Funny I thought these people had an issue with tax dollars being used to pay for certain services they don’t agree with.

I believe that's called "rules for the LGBT, but not for me."

In typical Republican fashion, they apply the rules they like and try to burn down the rules they don't. After all taxpayer money for corporate America and private, Christian education good, money going to "the poors" bad.

This is nothing new. Look up Accelerated Christian Education if you want to see one curriculum.

Deliberately miseducating students is unconscionable.

The coup marches on.

Tell me again how the big scary gays are indoctrinating the children. 🙄

When Arizona passed the legislation that allowed for private school vouchers, the program was projected to cost $65 million in 2024 and $125 million in 2025. But the most recent estimates put that cost at a staggering $940 million per year, more than 1,000 percent of the initial estimate.

The Christofascists won't be satisfied until every school is a 100% Christian-run, 100% taxpayer-funded, stone-age-war-god-ideology fascist brainwashing center.

Don't overlook how much of these schools are hotbeds of graft and corruption. Its quaint to insist this is a religious problem, but it overlooks how much boils down to simple profiteering.

If you actually scratch the surface of a lot of the Christian-pastiche college campuses - your Liberty Us and Bob Jones's - you find campuses that exist to squeeze their student bodies for every last red cent. Yeah, the education is full of climate change denialism, young earth creationism, and phrenology. But even that skirts around how much of it just a big ole MLM, designed to incentivize recruitment and evangelization over any actual education. Like a job at Vector Marketing or Amway, 90% of what you're doing is finding other people to rope into your bad decisions.

The laws governing public schools should apply to any school that receive public funds. Many private schools would quickly crumble given how chaotic and disorganized I've heard they are from teachers that left working in private schools.

Segregation should not be allowed in the education system.

My parents ripped me out of public school and sent me to one of these private religious schools midway through my childhood.

It is pure indoctrination, shame, confusion, and later on in college I also learned how appalling the education was and how far behind everyone else I was.

Would anyone like to donate to me to open a Jedi Academy? We need money for Lightsaber Research.

[–] cultsuperstar@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

The Satanic Temple needs to open private schools and get public funding.

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 months ago

Having worked in school finance in a prior life, I can tell you the biggest problem with money getting redirected to these schools is that they can deny students. So public schools lose funding and have to absorb all of the expensive SPED students.
