Former PM said ‘that’s not funny’ when remote-controlled banner was unfurled behind her at event in Suffolk

Last part of the article with a grain of "nottheonion" vibe :

Truss has become vocal on US politics, last month addressing Republican supporters to learn lessons from her brief time in No 10. She insisted: “I’ve learned how powerful the unelected bureaucracy is. You have to win in November … you have to dismantle the leftist state … they are devious, they are ruthless and they are out to get you.”

The former prime minister has previously criticised the Daily Star’s lettuce joke, insisting it was not “particularly funny”, noting in June: “I just think it’s puerile.”

She went on to criticise the British media, claiming it was “known throughout the world for being particularly vociferous” and it is not “particularly deferential to politicians”.

The banner stunt came shortly after Truss voiced her support for Elon Musk, who has claimed the UK has a two-tier policing system. She said on X: “I am appalled by the attacks on free speech in Britain and Europe. We can’t be truly free without free speech. Good for Elon Musk and X for standing up to these bullies.” Musk responded, thanking her for support.

I’ve learned how powerful the unelected bureaucracy is.

You fucking clown, you are the unelected bureaucracy. It was you (unelected) and the people you put in charge of the economy (unelected) who fucked everything up.

It's also a little amusing that what brought her down was ultimately the markets doing their thing. Assets in the free market changing in price is not the work of some unelected bureaucracy, that's capitalism.

Liz Truss was brought down by capitalism, and greedy investors being smarter than her at predicting the future. She just can't say that, or perhaps refuses to believe it.

Capitalism is something that's supposed to be forced on other people, not them.

Aint no way she actually supports trump and musk, thats wild. Her brain already has, but may the rest of her too, rot like the lettuce.

She desperately wants to stay relevant, but doesn’t seem to realise her political career is basically dead.

She literally had her shot at the top job and absolutely, monumentally, historically fucked it.

[–] EnderMB@lemmy.world 12 points 3 months ago

Her political career IS dead. She lost her seat, so is no longer an active politician.

This is all to push her book, which has been widely panned by practically everyone that isn't a brain-dead moron. I genuinely would love to know how many thick cunts are in that room with her, because they are truly up there with Clacton in being the dumbest people in the country.

At least the banner didn't tack on, "and killed the Queen while I was at it."

[–] Luvs2Spuj@lemmy.world 74 points 3 months ago

She could avoid all this unpleasantness by fucking off for good instead of clinging onto relevance. She deserves worse, but I absolutely love this banner.

Way to stick it to that weirdo! That hilarious!

Amazing how someone can be so right but twisted 180 degrees!

Like the US, the UK DOES have a two-tier policing system: the far right riot in the streets of most if not all major cities in England (based on an Islamophobic RUMOR) and get coddled, while the left are brutalized by cops at peaceful protests (against racial discrimination and corporations hastening the demise of the human race) if they even manage to avoid being THROWN IN JAIL FOR SEVERAL YEARS FOR PLANNING A PEACEFUL PROTEST!

It's amazing how the privileged bullies can just pretend that the opposite of reality is true and gain support for it!

Huh, never noticed how similar it sound between Liz Truss Leaves and Lettuce Leaf

[–] MNByChoice@midwest.social 24 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Articles like this need a clear shot of the banner.

The slow-motion drop of that banner makes it all the funnier

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 4 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I thought the sad three claps when she left were particularly hilarious too

[–] negativenull@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Were they applauding her? or applauding her leaving? or applauding the banner?

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 months ago

Definitely applauding her as it started when she got up and left and the claps were just so sad...

I love that she wore a green dress.

The lettuce image and joke arose from the final days of Truss’s premiership, when the Daily Star launched a live stream of a lettuce to see whether Truss’s battle to survive in No 10 could last longer than a 60p iceberg lettuce from Tesco.

Epic.

[–] Siegfried@lemmy.world 13 points 3 months ago (2 children)

The economy? I thought brexit and the morons that voted for it was to blame for that

[–] xmunk@sh.itjust.works 15 points 3 months ago

She specifically enacted an absolutely financially disastrous tax cut that ballooned the national debt for extremely little gain in her extremely brief tenure.

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 6 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I initially read mormons, and wanted to know why they were fucking up the UK

It’s kind of just their bag

[–] wjrii@lemmy.world 12 points 3 months ago

Sounds like she's so toxic even to Tories that she perceives her only political future is on the far right. She's still Liz Truss though, so she won't even be any particular leader in that sphere, just a show pony to trot out as a convert, and maybe to hide in the back office if they actually gain enough power to have to do something administratively complex.

Briefcase wanker!

[–] expatriado@lemmy.world 7 points 3 months ago (1 children)

gotta love some good old British trolling

[–] Etterra@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I don't think it was meant to be funny, genius.

[–] samus12345@lemmy.world 10 points 3 months ago

I thought it was funny.
