archive of stuff from... archive.org. They've got most of the KTMA years and a bunch of seasons 1-4.

https://archive.org/details/mst-3-k-s-02-e-09-hellcats_202206

Ignore the weird name of the link, it's a big playlist of files. You can also find other "lost episodes" on archive.org by searching something like "mst3k archive.org"

EDIT: For anyone else, you can also find them at Joel's Gizmoplex website, and it looks like you can watch Seasons 1-10 by just making an account.

Oh man, my wife and I thank you!

We started watching MST3K together when we first started dating, but you had to find them on YouTube. Then Netflix had them but the only have the reboot now (which we have finished).

I’ve discovered a trove of Rifftrax on Tubi which we’ve been watching lately, but classic MST3K is still my favourite.

If you can afford it, Joel owns all the rights these days, and you can get access to the high quality full catalog at Joel's home for MST3K since Netflix dropped them and they released Season 13 on their own:

https://www.gizmoplex.com/browse

The Gizmoplex! It's very sad that they weren't able to crowdfund enough for a Season 14, but post-COVID and high inflation, it's been tough for everyone. I feel lucky for the new seasons we got.

Anywho, almost everything is available there, except for a handful that refuse to re-sign the rights to MST3K, for instance Final Sacrifice I think is tied up in rights limbo and you can only watch it through illicit less-than-legal means. Is it cheap? By all means no! It is worth it? By all means yes!

EDIT: Actually it looks like you can watch classic episodes for free as long as you make a Gizmoplex account? I haven't been back to the site lately until now.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 3 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

You can get most of the episodes on the Gizmoplex. They do not have the rights to all of them. However, some of the ones they don't have the rights to are on YouTube, others are on the Internet Archive. A certain Canadian favorite keeps getting copyright strikes but someone inevitably puts it up a few weeks later.

[–] SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

ROWSDOWER!!!

Oh I know, thankfully the Gizmoplex helpfully lists which episodes are missing when you browse by season.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 4 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Not sure if you're interested in joining us on the official MST3K forums... but if you want to, it's a great bunch of smart and funny people and we spend most of the time just joking around. We also have group watches of episodes and group watches of unriffed stuff to then riff on the forums while watching.

Neat, I was unaware this existed, I may cheggit out.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 3 points 21 hours ago

Awesome, I hope you enjoy what you see!

[–] EmpathicVagrant@lemmy.world 4 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

I just screamed loud enough to wake my dead plants. Thank you, Sir Snot

I didn't initially link the Gizmoplex, because I thought it cost money to access old episodes too, but it looks like you might just need to make a Gizmoplex account to get access to old episodes.

https://www.gizmoplex.com/browse

Honestly, it would be the primary place to go for it all, because it's through Joel and his company now that he retains the rights again. So the money is going to good people.

I’m getting the app and supporting the ever-loving shit out of this.

In my hometown there’s an old Crow prop in a club I once frequented, I’m so excited.

[–] wise_pancake@lemmy.ca 4 points 21 hours ago

This is amazing, thank you!

Of course they made that joke. Practically legally obligated to.

[–] SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Kind of like being legally obligated to mention getting "Bikini Killed" in Million Eyes of Sumuru

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 4 points 23 hours ago

Or, "can't we just get Beyond Atlantis?"

[–] CheeryLBottom@lemmy.world 11 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

I spend my weekends watching MST3K and watch Rifftrax when I get a chance

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 8 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Then like I just said to someone else: If you're into it, I invite you to check out the official forums, where a bunch of devoted fans who have become good friends hang out and have fun.

Ok, I'll do that!

"It's the New Zoo Revue..."

"In reel life..."

"There's a big fat drunk guy sleeping on your couch!"

"And in real life..."

"There's a big fat drunk guy sleeping on your couch!"

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 5 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Aw. Grandpa. He was also in Bride of the Monster. He was missing his index finger.

[–] CheeryLBottom@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago

I had noticed it. Way to go Grandpa

One of my favorite MST3k moments is when Jack Perkins (played by Mike) starts hitting on Mr B Natural (played by Bridget). Just watching him clumsily trying to pick up his wife with that Jack Perkins voice, cadence, wig, etc is a delight.

Mike and Bridget as Jake and Mr B Natural

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 9 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Back when they did the Mystery Science Theater Hour, I didn't realize that "Jack Perkins" was actually Mike. I thought he was just some old Jack Perkins lookalike. So I always ignored him or muted him until the episode was on. Sigh.

[–] Bishma@discuss.tchncs.de 12 points 23 hours ago

With broadcast quality and the tiny screens we had back then, that's completely understandable.

I was completely glued to the MSTH episodes. We didn't have Comendy Central in my home town, so before it came out I only got to watch the show when I'd spend the summer with my dad in SoCal.
