G*mers attempting to simulate economy and crashing face first into dialectical materialism is one of my favourite new genres of comedy. Obligatory throwback to chuds crying about communism being overpowered in vicky3 cause you don’t lose half your productive output to landlords and porkies

marx-hi

Edit: it’s not really new if I think about it. Famously simcity fudged parking space needs to make cities that look actually nice. And dwarf fortress had to remove money since it almost immediately deteriorated into abject poverty and immoderation to the majority of the fort

If they really wanted realism they should have the top 10 world powers declare war on you immediately after you do a communism.

[–] Black_Mald_Futures@hexbear.net 44 points 5 months ago (1 children)

They do get a huge relations penalty i think

The whole game is going to be different in 2 weeks though. You'll be able to nationalize industries other countries have invested in building in your states, i bet that'll piss em right off

So this made me think of a new way to do a communism. Build up a huge military and keep it somewhat secret, but be friendly to foreign investors so that they open tons of industry in your country. When you are satisfied, nationalize all these industries. Obviously the country will declare war on you (in game or irl) but because you have a huge military you fight them off and take over their country too! Reverse imperialism.

Probably won't work in Vicky 3. The industries foreign investors would be after would likely just be extractive, and due to slow pop growth (or even decline) in smaller, poorer countries, the interest groups you need to go commie (trade unions, mostly) won't be able to get big enough. IMO this new DLC is largely the devs just throwing up their hands and giving up because they STILL can't get countries to extract oil on their own in the late-game.

Cowards. Leave it in but make an option to remove landlords. See how much more viable cities become without a class of leeches.

Better yet, make gulags a city service you have to build like sewerage treatment plants and garbage dumps.

They spawn little NKVD trucks or mobs of Red Guards (depending on map tile) that go from but building to building getting rid of landlords

great game, don't play it. who knew building your own communist utopia could be so addicting?

I just noticed they released the "Help for Ukraine" DLC in May 2022:

Note:

The developers of this game are against any war. We never wanted to present our political views and we are tolerant of any political opinions. But when bombs start exploding, politics is over. We are strictly against the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Damn, didn't know that Ukraine-Russia history, like the Ukrainian civil conflict, started in 2022. DLC includes the blue and yellow Ukraine flag instead of the era-appropriate Ukrainian SSR flag.

Blech 🤮

Edit: for emphasis. "But when bombs start exploding, politics is over." Just... Just god dammit, people. picard

Trying to figure out the type of person who would make a USSR-themed city-builder but also doesn't understand that wars are by their nature political.

[–] T34_69@hexbear.net 12 points 5 months ago

It's bizarre, but it must have something to do with post-Soviet Slovakia going full NATO after the USSR was destroyed. Whatever the reason, they can kiss my exhaust.

why the fuck does a household need to pay rent AND "the building's upkeep"

I guess it is just like real life

[–] LemonGrease@hexbear.net 34 points 5 months ago

Now do it in real life

Is the game good yet and can you mod it pirated or did their new setup fuck that up?

[–] LENINSGHOSTFACEKILLA@hexbear.net 15 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (1 children)

I'm more concerned with how it runs. I know at launch even people with 4090's were barely hitting 30fps because it was so poorly optimized. If it runs well, I might finally pirate it.

[–] RobnHood@hexbear.net 4 points 5 months ago

If you have an nvidia gpu I hear it runs okayish, but it’s is still pretty shit on amd gpu. The YouTuber “city planner plays” did some testing after the optimization patch was released if you want to look into it further.
