Probably.

I know it's realpolitik but it's still mind-blowing to me that this guy is in the middle of fighting against an aggressive occupation of Ukrainian land with elements of ethnic cleansing, and simultaneously takes every opportunity to align himself with Israel, an occupying force.

As @cyd@lemmy.world says, it's creating real dissonance outside of the West.

To me it's pretty obvious that he will do whatever he needs to to keep getting supplies from the US and Israel's allies and to be honest, what's his alternative? Let Russia kill his whole country?

It's sad because he's doing this while the US withholds supplies.

Also, "I support genocide as long as I get something out of it" is not a good look for a nation that wants sympathy from the world.

Every country supports horrible things if they get something out of it, that's just unfortunately the nature of politics.

He's just looking out for what he cares about, like most scumbags.

Fuck everyone else, right? Lol.

I'd guess that the attack on Israel is probably pretty advantageous from Zelenskyy's standpoint. There's a combined Ukraine and Israel aid bill. Iran attacking Israel probably increases pressure to get things through from an an Israel standpoint.

For countries in the global South, Zelensky's pro-Israel stance looks totally cynical, and justifies a neutral stance in the Ukraine-Russia war.

Democrats have already said they won't consider an Israeli aid bill without a Ukrainian aid bill.

[–] affa@startrek.website 1 points 5 months ago

There’s a combined Ukraine and Israel aid bill.

Wish combining bills like this wasn't possible.

The more he says shit like this, the less I want to support him.

Israel is the terrorist, stop defending them my guy.

[–] FenrirIII@lemmy.world 1 points 5 months ago

So, you're giving Russia, who invaded Ukraine and is murdering thousands of civilians, and Iran, who are sponsoring terrorist groups around the region, a pass because "Israel bad"? They're all doing terrible things, but you can't ignore them because he didn't weigh in on Gaza/Israel. That's some top quality disinformation work.

tbh he’s the only leader doing it that I can understand in this situation, I don’t think Ukraine can afford going against the US on this one

[–] affa@startrek.website 4 points 5 months ago (1 children)

That doesn't make it okay and it never will.

Also, isn't the US withholding support for Ukraine?

[–] anas@lemmy.world -1 points 5 months ago

I agree, it’s not okay, but it’s understandable.

I don’t know enough about US politics to comment about their support or lack thereof.

My guy, I know that for your country to continue to exist you need to agree with everything the US does, but them starting another expensive conquest war isn't great news for you.
