Must be so scary living in America you might get shot by the cops because someone else wasn't doing anything wrong.

[–] driving_crooner@lemmy.eco.br 64 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Imagine commuting back from your job, when suddenly you hear shoots around you. You look and see two police officers using your car as cover while they shoot a suspect in a UPS car just two cars in front on you.

[–] miz@hexbear.net 70 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

then UPS thanked them for killing their driver

"Senseless act of violence by whom?"

I was trying to figure out a way to weave this story into my post but couldn't. Being forced to drive in traffic is bad enough without the threat of being filled with lead

[–] Adkml@hexbear.net 50 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I fucking hate new york state. I really don't know how we have a reputation of being a progressive state when the politicians make it a priority that if poor people want to actually have public transportation they better know they're at constant threat of being gunned down by the gestapo.

[–] SacredExcrement@hexbear.net 37 points 3 months ago (1 children)

They have that reputation because they vote liberal, that's it

[–] Adkml@hexbear.net 43 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Yea but everybody in new yprk knows that only dems win in the state so everybody just calls themselves a dem (trump) and as a result we get "liberals" like Eric Adam's who's top priority is siding with cops against people trying to smoke legal pot.

[–] Rojo27@hexbear.net 36 points 3 months ago

Adams himself was a registered Republican for most of his life.

[–] MayoPete@hexbear.net 11 points 3 months ago

And Dem voters are either conservatives or too dumb to see they're being bamboozled over and over again.

[–] Blep@hexbear.net 90 points 3 months ago (3 children)

Imagine shooting someone over $3 in unpaid fares

[–] Adkml@hexbear.net 70 points 3 months ago (3 children)

Literally not firing the gun would have been the fiscally responsible decision.

Wasted $30 in ammo and shot like 6 people to stop somebody from not paying less than $3.

[–] Rom@hexbear.net 50 points 3 months ago (2 children)

While costing the victims thousands of dollars in medical bills.

[–] Rojo27@hexbear.net 30 points 3 months ago

Wonder if any would be tempted to sue the city. If they win that'd be probably be a few million more just to stop a fare dodgerdata-laughing

[–] chungusamonugs@hexbear.net 33 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I know someone who's motorbike got stolen in Atlanta and the cops tracked the lo jack, then initiated a high speed chase that included a helicopter and briefly shut down part of the atlanta airport. They found the bike dumped in a forest near the airport and it ended up totaled out. This was a new bike, but like, an 8k one. When the person asked the cops why they went through all of that for such a cheap bike, they straight-up said they like causing high speed chases and exercising authority.

It's not about the money, it's about them getting to be cruel on your dime and you not having any recourse to stop them. They get off on that.

[–] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 27 points 3 months ago

Cops are the largest gang in the world. And like all gangs, they have to flex their power so nobody tries to take over their territory.

[–] anarchoilluminati@hexbear.net 13 points 3 months ago

This country is so fucking wild.

Literal cowboy brainworm shit.

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 44 points 3 months ago

The cop quickly had to sort their inventory of handguns, this gun is for threatening my ex-wife, this gun is to shoot service workers over my cold burger, ah yes the shoot a black kid in the back for jumping fare handgun.

[–] DefinitelyNotAPhone@hexbear.net 40 points 3 months ago

Can't wait for Adams' next primary opponent to run against him not because cops are shooting people over unpaid subway fares, but because the rounds of ammunition spent in the process were more expensive than the fare and so it's not efficient fascism.

[–] 7bicycles@hexbear.net 81 points 3 months ago (2 children)

this is a mass shooting, going by commonly accepted definition

[–] FunkyStuff@hexbear.net 28 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I wake up

There is another mass shooting

[–] StalinIsMaiWaifu@lemmygrad.ml 14 points 3 months ago

More evidence of how he woke mob ruins America. STAY ASLEEP SHEEPLE

[–] varmint@hexbear.net 13 points 3 months ago

Man commits impromptu mass shooting after being engaged by witnessing fare evasion

[–] corgiwithalaptop@hexbear.net 52 points 3 months ago (1 children)

In evil Soviet North Korea, those who cannot afford the train fare are punished with execution by gunshot.

[–] WaterBowlSlime@lemmygrad.ml 39 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

In authoritarian China, laws are upheld by roaming executioners with a license to kill not only suspects, but bystanders as well

[–] anonochronomus@hexbear.net 50 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Death to Amerikkka. The crimes of this guilty land will never be purged away but with blood.

[–] Rojo27@hexbear.net 48 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I'll give the cop the smallest bit of credit for almost getting rid of another.

[–] FunkyStuff@hexbear.net 44 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Did they not murder the "suspect" who had just jumped over a turnstile?

[–] bigbrowncommie69@hexbear.net 26 points 3 months ago (2 children)

The US is a fucking stereotype/parody of it itself. This is right out of an episode of South Park. Guy is evading fare so you pull out your gun and start shooting? Tf?!

Get out a little notebook and write down a description. Take a phone out and snap a picture. Follow him on the CCTV and have cops waiting for him at the next platform.

I'd make a better police officer than half these dumb ass pigs.

[–] FunkyStuff@hexbear.net 25 points 3 months ago

I think there's no way that's the reason they shot at him, I think it's more likely to be a power trip situation where they literally just wanted to kill someone. There's no world where a cop shoots at someone for jumping a turnstile as an enforcement tactic, that's just attempted murder for the first plausible excuse the pig could identify.

[–] FourteenEyes@hexbear.net 9 points 3 months ago

They claimed he had a knife because he kept his hands in his pockets

[–] invalidusernamelol@hexbear.net 23 points 3 months ago

I think they're in critical condition as well as a bystander

[–] polskilumalo@lemmygrad.ml 43 points 3 months ago (2 children)

God living in America must be scary every single day. Once again, I am thankful as fuck for not having been born there.

[–] Rojo27@hexbear.net 34 points 3 months ago

Mostly a subtle fear anytime I see cops in the subway. And a bit more now that there are some National Guardsmen in some of the bigger stations with their fingers on their automatic rifles.

[–] TheaJo@hexbear.net 27 points 3 months ago (1 children)

new York is a whole new level of bad

[–] DerRedMax@hexbear.net 20 points 3 months ago

TBF They’ve been there since 9/11 if not before.

Always thought it was telling people visiting NYC get off the train and one of the first things they see is a [redacted] with an automatic rifle.

[–] egg1918@hexbear.net 41 points 3 months ago (1 children)

How the fuck are the civilians supposed to pay the medical bills? This would literally end me

[–] invalidusernamelol@hexbear.net 15 points 3 months ago

By suing the City and then not paying when the city only gives you like $5000

[–] WhatDoYouMeanPodcast@hexbear.net 39 points 3 months ago

This shit would make the Hunger Games blush. This is parody levels of spin. This only happens if you're not accountable for your actions.

[–] dkr567@hexbear.net 29 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

What a fucking asshole, but also unsurprising as another former pig and a shit mayor.

[–] huf@hexbear.net 28 points 3 months ago

this is what happens when police dont have swords.

[–] vegeta1@hexbear.net 28 points 3 months ago

You think someone would just do that? You just lie on the internet blob-no-thoughts

[–] Vernon_Tennessee@hexbear.net 2 points 3 months ago

Jesus that's awful. Adams is just a fascist with a D next to his name.
